2 hours !@$#^

Finally got mine ordered (64GB in black)! Had to abandon 2 hours' worth of attempts to order through Apple's site and/or app and get mine through AT&T's web site. (That actually worked flawlessly, and I was able to keep unlimited data without a problem.) Got my confirmation email from AT&T right away, too.

But dammit, now it's too late to get any more sleep!

Bit of a fail on Apple's part, I'd say. (AT&T surely played a large role in the continuous errors on the Apple site, but that's a given, isn't it?)

Off to make a HUGE cup of coffee...

Cheers!

Well, I managed to preorder one from verizon but no applecare+ wtf.

Yeah, I think for some reason they can't sell AppleCare contracts, or maybe they just want you to buy their crappy insurance instead. Pretty sure you can just order the AppleCare from Apple separately though, and apply it to the phone.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8J2 Safari/6533.18.5)

AT&T worked great for me as well when Apple's site wouldn't work for me for 2 hours.

Reserved an AT&T 16GB Black 4S.. Hopefully everything goes well.. I didn't have half as much trouble ordering my 3GS in '09

all this waiting for more waiting

big bummer on the unlocked delay. makes no sense to me. I'm only in the US for a few more weeks. Guess I'll have to wait until spring when the unlocked version hopefully hits SE Asia...for an extra hundred bucks . forced to squeeze yet more life out of my crusty ol' 3G.

It only took me two hours from the "now on sale" time and about 100 "we are unable to process your call at this time" messages, and about a dozen-teen "an error occurred when we attempted to process your request via our handy-dandy online form" to finally get Apple to take my order for a brand new Verizon iPhone 4S (yay! The world's greatest cellphone! Now actually capable of making and receiving real live telephone calls! Goodbye AT&T, nice knowin' ya).

I knew this company was going to go straight downhill as soon as Steve died..

Apple's website works AFTER i placed an order on ATT's..

the apple order website is back up.. of course, people will receive their shipments through apple's order before those of us who ordered through AT&T's (ours SHIP the 14th, whereas Apple's will be delivered ~the 14th..)

Thanks a lot for answering but my real question should have been: Is there a way to cancel the reservation? I havent put any information into Apple to actually process to order, it's simply reserved and it said I had to Saturday to enter the rest of the information. Should I just let it expire that way?

Thanks again!

The only thing it's doing is holding an iPhone that could be someone else's. But I have no clue if it can be canceled. I'd just let it expire unless the next email asking to enter your info says you can cancel it. That would be the nice thing to do.

But I'm in the same boat. 2 reserved with apple, one with AT&T. It's overkill, but I'm getting my phone! Even if it takes being an ******. I'm sure everyone else feels the same way... I hope...

AT&T seems to have fixed something because I am able to actually continue with an upgrade. Before all I was getting was a P1234 error. Already have one reserved through Apple site so I guess I'll just wait for that email.

Yes they do, it was at the bottom of the page with your 4S options.

No. At least for me, all they have is the regular old AppleCare for $69, not AppleCare+ for $99. Given the glass back issue, I'd like the accidental coverage. And, you cannot add it later — must be added only at time of purchase. Seems like purchasing directly through the providers comes with some drawbacks. At least as of now.

yessss my order went through just now. it was working on att about 20 mins ago but i didn't complete my purchase after i saw the $52 tax. I waited it out a little longer and fortunately it went through on apple's site and the tax was only $16! att is a bunch of crooks.

1st order went through in the 1st minute Apple opened.

I had to order two more, and finally got those two through now.

All 3 deliver on the 14th thankfully...wonder how long before the deliveries start getting pushed back.

I'm not so sure about that.. My email from AT&T says it will be delivered the 14th.. However, I haven't pre-ordered from AT&T like this before so who knows.

Has ANYONE found a way to pre-order for pickup IN-STORE instead of having it shipped ??!?!?!?!?!

I don't.

Well, that's done

Well, AT&T apparently flipped a switch or something. Just attempted pre-order through Apple and got to the point of checkout. But the Apple/ATT integration seems fine where 30 minutes ago it was jacked up.
Switched over to AT&T and sailed right through their upgrade process. Ended up using AT&T so they wouldn't screw up our family plan doing it through Apple, just in case.

Got both lines on the family plan upgraded and ready to rumble

We are all set!

AppleCare on iPhones

DO NOT buy AppleCare+ on an iPhone. Just pay for it with American Express. It covers loss, breakage, repairs, etc on the same terms that AppleCare+ does, and does it for free. It also doubles the warranty and covers theft if the theft happens in the first 180 days of ownership (check your particular AMEX card for details, of course).

and now that i order was placed with AT&T i just checked my bank account and the payment has been sent so it has been Ordered from trhough thier website glad that its taken care of

Getting some ZZZZ's finally goodnight all and goodluck to the ones who are still trying plus my data plan is also discounted for my FAN

I went to Apple at 5:15 AM EST & went through the entire process without a single delay, but at the end, it just said that it "reserved" a phone for me & that they would contact me via email later to verify my order. I never got a confirmation email of my reservation.

Not having too much faith in the Apple reservation process, I jumped over to AT&T's website & was able to log in & upgrade flawlessly without a single delay. I got an email instantly that told me my phone was scheduled for delivery on October 14th.

BTW...on AT&T, there was no upgrade fee for me, and my company discount was applied to my service plan.

Order Through Sprint

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_5 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8L1 Safari/6533.18.5)

Wow...I can't preorder through Apple if I'm a new Sprint customer....wtf?

That is a little weird, but just go ahead and pre-order through sprints site :)

So since it's died down a bit now, I was checking on AT&T's site and through their website I am required to change my unlimited data plan, whereas Apple allowed me to keep it. Weird. Not that I really care, I barely even reach up to 1GB.
