To Jump or Not to Jump...

So from all this, it looks like (at least) pre-order capability will be available before the end of the week. Question is, with all the last minute talk about "don't expect the moon" and an even bigger iPad upgrade later this year, is this really the one to grab?

I mean, all I ever cared about or thought was despicably lacking was a front-facing camera. What else could they possibly add (besides a full retina display)?

The big ipad 2 question:

I have no plans on getting an iPad, but I still love these events!
Depending on what's announced I may be swayed, but it would take something pretty spectacular to make it's way in between my iPhone and MacBook Air. ;)

Thunderbolt?

The thing that is encouraging about thunderbolt is, looking at its implimentation on the macbook pro, we may see motorola atrix-like functionality with next-gen ipads and iphones. iOS would be functional as a desktop OS, and the plan for OSX seems to be to combine iOS and OSX functionality..

Update: iLounge reports that a case cover proximity sensor hinted at in iOS 4.3 may in fact make an appearance in the new iPad in the form of a magnet that could grip the front of folio-style cases and automatically lock and unlock the device. We had previously heard that the rumored proximity sensor might in fact be a magnetic Hall effect sensor

Is this possible considering that the iPad has a compass? Or are digital compasses not susceptible to interference from magnets?

iPad 2 will have a gyroscope, if that is what you mean. It doesn't have a certain direction it'll always direct to, but you could manage that by gps.

Final Cut?

Honestly,
I'm really hoping they at least announce an update to Final Cut Pro. I'm very excited about iPad2, but FCP is my bread and butter and I'd really hate to have to switch to AVID...
