You realize that 'initial stock' is several million phones, right? This isn't like they made 10,000 and ran out. You've got the most advance SOC in mobile being made, a brand new fingerprint sensor that needs to be up to snuff, etc. Takes time to build millions upon millions that pass quality checks.

And guess what? If my launch 5S has a problem, the great thing about Apple is that you bring it in to the store and walk out with a new one (which I did last week on my very nearly out of warranty 5 due to dust under the camera lens....now I have a new phone...well, my wife will have a new 5). Not really concerned.

Yeah I might buy that story if it wasn't the same story every year. This seems like a wash, rinse, repeat... profit. What I don't understand is why some people complain. It's not like we don't know it's going to happen. Next year when the i6 comes there will be some rumored part that will be "severely constrained". We will have limited availability at launch. Same with 6S, 7, 7S, ad nauseum.

AT&T Oct. 21-30 delivery for black 64!

Just received a shipping notice from ATT:

Expected Shipment Date for devices only: 10/21/2013 to 10/30/2013.

Seriously?

Just got the Order Status email (order placed 1:55 am CDT). At time of order (Silver 16g) the estimate was 7-14 days.

Order Status email now says expected ship 10/21-10/31. Oh well.

The original shipping estimate for all 5s models was 1-3 days.

Maybe in the US - but here in the UK I was placing my order within minutes of the store coming back online and it was 7-10 business days shipping.

Reading other posts it seems this was the experience of everyone UK based. Happy to hear otherwise though!

Wow, a month before a black one even ships? Demand can't be that high. I think Apple jumped the gun releasing this without sufficient stock.

Why do people drool over the unboxing and procurement of the GOLDEN IPHONE then hide all said traces of said gold finish with a red leather case?

Seriously.

Likewise with the 5c - PUT YOUR IPHONE 5 in a COLOUR CASE.

T-Moble has plenty

I was just on the phone with T-Mobile, and they claimed to have plenty of all models... including GOLD.
However, their website says only 16GB and 32GB are available in GOLD.

I bought in Space Grey... GOLD was just too much bling for this old man.

Yep – I was on the Apple Store app the second it refreshed at 12.01am – all 5s options were 7-10 days.

Hello, can somebody tell me when the new iphone 5S unlocked will be available to purchase?

I just got an Order Status Update from AT&T: Expected shipment date is 10/1/13 to 10/30/13! really they can't like narrow that down a bit????? I ordered it at 12:07AM this morning:(

Most of the forum folks are actually Samsung/Android fans who want anything Apple to fail. You've got to understand this when reading these forums.

I wouldnt say "most". I think part of the problem is if anyone says the littlest negative thing about Apple or one of their products...they are labeled a troll or android fan boy.

ordered at 2:52 eastern time using at&t premier, still have not received order confirmation

Ordered 32gb gold @ 3:01a from apple using the app.. Fast and painless with 1-3 days ship times.

Question is, why would you want to get the gold iPhone 5S when most people will put them in a protective case anyway?

The answer is: NO CASE. Why would you hide it. For $99, if you drop it, it is covered twice @$79 per drop. If you buy using Amex, it is covered totally at no charge for 90 days (ask me how I know).

I have had an iPhone 5 for a year with no case, no drops, AppleCare+ good for another year. When there is no case, I am more careful.

My wife always gets the old on-contract iPhone and I get the new one. This year she wanted the new one for the fingerprint tech, so I ordered two gold iPhone 5s 64gb at 3:04 am et. Arriving Sept 30.

I disagree. It's 'most'.

People saying the littlest negative thing about Apple are NOT labeled as a troll or android fan boy. That's ridiculous. That's right out of the fan boy playbook.

I'd say it's about 40% people who over criticize Apple out of fear that they'll be labeled as fanboys (or maybe they just hold Apple at a higher standard), 45% fanboys, 1% rational Apple-device-owning consumers and yes, 13% trollers. Plus 1% other.

Update

ATT Online order status states that the SIM card is backordered with no ship date.

German Telekom allowed me to order one on Wednesday, although preorders were supposed to be impossible. I also had a Premium ticket, which Telekom promised would give one preferred treatment when ordering a major new phone.
So I thought I definitely had to be among the first.
On Thursday (still one day before official begin of sales!) I got the message that delivery would be delayed due to unavailability...
Crap.

yeah ok. I could go and give you many examples but not worth my time. You can think what ever you want. Really dont care. All I gave was my opinion and what I have seen lately. And how is my opnion "right out of the fan boy playbook". Have a great day

I thought about that yesterday when I was trying to decide which model to order (White/Gold vs. Space Gray). I decided to pickup an all-clear case to show it off, which helped tip my decision to go for gold (Verizon, 32GB).

My experience, I woke up about 2:50 AM ET and got on the Apple Store app on my iPad. I was able to get in right at 3:00 AM ET and order without any delay. Got confirmation on-screen and via email of 1-3 days shipping time.

:apple:

Not trying to be difficult, but do you know for sure the current stock is several millions phones? If they are having troubles with either the fingerprint sensor or production of the phone in general, they may still be ramping up to the point where they have millions of phones.

This could explain why at most places around the world, online ordering started at 7-10 days. They started at "1-3 days" in the US, which is really not a true estimate IMO. Even people who paid for express shipping with Apple said their ship date was Sept. 27-Oct. 1, so at least a week from today. For standard shipping, our best estimate from what I've heard was Sept. 30-Oct. 2 which is what I got.

There have been several reports on the forums of people in the US being told by Apple Store staff that there are only a few or none of a certain configuration at brick-and-mortar Apple Stores. Also reports of people who ordered online through their carriers having their orders slip to later than they were originally quoted. My order through Apple hasn't slipped yet at least, so let's hope this doesn't start happening more widely.

We'll see as more reports come in here or elsewhere just how many people can get one in person, maybe it's a case of things seeming worse because people are more likely to report bad news than good news, so we may not be hearing about places that have good stock. But if most countries don't have immediate availability online (including the US I would argue), it may turn out that there will be tons of people coming home without an iPhone or with orders not arriving until the beginning of October or later until Apple has geared up production enough to fill demand.
