I got mine reserved, too. We should get it on the 14th because obviously we chose for it to be shipped and it clearly stated that it would be delivered on the 14th.

Perhaps you missed it trying to click as fast as possible to get through LOL

Probably LOL i am exhausted and have been trying for 2 hours... HAHA

Went through the whole long deal on the Apple site and it crapped out with a vague (un-Apple-like) error message close to the end. So, frustrated, I went directly to the Verizon site. Surprisingly, it was very easy and everything went through right away with no problems (at least it appeared to). Since I was ordering multiple phones (one black and one white 16GB 4S), transferring numbers, and signing up for a family plan, I think it was easier to do it through the carrier site anyway. Says "Deliver by 10/14/2011" so...fingers crossed! :)

One thing that's weird is the Verizon site never asked me about text messaging, although it did say "Shared Voice and Messaging" (with the family plan), but I had seen other places that text messaging is still an extra change with Verizon, so I'm a little confused about that. Does anyone know if there is text messaging included in the 700 minutes family plan?

EDIT: Woo hoo! Just got email confirmation that the Verizon order (including credit check) went through. And still says 10/14 delivery. So I'm very happy, normally I like ordering though the Apple store, but in this case the Verizon site was super easy and fast. Kudos to them and as a new Verizon customer (you can SUCK IT, AT&T!), that's a good start.

I got my iPhone 4 on launch day, why is am I being told I need to pay $549 for the 32g iphone 4s?

Cause you are not eligible for an upgrade, duh

In Japan, pre-orders started at 16:00 on Friday, i.e., two hours ago.

200 hundred people were reported lined in one softbank store in Tokyo.

So much for "It took them 16 months to give us this???" :)

I hope I'm able to secure one!

In Soviet Russia, iPhone 4S pre-orders YOU!

apple finally took my orders

wow, 2 hours to get my reservation in on apple.com. why doesn't apple and the carriers get it together knowing that loads of people will be ordering the minute it's available online?

very thankful that i was able to get an order in for myself and the wife! can't wait for next friday!

Apparently the upgrade eligibility varies. I have the same story as you. Not eligible til 11/25 but I don't want to take my chances with the Thanksgiving holidays, so I'll just get it now. Spoke to an ATT rep and she said the eligibility for an upgrade is supposed to be anywhere from 15-20 months as opposed to common belief that it's only a year wait.

me also, I'm trying to order a verizon model.

Anyone else whose trying for verizon getting that message?

The lesson for Apple to learn from this is that they cannot rely on their partners to make for a flawless launch. They just don't have the bandwidth to handle the number of customers that Apple drives to them during a launch --- even a supposedly disappointing new model that should have been far better after sixteen months.

I'm sure I will be labeled an iSheep by many for upgrading my 3GS to a 4S since there are just so many Android phones that out-spec the iPhone which is clearly only "mediocre". After all, they also told me my iPad 2 was a "softball upgrade" when I sold my iPad and bought it -- and I have been loving the iPad 2 every since I got it.

I'm interested to see the sales numbers on this launch. Lot's of 3GS and 3G owners are finally upgrading. Being on the "dot release" cycle with Apple also has some benefits since you don't experience the quirks that sometimes come with the redesigned form factor. I think the iPhone 4 antenna out-performs my 3GS, but I am very interested to see how this dynamic switching antenna works out (unless of course there is a software bug in the switching algorithm).

Anyway... I am relieved that they just gave reservations. Every one of these launches needs to be reservation-based. The carriers will never have the capacity for this sort of event.

Took 2 hrs to finally order one. I wanted to use Apple.com but it never worked. Finally got through as a Premier customer on ATT and it went through. Interesting it says theres a 18$ upgrade fee which they added to the price, but it also says it will be on the bill.. and tax is TBD.

Any of you guys know when exactly in November? Argggg :( I can't wait!! I don't know if its any better to spend 40 to 50 bucks more (because of the higher Canadian tax and currency exchange) to get it from Canada?

is it gonna be any different from the unlocked US version? what about Siri?

Apple websiteFAIL, AT&T website partialFAIL

I managed to order from AT&T a black 64GB after repeated failures on the Apple site. It took me 4 attempts on the AT&T, and I had to click though from the iPhone 4S banner ad and not the "upgrade my phones' line in account management.

I have been trying to order a white AT&T 16GB and a black AT&T 16GB for other lines on my family plan, but both the AT&T and Apple websites fail on that one.

All done. All Ordered. Got all the Emails. My iPhone4s is officially paid for and ready to ship. Oh that Thank You page never looked so good!!

So, was your situation one where you got the reservation note at the end and then they sent you a link to complete the carrier specific portion of it?

successfully just preordered 64gig black through at&t's site. i would have rather done it through apple, but at least its complete.

Since when are we not eligible to upgrade when we're going from iPhone to iPhone!?!?

iPhone is reserved

Has any one seen this? I've been trying to pre order since 3 with no luck, and all of a sudden I get a screen that gives me a reservation number and a url to check the status, it says my phone has been reserved and they will email me when I can link back and complete the registration.

Is this Apple stepping in because AT&T dropped the ball again??

Reserved!!!

upgraded on att: 2 lines: 32gb black, 16gb white.

I successfully upgraded 2 lines at the same time through att's site. I switched from firefox over to safari and I cleared cookies and cache.

Logged into myAT&T. Navigated to Upgrade phone under 'wireless.' It asked me which lines i wanted to check for? I selected both check boxes for my 2 lines on the family plan. Then continued on with the ordering process 1 line at a time. There was a warning about my grandfathered unlimited plan, but like others have said, if you scroll down it lets you choose the 'Unlimited for iPhone4S' a little further down the page. Then i moved on to my wife's phone and that gave me a warning about her 2GB data not being compatible. Again a little further down the page there was an option to select '2GB Data for iPhone4S.'

My only concern was our 1000 text message plan for $10/month wasn't listed. So when i call to confirm my unlimited data plan is all set (b/c i don't trust ATT) i'll just confirm we're both grandfathered in on the 1000text/$10mo.

It worked on the first try after clearing the cache.

Good luck!:D

Hey guys! I've been a lurker on MacRumors forums for a while but decided to join.

I ordered the 4S 16Gb in Black successfully on ATT's site about 30 mins ago after being up since 3.

Anyway's, I was also able to SUCCESSFULLY reserve one on Apple's website too before is went down (This was before ATT FINALLY put up their pre-order correctly.

My question is: Will I be able to cancel this reservation with Apple because clearly I don't need to Iphones?

HOPEFULLY SOMEONE WILL ANSWER THIS :D

I'd guess that all you need to do is not confirm your Apple order. There may be a cancel link when you get the e-mail later on.

Possibly. I was able to order one on AT&T website thou. But you need to login to your account first, then go to upgrade line, choose line, choose iPhone, and BAM, iPhone pre-ordered.

So sad. Steve Jobs always thought the user experience was most important, and this is how Apple honors him after his passing - with the WORST launch day experience ever.
