"Throw away electronics" would be electronics that only last a year. Enticing you to buy a new phone by adding more hardware/software capability is not creating "throw away electronics".
There’s very few electronic products made today that will be in wide use in 30 years. EVERYTHING is “throw away electronics” well before you get to the scale of a human life of 60-70.

A lot of electronics have a big sticker on the outside of the box saying "batteries not included" or printers with "USB cable not included"

And yet we don't have people with pitchforks and torches gathering outside their corporate headquarters. Where are all the complaints about "selling incomplete products" with them?
Those companies have smartly realized what causes this sort of ire… that’s why they don’t put any Apple logos on their packaging. :)

If Apple was so concerned about the environment, they would actually stop making the chargers. But they still do and sell it. It's clearly a money grab, period, and the only impact to the environment is the cost savings to Apple in shipping volume since the box is thinner.
No, if they were REALLY concerned with the environment, they wouldn’t take another ounce of material from the ground, wouldn’t use any more energy for their data centers and would close the spaceship. Better yet, they would take all the property they own, convert it to renewable greenery, like a park or something and just leave it at that.

I could start a company tomorrow that would care more about the environment than Apple simply by not utilizing so very much of the earth’s resources.

I suppose, but it just seems like a very small amount of extra profit to chase. I'm assuming they expected everyone to go buy the official Apple charger, but I personally wouldn't even think of doing that when there are much cheaper charging bricks available at Target or Walmart.
They also get royalties off mfi

I’m not sure why this doesn’t make sense to people.

They changed the cable but gave you the most modern cable so you only were required to purchase one part. The new charging brick.

If you have a brick at home chances are you also have a usb A cable with it.

Because it doesn't make sense.

What if I am coming from Android phone who is using Micro-USB cable? What if my old USB-A cable not working? You might have old cable or power brick, doesn't mean everyone else in the Earth have.

What is so freaking hard to include a power brick?

Like I said earlier... I'd be fine if phones were sold without chargers and cables in the box. Let me buy the ones I actually want (or I'll use the ones I already have)

God forbid you have to go to ANY store on Earth to buy a cable or charger... or AA batteries for your child's toy.

:p

Gezz.. I have so many old phone lying around that has screen, battery, camera perfectly functional. So Apple should ship a phone without screen, battery, camera or even casing...

So what next? Apple just wrap your $1000+ dollar phone with a bubble wrap and ship to your door without box? Like how used electronic being shipped? It must be very environmentally friendly to not cut down so many tress or occupying so many shipping spaces!! God forbid, if you really want box, you can pay extra $100 dollar for a box with Apple Logo

What happened to that "We abide by all laws in countries we do business in" eh Timmy?

Well. If Apple losses final appeals, then it has to abide the law... I simply cannot understand what is the point for appeal? Just slap a freaking charging brick..

Apple produces around 200 million iPhones every year.

That means... in the old days... Apple was also producing:

200 million wired earbuds every year
200 million charging bricks every year
200 million charging cables every year

That seems a little excessive.

Today Apple is only producing a cable to include with every iPhone. So that's a little better from a manufacturing standpoint.

What I still think is funny is all the crap Apple got from Samsung... and then they stopped including chargers too!

Hey Brazil... do you have any plans to go after them too?

🤣

When I bought my iPhone 12, I had to buy a charger because I didn't have USB-C chargers at home. Nobody did at the time. They didn't even lower the price of the iPhone or offer a charger for free. I bought one separately from the Apple Store and it was delivered in this huge box (see image below), like 20X the size of the charger and 5X bigger than the iPhone.

Very hypocritical to say it's for "Environmental reasons". It was one of their finest profit strategies.

Not really, as one isn’t required to buy an “Apple” USB charger. Those companies that make chargers (higher power and cheaper than Apple, so it doesn’t even make sense to buy the Apple ones) don’t even have to pay Apple any fees to make a charger compatible with the USB-C cable that comes with the iPhone. Apple would have done better to make the charger proprietary so that it had to be licensed by Apple in order to work. It seems that for all of their money making prowess, they still haven’t caught on to all the tricks yet.

Thank God someone is fighting back against the criminals at Apple, led by the top criminal himself — Tim Cook.

Only in criminal Tim Cook's Apple would the #1 most important part of the product not be included with the product, but instead be required as a separate purchase.

Tim Cook, you should be in prison.

Highly unlikely that they would continue to make 1:1 of those knowing that their competition has better prices and features. They would all sit on the shelf gathering dust.

Apple is still producing those items... but at nowhere near the volume that they would if they had to include them with EVERY iPhone sold.

Let's be honest... do you think Apple produces 200 million wired EarPods every year? No way. But they did back when they included them in every box. (and most people left them in the box)

And I'd be shocked if Apple even sells 200 million of their own chargers every year. If someone is at Best Buy or Walmart... they're more likely to grab a cheaper charger from some other brand. Or at a gas station if they're desperate! (I don't recommend!)

:p

Time to make authentic chip on the Apple produced charger, so iOS will only charge from Apple charger! For your own safety!

The fact Apple did not even drop the price of the iPhone by $29 US dollars tells you it was for a money grab. At least lower the price of the iPhone since they eliminated the charger but they didn't do that. The prices stayed the same or in other cases, it increased whoppingly.
Exactly. As far as I’m concerned, there’s no other reality except this one. Were it about the environment, they’d have included a free charger but would have made you opt in when purchasing directly and provided a third party channel sales option for customers to attain one. While not having a charger included did authentically double as an environmental benefit and may have potentially staved off a price increase temporarily, for them not to even acknowledge that paying the same for less is the same as the consumer paying more is completely phony. Now they’re going to just stick with their guns and trumpet out the same lame environmental benefits when they’ve already had their 🍑🍑 handed to them in court. It’s like someone plugging their ears and robotically repeating a phrase. It’s very arrogant on multiple levels.

Quite the reaction for no charger. Just wait until they will no longer sell you an iPhone. It will soon be rental only.

Why? The rental iPhone will be for the same reason as no charger. Zero carbon emission 2030 goal of Apples. If they rent only, you have to give it back. They are guaranteed the ability to re-rent it or recycle.

It’s coming. No charger is nothing.

How do you know that? Apple is still including a wire in the iPhone, power brick on all iPads and Macs.

And all your wired EarPods just got replaced by AirPods… I don’t believe this move will reduce production by whole lot..
