Has ANYONE found a way to pre-order for pickup IN-STORE instead of having it shipped ??!?!?!?!?!

Mine actually went through on the apple site right when it went up, but it was my wife's phone (2nd line on family plan) and I ultimately decided not to pull the trigger and wait to buy it unlocked instead of paying an upgrade penalty. But apple site worked just fine..
 
FORGOT TO ORDER MY WIFE"S iPHONE 4S?!?!?!

First off, I successfully placed an order on apple.com let me explain.....

I tried from the first minute to order my phone....I have AT&T with 2 lines....mine and my wife's

I spent more than 2 hours to get my iPhone 4S RESERVED :confused:

But after lying down in bed....i remembered......MY WIFE'S WHITE 16GB iPHONE 4S!!!!!!
So i picked up my iPhone 4, went to the apple.com and to my ANGERED SURPRISE.........buying the iPhone 4S using my wife;s number went through PERFECTLY!!! NO HASSLE!!!

I'm kinda mad.(cus mine failed & all i got was a reserve)........but I'm glad, too..my wife's getting her phone......

So technically, we BOTH should get our phones on the 14th.......we'll see
 
finally got ATT's site to show the 4S as an option for me, 64gb White paid for an ordered. but it said it could not guarantee a 10/14 delivery. that probably means at least a 3-4 week schedule if it does not ship next week...

One problem with preordering directly through AT&T is that they don't offer the new accidental coverage that covers drops, etc.: AppleCare+. And, that must be bought at the time of purchase and can't be added later. AT&T doesn't even have it as an option.

Who Says? You can order it directly from Apple long as you order it before Oct 14 you are good!

the apple order website is back up.. of course, people will receive their shipments through apple's order before those of us who ordered through AT&T's (ours SHIP the 14th, whereas Apple's will be delivered ~the 14th..)

If I ordered my 4S from Apple, but ATT gives me a FAN discount, will that discount still be applied to my plan even though it wasn't shown at apple.com?

I'm not so sure about that.. My email from AT&T says it will be delivered the 14th.. However, I haven't pre-ordered from AT&T like this before so who knows.

yeah i ordered through AT&T last time and they shipped it out on the date, not "delivered at my door" on that date. i'm hoping i'm wrong too though guys (don't get me wrong it'd be nice!) but from my experience from ordering through them last time.

Not true. The confirmation on the order I placed through AT&T says that it is scheduled for DELIVERY on the 14th. See my post above.
 
DO NOT buy AppleCare+ on an iPhone. Just pay for it with American Express. It covers loss, breakage, repairs, etc on the same terms that AppleCare+ does, and does it for free. It also doubles the warranty and covers theft if the theft happens in the first 180 days of ownership (check your particular AMEX card for details, of course).

If you are upgrading the line the FAN discount is on, yes. If you are ordering a new line completely, check with your employer to see how to apply the discount to your new account.


You know... I'm not so sure about not being able to purchase AppleCare+ after you buy the phone... Apple has a 30 day return policy, and when I worked there they continually told employees "We aren't beasts, do what's right for the customer."

I'm almost positive this is a lenient policy. As long as you're within those 30 days of course...

If you are upgrading the line the FAN discount is on, yes. If you are ordering a new line completely, check with your employer to see how to apply the discount to your new account.

Yes I'm upgrading my existing discounted line from a non-functioning (as of last weekend) 3G to a 4S!
 
Went through the whole long deal on the Apple site and it crapped out with a vague (un-Apple-like) error message close to the end. So, frustrated, I went directly to the Verizon site. Surprisingly, it was very easy and everything went through right away with no problems (at least it appeared to). Since I was ordering multiple phones (one black and one white 16GB 4S), transferring numbers, and signing up for a family plan, I think it was easier to do it through the carrier site anyway. Says "Deliver by 10/14/2011" so...fingers crossed! :)

One thing that's weird is the Verizon site never asked me about text messaging, although it did say "Shared Voice and Messaging" (with the family plan), but I had seen other places that text messaging is still an extra change with Verizon, so I'm a little confused about that. Does anyone know if there is text messaging included in the 700 minutes family plan?

EDIT: Woo hoo! Just got email confirmation that the Verizon order (including credit check) went through. And still says 10/14 delivery. So I'm very happy, normally I like ordering though the Apple store, but in this case the Verizon site was super easy and fast. Kudos to them and as a new Verizon customer (you can SUCK IT, AT&T!), that's a good start.

Did the same thing ... tried Apple and received vague final page that seemed to suggest I go to the Apple store.

Went to Verizon site, and was able to switch three phones from AT&T to verizon, easily.

There is a section of the Verizon purchase process that defaults to the shared, unlimited messaging plan for $30/month on a family plan, which is what you must have ordered. You can click to see voice and messaging options separately, though.

It took me half a dozen attempts to get onto the checkout screen, which I didn't think was too bad knowing how many first-day-buyers there would be.

It's unlocked, SIM-free, and delivery is said to be "by the 14th".

It's REALLY strange for me. I'm still an AT&T Premier member, and it shows my Data Plan for iPhone with 20% discount......BUT NO MINUTES PLAN. It says I can get my 4S with No Text Messaging, and Unlimited Data for $24 a month TOTAL, or I could choose their other plans like 4GB/month w/Tethering for $36! LOL. I'm not kidding, I checked the agree box, and got to the final info/credit card page where I can Submit Order. I don't have the guts to do it. Something has to be f'd up.

In the past, if you went with what was autoselected (for me a $45 "enterprise data plan") if you were grandfathered unlimited you kept it. I'd suggest calling them at 8am, though. It's worth the wait to be sure you keep your unlimited data, even if the phone doesn't come for a few more days.

AT&T worked great for me as well when Apple's site wouldn't work for me for 2 hours.

Finally got mine ordered (64GB in black)! Had to abandon 2 hours' worth of attempts to order through Apple's site and/or app and get mine through AT&T's web site. (That actually worked flawlessly, and I was able to keep unlimited data without a problem.) Got my confirmation email from AT&T right away, too.

But dammit, now it's too late to get any more sleep!

Bit of a fail on Apple's part, I'd say. (AT&T surely played a large role in the continuous errors on the Apple site, but that's a given, isn't it?)

Off to make a HUGE cup of coffee...

I think all the sites are working now, so "normal" people who are just waking up now and will try during the day should have no issues. :)

With each release it's getting slightly better. It appears the biggest crunch was the first two hours.
 
Yeah ... like some comments here.. I thought people hate iPhone 4S, it was said to be a slight improvement, no redesign .. Apple stock was dropped yada yada yada .. no big screen 4.3", no 4G LTE yada yada ...

And the preorder page still get hammered due to high demand. Wonder why? :D
 
Mine won't let me from apple.com. I got the reservation email, not just waiting. I'll just wait for apple to let me order. Every year it's another story with apple one ordering iPhones. :rolleyes:
 
I got all the way through the order process.... pressed "Place Order Now" and boom... the "white Ooops of Death screen !!"

I checked my order (eventually) and it had actually placed the order... so one unlocked white 16GB 4S on it's way...

BTW, glad you guys 'n' gals in the US are finally getting an unlocked version ! :D
 
So I have ordered by 4S from ATT but had some issue so I thought I would post here:

1. I have a FAN Account and I am upgrading.

2. I ordered a Black 4S 64Gig

3. Went through the order process odd that it asked me to reselect my plans and features. Luckily it offered me my existing minutes plan and unlimited data plan.

4. On to features...No option for my present $15/1500 texting plan. I should able to keep this I thought. Well, I selected the $20 unlimited to get my order in. I figured I would argue it later with ATT.

5. Selected an accessory as all were 50% off on FAN.

6. Went to check out. Put in my address info.

7. Got to the credit card page and when I went to enter my shipping address the "Work phone" field would not accept input. I restarted the order but no go. To resolve, I typed my number into notepad and then copy/pasted it into the field. It worked.

8. Get to the confirmation page....wait where is the texting feature....dam must have made a mistake.

9 Restarted the order, got to the end and still not there.

10. Crap, so I figured that it was not accepting a new choice because it was an upgrade. F'it...I placed the order and again figured I would argue the texting issue later.

Started trying to order at 3:00 AM Est
Systems offline (Apple and ATT) until 5:00 ish AM.
Final order in 5:50 AM EST.

BTW...Apple site refused to process my order.
