This! A thousand times this! It's frustrated me for years. I actually somehow have THREE accounts, one basically disused at this point, another that's my App Store account, and a third that's for iCloud. So annoying. If only they would let us merge two accounts for those of us who created a second account in order to move away from our 3rd party email address...
So I have two accounts:
- oldemail@gmail.com
- personalname@me.com
I use oldemail@gmail.com for App Store purchases and iCloud. I use personalname@me.com for email. Would I be able to update oldemail@gmail.com to personalname@me.com so I could have App Store, iCloud, and email all under the one login?
I wish it were so (I have the same thing), but that's not how I'm reading this. I think if you try to change oldemail@gmail.com to personalname@me.com on the first account, it will tell you that personalname@me.com is already in use by a different account. So I have two accounts:

How were you able to change it? I tried and get that same error everyone else is.Cool. I was able to change mine over, but will this affect my music library that was associated with old gmail?
I’m in the same boat and would love to do this. Hoping someone can weigh in about this....I wish it were so (I have the same thing), but that's not how I'm reading this. I hope I'm wrong.
I wonder if Apple is listening to this like they follow many MacRumours posts? So can we take three different Apple ID’s with 3rd party email addresses and consolidate them into one Apple address? That would be an awesome way to finally put all purchases under one account.
Not sure whats wrong, I use an obsolete hotmail account as my Apple ID but when I try to change it to my current @icloud.com email address I get an error saying I cannot have an Apple ID ending with icloud.com..
How were you able to change it? I tried and get that same error everyone else is.

Could be related to the 1st step of the Apple support doc, signing off from all Apple services and devices? At this point am not sure I want to do this..
I want to do the same. Afraid it will screw up my iTunes and app purchases. So I have two accounts:

I tried it from the "manage your Apple ID" page, which is where Apple's support doc tells me to go. It did not work. I continue to get the message "Your Apple ID cannot end in iCloud.com"I just used my laptop, went to iCloud.com > account settings and changed it from there
