1) Main thing about this Tuesday's event is iOS 5 and iCloud, more software than hardware i mean.

The heading of the invites was "let's talk iPhone" if it was about iOS5 or iCloud they could do that at the developers conference, this event is about the iPhone

I think this is the cheaper iPhone, I still believe that there will be an iPhone 5.

And unfortunately i am saying these still owning a iPhone 3G from the October of 2008, now without the lock button and extra slowness. I too would want an iPhone redesign especially after waiting this 4-5 months for a new phone but my logic is stating otherwise.

4-5 months? I've had an iPhone 4 AT&T since launch, what, 16 months ago?

Early rumors peg iOS 6 as being a "major" overhaul to iOS. If I'm remembering right, this was something similar to what Gruber said at one point a few months back, as well as The Verge, and I think 9to5mac. Don't quote me, I could be remembering wrong though.

With that said, it makes more sense to release a completely redesigned phone with an overhauled redesigned iOS in 2012.

If all this is true concerning a lack of an actual re-design, then this may be the first time in recent memory that Apple's presentation was a letdown. Considering Amazon's announcements exceeded all expectations, Apple better be prepared for serious fallout - warranted or not - if they don't deliver as usual.

The software enhancements had better be out of the park!!

Discontinue the Ipod Classic
Release an Ipod Touch 64gb and 128gb
Discontinue the 3gs
Replace the Iphone 4 with the 4s (low budget, easy to make, 8gb-64gb)
Release a Iphone 5 (bigger screen, bigger camera, bigger storage, slimmer)

The sheer amount of iPhone 5 cases for sale right now is proof enough for me that we are going to see a redesign on Tuesday. For these companies to spend serious money on injection molding tooling would mean the end for lots of them.

Lots of you keep harping on about the specs being of huge importance and a redesign being off much less interest, but in all honesty the huge majority of the public don't care are about specs, they just want the latest iPhone. If it looks the same as last years it will just not be as attractive a purchase.

Expect a nice 4S hardware boost to the best phone on the market and be excited. If they come up with a new phone AHMAHZING but if they do not so what... The iPhone 4S will still be the best selling phone until the iPhone 5 comes out.

People seem to be winding themselves up and working themselves up for disappointment. They don't even know what the iPhone 5 is... yet they want it just because it is different. That is just an odd desire to me. The iPhone 4 is an awesome device. Improving its specs is awesome. Yet people would rather have some new device they know nothing about instead.

As Gruber pointed out the idea of a teardrop design makes no sense, yet that is the strongest possibility for the iPhone 5 rumors. Given that, I wish people would just settle down. So many of the people here are intentionally setting themselves up to be angry and disappointed, and for no good reason. Yet so many of them will blame Apple, yet Apple did nothing to mislead them in any way shape or form.

Think about it, the reason why stolen new iPhone wasn't revealed to the press by the holder of the stolen iPhone could be the same design. Non-geek eye couldn't tell if it was new or not. Just an idea...

Also they've milked the 3G design for 2 years and they still sell that design with 3GS. iPhone 4 design is far more great than the 3G and you expect them to milk it only 1.5 years? Especially when it's still selling millions worldwide.

I think Apple will only clear things up and maybe do a cheaper model with les storage. And by clear i mean clear the Verizon, AT&T stuff. If one thing they're trying to be more global at these times. Look at all the China stores and iTunes store going to lots of European countries etc...

And yes, at the moment they are doing everything perfect. They make quality hardware and software. Unless they pull a HP, there is no way they will hit bankruptcy. They have their **** pulled together now, not like in the middle 90s. Two Models

I believe that two phones will be announced on Oct. 4th:

There will be the iPhone 4S to compete against low and mid range Android Phones. Slightly modified but still the same body as the iPhone 4:

iPhone 4

A4 / 5MP / 8GB / 512MB RAM / 3.5" / $49 / 16GB $99 / 32GB $199 with 2 year contract.

iPhone 5

A5 / 8MP / 1GB RAM / 4" Screen / Thinner than the iPhone 4/4S. May possibly be the thinnest phone on the planet and noticeably lighter than the 4S. Possibly a 64GB model.

My guess is that the iPhone 4S will be available almost immediately and the iPhone 5 will be available starting a few weeks later, but in very limited quantity.

These are my predictions and I believe that's how it will turn out.

I'm much more interested as to when iOS 5 will ship as I don't qualify for an phone upgrade for another year.

The typical apple consumer will be more than fine with an improved iPhone 4 device. I don't think some of you really understand why Apple is successful or who their customer base is.

I've been saying there will be one phone called the "4S" for months and I have got so much abuse for the opinion. Glad to see it's close to coming true. Who knows maybe there will be a "5" alongside it but I remember so many people in these forums saying "naming it the "4S" would be stupid".

They did have some quite boring keynotes. The iPod Boombox sucked, the first iPod Shuffle was a bad joke, the iPhone 3G was worse than the first in terms of material and the 3GS only a speed bump. Due to lacking competitors both were fine, but times have changed.

Thank you, I love the current iPhone design. I'm actually excited about the spec upgrade and iOS5 is arguably the biggest OS upgrade since the first addition.. We will possibly see 8x faster, a dual core CPU with double the RAM, and a much better camera. Sounds like a solid device to me.

People, think about this logically:

• The iPhone 4 remains the best-selling smartphone today. A new iPhone, even one identical in external design, whether it's called the 4S or not, will likely sell as well, if not better.

• Apple isn't even remotely concerned about the empty threats of a few hundred entitled commenters threatening to purchase a rival device.

• While it's true Apple has followed a near yearly refresh of the iPhone, no one knows for certain if the device to be announced on 10/4 was actually delayed. Apple has not once confirmed the yearly refresh cycle. If there was a delay, it is most likely on account of iCloud/iOS 5.

• What if an iPhone is released every June/July? That suggests a new phone in only seven or eight months. I'd be willing to bet that's when we'll see the redesigned iPhone 5, in summer 2012.

• The entries being discovered in retailers are likely just placeholders for internal purposes. From an operations point of view it makes the most sense to label these internal entries iPhone 5, even in an absence of confirmation. They're hedging their bets and likely know as much (or less than) everybody here.

• Even if the blogosphere explodes in whining about a lack of redesign and even if Apple's stock does dip as the idiot reactionists claim the company is burning to the ground in Jobs' absence, the stock will rebound days later after their likely record earnings call.

• Remember Antennagate? Apple and its shareholders don't.

That's what I am thinking. If it's the same form factor, they already had access to the rest of the parts. Why delay 3 months to add an 8MP camera and the A5 chip that was already ready for the iPad 2 6 months ago. Even if they had to tweak the chip for power consumption or something, there's no way it should've delayed the phone. I'm just hoping the voice stuff didn't delay it for some reason. New amazingness>using my voice to control my phone.

We have heard about the siri and nuance stuff. Clearly with this being the 4S a lot of the bang will come along with iOS 5. They waited on the software to launch the hardware, because it is the combination of the hardware and software that create the next generation of iPhone.
