The Guided Tours Have Convinced Me!!!

I was 90% sure I was gonna get an iPad.

Now I am 100% sure.

Wow!!! That is all I can say. This thing is gonna be HUGE!!!!

But I still have a real hard time swallowing the word "magical"...just rubs me the wrong way. If a genie pops out after being rubbed...well THEN let's talk!

:D

have a look at Print N Share for advanced printing by EuroSmartz - if you need heavy duty printing capabilities (I do not work for them, I just use the app)...

They also have Print (Printing for everyday items)

And there are heaps more apps....

Not to worry - just do your research.

I use Print N' Share, and while it works great, it does require a server application to be running on a desktop or laptop in order for you to print. I think people were hoping to be able to print directly to a printer without a middle-man app if they were on the same WiFi network. Maybe that'll come later.

Anybody else unable to view these videos on Chrome? I'm getting audio only.

I was hoping they would show file downloads in Safari. I could care less about flash but I want to see that you can download different file types in the browser. I was also hoping they would save an attachment in Mail. There are times on my iPhone where I would like to keep a PDF or Doc from mail but since there is no general file storage I have to search for it on the server then redownload it every time I need it.

I would imagine that this functionality is coming in iPhone OS 4.0. It's absurd not to be able to save attachments without jailbreaking. The combination of Attachment Saver and iFile from Cydia has been tremendous on my iPod.

Watching a movie will be a practice in frustration. And people thought shaky camera was bad.

Why? Stick it in the case (or one of numerous 3rd party cases that also supports propping it up in landscape), or in a dock or stand, or sitting on your lap or propped up on an airline tray table. It's no worse than watching a movie on an iPhone, which I've done countless times on airplanes.

The biggest concern I have about this device, ironically enough, is the user experience, especially the ergonomics of ACTUALLY HOLDING AND INTERACTING WITH THE DEVICE

Probably best to stop thinking about these concerns and wait till you can try it out after it is released?

iPhones are less cumbersome. But what's the point of its portability if you have to bring a stand? I'm sure the cases are fine, but it's just trying to solve an inherent problem. We'll see.

It's still an interesting product.

Ah, I forgot about the case.

Better yet, everyone should be skeptical in the face of an unproven product, however compelling it may be. And it is compelling.

You probably are the one. :)

I don't think 16:9 would work as well as 4:3 for any of the other uses aside from video, especially in portrait mode.

Yeah, when the iPad was first announced I was really against the 4:3 aspect and thought it was a terrible decision. I'm starting to change my mind about that though. It clearly would be more awkward to use in portrait mode, which is what Apple envisions as the default mode (for evidence, look at the orientation of the Apple logo on the back). Watching videos is only one of many things people will do on the device, it's really more about the apps, and a 4:3 aspect does just make more sense there. For one thing, a wide aspect makes it very difficult for developers to make a common interface usable in both portrait and landscape. 4:3 is easier to adjust.

This and a few more rumors should get me to Saturday. I am impressed with the iwork stuff and wonder if Apple created them just to show what is possibe and motivate other developers to take it to another level or is it an application that they will continue to develop and support?

I also wonder how sophisticated of a spreadsheet one can create with numbers. The pro formas that I build do not currently look like they will fit within their preloaded templates. Is numbers just like excel?

Case and Keyboard Dock?

Does anyone know if you can use the keyboard dock while the iPad is in the case? I bought the keyboard, but think the case would be nice (and add protection) while watching movies. I'm really looking forward to the 10 hour battery since I take a lot of long flights.

Big missing piece

You can't print documents your create on any of the iWork documents????

Exactly - hence the increasingly hilarious "putting your feet up on the coffee table/your desk" that is at the start of amost all the Guided Tour videos.

Say what you like about Netbooks, but at least you can open them up on a desk and they support the screen...

The optional cover for this device may be the "killer app" people are looking for.

Convenient vertical format web viewing is my killer app.

Ugggg,
I was hoping that godawful home screen layout, with lots and lots of ugly space, was just a prototype screen.

Maybe someone has already mentioned this, but it's funny to me that those who love to hate Apple resort to amplifying the supposed "difficulty" in holding the device--as if this is in some way Apple's fault. No other tablet device is going to be "easier" to hold. They're all going to be big and flat. This is the nature of this style of device and has nothing to do with Apple's design.

Will iBooks view ereader format ebooks? If not can they be converted? Also will apple allow iPad versions of such products as Stanza and fictionwise's ereader? Since they will compete with their store... :apple:

For the first time I am a bit bummed I will not be getting one right away.

Even though I have used an iPhone daily since they first came out, the iPad seems like the coolest device ever made. It's impact on computers and how they are used is going to be changed dramatically because of the iPad.

Hmmm. Doesn't look like iBooks supports bookmarks or notes. It seems like that would be handy for references or school books.

use a pillow, people..

To those who are complaining about holding it flat or arms getting tired or problems with the curved back. Prop the iPad up on a freaking pillow already. Duh! This is not rocket science. People have been holding things they use for thousands of years.

Those who hate Apple? I'm always ragging on Apple products and spent at least $10,000 on Apple stuffs already.

No one in MacRumors Forums isn't a Mac user—or a very very very few people.

My favorite Apple product was the 12 inch PowerBook. The coolest portable ever.
