Good. I’m all for cutting down on waste but we all know it’s straight up a money grab. If it weren’t, Apple would allow people to get a free charger per new iPhone if truly needed.
I mean they could do an online rebate with credit to Apple/App Store or Apple Cash card. That would likely keep a few people from wanting it even though they didn’t need it.

Time to make authentic chip on the Apple produced charger, so iOS will only charge from Apple charger! For your own safety!
Exactly! Especially since they’re only doing it for the money, they’ve left a BIG hole for other folks to make the money instead of Apple. Maybe Apple’s in the pocket of “Big Charger” where companies like Anker and others make all the profits! They forced Apple to not include chargers AND ensured that Apple branded chargers cost more.

It’s only a conspiracy until we find out it’s true.

They say "use the charger you already have", but then give you a Lightening-to-USB-C cable... when all the old chargers where USB A. It's such a BS money grab that just pisses off customers.
Well, maybe they should say use the charger ‘and cable’ you have. Because every iOS charger came with a USB-A to lightning cable.

Buy a new USB-C charger from some non-Apple company and you don’t have to buy a cable… no that can’t be right, because that would mean Apple’s saving customer’s money… gotta turn it into an “Apple bad” thing… give me a minute.

How do you know that? Apple is still including a cable in the iPhone, power brick on all iPads and Macs.

And as I've said... I don't even want the cable in the box for the iPhone. I already have ways to charge an iPhone.

Any included cable will just be shoved in a drawer somewhere. The included 3-foot cable is too short for me anyway.

You're right about laptop chargers... Apple still includes them. I guess they feel that people won't understand the high-wattage needs of a Macbook.

And all your wired EarPods just got replaced by AirPods… I don’t believe this move will reduce production by whole lot..

But not every iPhone owner buys AirPods, though.

It was crazy to include wired EarPods with EVERY iPhone... in my opinion.

I'd rather buy the AirPods I want... rather than have crappy included wired EarPods that will just stay in the box.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

OR, the number of MacBook chargers in the world that work with the latest MacBooks are infinitesimally small compared to iPhone chargers… which I BELIEVE is true :)

I didn’t read through all 19 pages and sorry if it’s already been mentioned, but forcing Apple to include a charger may not lead to any real practical benefit. All Apple has to do is include a basic 5W charger and most people will opt to buy a faster one anyways. And what if Apple includes a slow charger but raises prices $30 in Brazil? Wouldn’t you have been better off choosing your own charger or reusing one you already have? I don’t really consider this a win for Brazilian courts or consumers.

Even though I agree it is a more profitable play by Apple not to include chargers, as well as making the packaging slimmer allows them to ship iPhones more economically, there is some truth to an environmental benefit from less chargers in the landfills.

Apple event tomorrow, guys! Who's excited?

I wonder what new thing they will leave out of the iPhone box this year?

🤣

For USB cables, I can agree. I have probably at least 30 or 40 lying around, maybe half of which work. 😂

On lightning cables, the iPhone is pretty much the only device to really use them. I never seem to have enough of them, they always fail before it's time to buy another iPhone. I appreciate that they are still including them for that reason.
I would check out other cables then. The ones Apple includes don't last long. Anker and others have cables that are far more flexible and last years.

Call me weird, but when I bought my 12 Pro Max I liked having a choice of different chargers and got the faster one. Having the stock one in the box would have been a complete waste of my money and resources.

It's an absolute money grab by Apple... and it's great to hear that some countries are calling them on it.

Of course - to Apple - who cares? $2m fine? Pah.

Same with me and my 12 Pro Max.

I already had Lightning cables everywhere I needed them... so I wasn't harmed by a charger not being in the box.

But since then... I also decided to slowly replace older USB-A chargers with newer USB-C chargers. Almost every device I buy today can use a USB-C charger... so I was gonna replace them anyway.

Black Friday had a pair of those cute lil Anker 20W chargers for $16. You can't go wrong with that!

:)

I wouldn't mind an option to buy with or without, and make the damn thing free. I would opt out as I have too many of those things already but those who want/need one should be able to get one in the box.

Personally I find it way more offensive to not include the brick with the MagSafe charger

Let's me count it:
4 earphones/headphones, 5 Bluetooth keyboards, 1 Magic mouse, 1 Magic Trackpad; with USB-A or USB-c charge port.
3 camerass chargeable with Micro USB or USB-C (to be fair, they includes a proprietary charger for their proprietary battery).

None of them came with a charger, some not even a USB-A to USB-c cable.
Should I sue them all?

Are Brazilian all waiting for the magic iPhone charger so they are start charging their other USB device?

And if everyone has dozens of unused Apple chargers at home, then Apple could offer to take and refurb/donate them to new users who don’t have one.

None of this has to do with the environment, not when Apple charges $20 for a power adapter. Brazil’s decision makes sense. At some point, Apple will take out the power cord from every device and charge for it.
I don’t follow your logic… how would it be better to give buyers (unneeded) new chargers, and work out some complicated system to “donate” their perfectly good ones, than just not to include a new charger in the first place?

Also, the issue isn’t that ppl have “dozens,” but rather that they likely have all the chargers they need – one for the bedroom, one for work, whatever. The new one would just sit in the box or a drawer somewhere.

I agree they are a waste. I have a drawer full of them, Brazilians can help themselves to mine if they wish. I don't even use the ones that come with my Macbook pro or iPads anymore. They stay in the box, and the box goes on the shelf.

I wouldn't see a problem with this if they had knocked 10-20 off the price of the phone itself, but they didn't.

Instead, they decided to keep that 500,000 cars worth of profit for themselves.

Well yeah, that's my point. I didn't own one thing that supported USB-C before 2020. Everyone that I know who purchased the iPhone 12 and newer bought a separate charger with their purchase. Not very environmentally friendly huh?
USB-C debuted on the 2015 MacBook. You and your acquaintances are really late to the party.

If this was even remotely legitimate from Apple, you would get the $29 off your mobile price if you didn’t pick up your charger.

Cash grab. Indefensible.
ABSOLUTE cash grab. Folks will buy a more inexpensive third party charger instead of buying the Apple one and… ummm…

hmm…

how does the cash grab work again?

If a new iPhone owner doesn't need a charger, then they don't redeem the voucher. It's pretty simple.

If Apple was all about the environment, they'd be collecting and selling refurbished power adapters.
