Any idea or guess on how much the pages, numbers and keynote apps will cost?

I mean, assuming this thing doesn't get jailbroken...

this guy/girl loves to whine and whine and whine

Just got my Alienware M11x from Fedex while reading this thread and watching the videos. Enjoy your lame iPads.[/QUOTE]

this guy/girl seems to have a major xxxx-on against the ipad. has wayyy too much time on his/her hands posting sometimes 3 times a day to knock a product..honestly dude, how many posts to make the same point??? .usually this site is good for at least a few comments that have some tech backing/know how that is at least as helpful as what we get in our graphics/programming classes, which is the reason we watch it on break at times. maybe, if i'm able to land a good job i can sit in a cubicle, or like my granpa sit in my underwear and hoot from the sidelines, tho i'd much rather be creating..

i probably won't put any movies on the ipad if i get it. i think i'd use it more as a web browser, photo viewer and gaming device.

I'm a fan of older tv shows have about 300 series in Itunes and they will be finding their way. And i'm in the process of ripping and converting Season 1 of the Original Trek in Hi Def 960x720 resolution, they should look glorious on the Ipad's Screen.

If it wasn't so expesive I could see myself buying one and putting it on the end table to surf the web/email while i'm on the couch and then at other times turn it into a digital photo frame...other then that I have no use for it...

The biggest concern I have about this device, ironically enough, is the user experience, especially the ergonomics of ACTUALLY HOLDING AND INTERACTING WITH THE DEVICE.

I think the ergonomics of actually using the device are not going be so good.

Like others have noted, it seems there are not many ways to easily hold the device and interact with it.

Look at these videos very closely.

Most of these videos have a bit of artificiality in them. Notice when they show close-ups of someone holding the iPad in one hand, the device barely moves except for an artificial, small, mechanical, repetitive, mimicking of being actually hand held.

I used to work in the TV commercial production industry, and I can tell you that the iPad in these videos is being artificially suspended by a device from behind while the person pretends to be actually holding the device in the lower left corner with their left hand. (EDIT: Or, it is complete CGI)

I still want an iPad, but I have my concerns.

My iPod touch is driven my my thumbs, which can glide over the entire multitouch area, whether portrait or landscape, while holding the device with 2 hands. Neither me, on anyone else except maybe Lebron James, will be able to "drive" this device easily with their thumbs, like one can do with iPhone/iPod Touch...

Rotation lock is cool.

Typing with both hands in Pages is ridiculous. They should make the texts appear 3D and tilted to adjust the angle when the iPad is laying on a table while you type.

Hopefully the iPad won't be sliding around on its rounded back.

whats with that ladies shoes (on the left). her toes are like coming out of here. looks like she has a few sizes too large shoe.

I noticed that too... As far as I can tell, that's a man on the left, wearing his gf's (on right) shoes and she's wearing his...

I'm not an ad-wizard so I am not sure the rationale for this.

Looks like numbers will be the first app I buy.

I know. They really did a good job with it. Very clean interface. I wonder what will happen if you have over a hundred documents. The only part I don't like is how you navigate to the spreadsheet you want to open. It will be like an iPhone with over 10 screens packed with apps.

Exactly. It's just too damn cumbersome to always have 1 hand occupied with holding the unit. iPhones can get away with that because of their size.

There'll be lots of people with disproportionate arm muscles now :D

Exactly - hence the increasingly hilarious "putting your feet up on the coffee table/your desk" that is at the start of amost all the Guided Tour videos. When you get to the seventh or eighth example it starts to really reinforce that there is a pretty major usability limitation with the iPad.

Take the Numbers video: yeah I'm just going to lie back on the couch with my feet up and....work on a spreadsheet?

Say what you like about Netbooks, but at least you can open them up on a desk and they support the screen...
I really can't see the iPad being useful for any meaningful productivity work (unless you dock it on the keyboard dock - in which case, what is the point?) For the more fun stuff well yes the big screen does look good, but I still think that the small form factor of the iPhone/iPod Touch wins out.

These are great videos. The only one that elicited a 'WTF?' response would be the Videos, because I can't imagine someone sitting down and holding a tablet for 2 hours while watching a movie.

Overall, this looks like a gem of a device, and I will look into picking one up when the 2nd generation is released.

Watching a movie will be a practice in frustration. And people thought shaky camera was bad.
