No, you're not the only one. I'm fine with the internal upgrade and still love the look and feel of the iPhone 4.
That is probably why you are not the largest market cap business in the world and they are.
You don't understand PR, marketing, product development, sales and the rest, and they do.
If they only release a 4S, they will still sell them as fast as they can make them for a good while.

We've just been thrown for a roller coaster ride with theses rumours. I swear I'm gonna get mental whiplash from all the conflicting rumours surfacing left and right each day.

This is what I was thinking too. What better way would there be to eliminate the possibility of an iPhone 5 being released than by Apple itself issuing something like this? Then at the keynote no one will be expecting the iPhone 5 and then Tim Cook will surprise us all with a super awesome, chocolatey fudge coated iPhone 5.

I don't know what is coming out, nor do I care, I will buy it.
I'm in no terrible rush, I traded my Droid Incredible for an IPhone 4 last week.
But.... I still want the newest & Greatest and I still have an Upgrade on my VZW Account. I'll buy it when it comes out, whatever it is.
What I find Hilarious is the speculating, assertions and plain silliness in this group about a product that NOBODY here knows anything about. Folks here act like they know everything Apple or any other company is doing and how they think, but in all reality they have never been involved in Product creation, design and manufacture. FWIW, I have, I worked for Motorola for over 4 years, I know, I handled prototyped that NEVER saw the light of day and those that did didn't look ANYTHING like the prototype that was originally created!! I still have Pictures I did over ten years ago on the Iridium Satellite Phone prototype and the final wasn't even close.
If there is a redesign, I'll buy it, if there is NO redesign, I'll buy it too, who cares??? It's not the end of the world. It will still be a great product.
Trust me, Ergonomics won't make it or break it!! I know, After 26+ Years of Professional Photography, I have seen superb ergonomics on gear that DOESN'T WORK!!! I would much rather have something that actually works.
Just wait. FWIW, the more of you that get pissed and won't buy the next Gen IPhone, the better chances for me to get one the first day it comes out, so please, get pissed!!

I wonder if all people who like the iPhone 4 design or don't want a redesign already have one and just don't want to buy yet another one again.
Who actually needs such a speedy phone? It's not like people need or even want to play the next Crysis on 3.5". That's certainly no "killer feature" and even Assistant probably is not, considering how it will probably, for the time being, only be optimized for the US...
does anyone else think that the "iPhone 5" text we're seeing in retail inventory is just there because they didn't know the actual name of the new phone? and also that these "iPhone 5" cases could just be updated iPod Touch cases? 
Ask yourself "why". It's a bit like asking why would they need an iPad 3 this year. Simply they don't need a new design. The current design is loved by many consumers. The iPhone 4 to this day is still selling extraordinarily well. There will be plenty of people who will buy the new 4S and in a year some will look back and think how foolish they were Apple needed a whole new design just for their new device to be a massive success.
Yeah but iOS 5 is bringing a lot of changes, many of which will only be maximized by the new hardware. In this case the hardware has been waiting on the software.
The iPhone 4 is an amazing device. Adding upgraded hardware with a major iOS upgrade is a huge improvement to the phone.
People demanding that they modify the exterior of a device that is already really well made does not make a lot of sense. It is change simply for the sake of wanting change. If they do only release an iPhone 4S it will be superior to the current iPhone 4 in all ways. The only thing it will not have is a new exterior look. Why that is that important to some people is beyond me, it certainly has almost nothing to do with the functionality of the phone.
The issue I take with this is that the average consumer doesn't know what the improvements are if they don't care about specs. This could easily fly with the 3GS when competition was at a minimum, but Android devices are starting to catch up (Samsung Galaxy S II). I still prefer iOS, but it is frustrating to watch features I want (slightly larger screen) appearing in other devices.
The only angle Apple can take (and I am certain will take) with the 4S is to advertise the software advantages that the 4S has over the 4, such as Assistant.
EDIT: Also, I want to point out that I am actually quite happy with the 4's external casing. It's gorgeous. I wouldn't mind a bit thinner, but a larger screen is something I was really hoping for.

I agree, they even made a promo video just for iOS5, when have they done that before? It's clear the software will play a big part this year in terms of marketing.

Yeah, I agree with your first point. I think people just kinda presumed that would be the name and now that it looks like it won't, people are getting a bit upset.
