If they only release a 4S that would be a HUGE mistake for Apple.
People aren't stupid enough to buy a minor upgrade (if the rumors are true) and settle with an iPhone 4S after waiting 15 months.

Hopefully an iPhone 5 will be released with this...if not Apple won't be getting any of my money.

Huge mistake like 3GS? Apple wants to lower production costs and cut prices in order to reach more customers which leads to higher profits. Re-design to please couple of fanboys is not it. Apple needs strong performance in growing markets and you can't do that without aggressive price point.

Everyone talks about pleasing fan boys with a redesign, it's so hilarious. You know nothing about marketing. The average customer (not apple 'fan-boy') wants to see that newly designed phone with it's new features when they are comparing phones to purchase. They will buy the new one because that's what people do, the thing that looks/feels new is the cool thing to have, it's really as simple as this. If you guys can't comprehend this there is no hope for you, no offense.

The same iPhone that Consumer Reports wouldn't recommend? The same iPhone that has documented signal attenuation issues because of design? The same iPhone that's made of fragile, shattering glass?

Yeah, definitely not broken.

So broken it's the best selling smartphone of all time, yeah. Must really be an an obvious clunker to everyone.

iTunes 10.5b9 still available

I said it earlier, but I think people experienced a balance-loading blip. iTunes 10.5b9 is still downloadable on my Developer account. I don't think it was pulled at all.

saichand has a point though. Look at all the media outlets using the term "iPhone 5 event october 4th"... People are expecting an iPhone 5.. There WILL be a negative impact if only the iphone 4s is announced.

Just like last year when all of the media outlets were using the term iPhone 4G and that's what most (lay people, us apple nerds the exception) people were expecting. There was a huge negative impact when "only" the iPhone 4 was released.

I'm in agreement with some others that the iPhone 4s is simply the low cost world phone option for all carriers, the replacement for the 3GS that wil be available on ATT, Verizon, and Sprint.

An iPhone 5 will be released that I believe will carry a design similar to the iPad 2.

I can still download it in my Dev account as well. I don't know what people are talking about with the "it's been pulled" garbage.

Also... the Beta of iTunes is NOT the final version. Just like the latest Beta of iOS 5 doesn't had have the speech capabilities in it, this version of iTunes may not have the iPhone 5 stuff in it either.

I still say its going to be a refresh, not a new design. iPhone4 look, iPad2 internals. Apple still have all those people who bought a 3GS on launch day who need to upgrade, and anyone on a iPhone4 now will upgrade because its the latest :)

If that website screenshot is legit, I guess both iPhones will have the A5. Cool.

And the iPhone 4S with a 16GB option? I guess that means a 64GB 5 is definitely possible.

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned here or any other threads, but isn't weird that the iPhone 4 hasn't been reduced to $99 by now? Hasn't Apple done this with previous iPhone's prior to new releases? Or do they lower the price after an official announcement has been made?

Yep, the anti-i5 crowd has it wrong. The 3gs was a different ballgame, the market HAS changed.

When people see a Samsung Galaxy SII, side by side with iphone4s, which phone would they pick? With competition like s2, it is imperative for them to keep up with the times. These are not times when they can just casually release a minor upgrade iphone, and people will jump on it. Back then there was nothing like 3GS! That's why it sold!

To be honest, I definitely enjoy the iPhone 4 and think it's a great design. I think it's the best phone design yet, as a matter of fact. But somehow the widespread disdain for the potential iPhone 4S/similar form factor has rubbed off on me. haha After getting caught up in all the disappointment, I forget that I actually like the iPhone 4's form factor just fine. (could use a larger screen though)

Yea what a piece of crap the ip4 was... I mean it makes u realize the sheer amount of apple cult members that exist in this world. Buying such a clearly broken unusable product to the tune of tens of millions.... Oh... Wait...

let's all just face it guys. come tuesday when the event comes to a close, we're all gonna be saying "What the ******?!" and be disappointed. it happened almost every year with steve jobs, so don't be surprised when tim cook f**ks us over for the first time. and heres another thought, if this iphone isn't redesigned with all the features its supposed to, then apple has no chance of beating out the galaxy s II.

Whether iOS5 and iCloud were the focus or not, I find it impossible to believe that a company of Apples size, and wealth for that matter are incapable of creating a new handset design within the last 15 months. Especially considering the likes of HTC, Samsung, Sony etc all come out with multiple designs every year!

The general mobile market is a lot more shallow than the PC market. More 95% of the market it is more about having something that looks new and different every year than having new fancy software features. Given Apples general reputation for being design and style trend setters in the technology industry... I just find it hard to believe they will not bring out something that looks new.

LOL... Wanna bet 20000 dollars if the s2 outsells the next iteration of the iPhone?

Ah, so this is why the download link wasn't working for iTunes 10.5b9. I still managed to get it as I want to see how much they've improved iTunes Match since the last beta.

It's amazing that even with the evidence right under your noses some of you continue to believe that there will be a redesigned iPhone.

I, for one, am excited by the 4S. A5, 8MP camera, 1GB RAM (in a PHONE!), and the antenna issue negated, according to AnandTech, http://bit.ly/h1kWrf

So, what's not to love? The iPhone 4S sounds pretty damn incredible.

I will be VERY disappointed if they release an iPhone 5 with a similar design to the iPad 2. I'll never be able to fit it in my pocket.

Why fix something if it's not broken? I can't wait to get my first iPhone!

Why would they call it a 4S? It's the fifth phone so the next - sixth one will be called an iPhone 5? Also I think it would be better selling, if they named it an iPhone 5.

Ummmmm, iPhone (1) to iPhone 3g to iPhone 3Gs to iPhone 4. Your theory is blown!

So, the iPhone 3Gs should have been called the iPhone 4 by your measure. It wasn't.

So now we have these options:

1) This could be the only iPhone

2) This will be the low coast iphone and and iPhone 5 will come out

3) This is the high end model with the 4 being the low end

4) Or this is a trick or somthing and there will be only an iPhone 5

I hope if this is the high end or the only iPhone being released that there is some more noticeable feature than just a better camera and the assistant. The better processesor is nice but not really somthing a non tech person would notice. I hope we do get surprised.
