What else will it take, haha.
What the hell does this all mean?
We obviously knew there was an iPhone 4S...does this mean there isn't an iPhone 5?
thing is ... apple will still sell millions of iphone 4 eses.
A5 processor is 2.5 times faster than A4. Assistant feature(may be exclusive to new iPhone) would need extra RAM so they will bump it to 1 GB.Holy *****. I wish I had bought AppleCare for my iPhone 4's second year term...
from A4 -> A5 and if the RAM won't get upgraded to 1GB... it's gonna be much less differences than the transition from 3G to 3GS...
2 Phones quite possibly, but launching them this way with no real advanced notice would be super chaotic, and unprofessional. This will never happen

What would Apple gain from calling it the 4S instead of 5?
If they call it the 4S they not only lose the fluid generational naming scheme and the iOS 5 > A5 > iOS 5 thing they also tell people its a minor upgrade.
Any smart business will want to tell people its the biggest upgrade possible to drive sales.
They gain NOTHING from calling it the 4S and in fact could lose sales by giving the impression of a minor upgrade.
Calling it, whatever it may be even if it looks EXACTLY like the iPhone 4, an iPhone 5 HELPS them in that it at least gives the impression of a major upgrade... Not to mention the other benefits I mentioned in the second line.

The iPhone has never had a fluid generational naming scheme. That is what seems to be eluding some of you. You want apple to protect a naming scheme that never existed
Doesn't Apple always release their new phones without any official advanced notice? I'm pretty sure it happens every year...

The iPhone 4S and iPhone 5.
The 4S is a lower model that most likely will be $99.
The 5 will be a higher model.
Here is a link that show a leak of both.

Thefan said:Al Gore never said that.
We don't know, based on the context of what he said whether or not he said "iPhones coming out this year" or "iPhone's coming out this year" As in "The iPhone is coming out this year"
If I say "My brother's coming over" i don't mean my two or more brothers I mean "My brother is"
It is far from proof.
Though I still think there are two models being released. I doubted it until I read this article but I would never believe Apple would alienate customers by calling this the 4S... They will only release a 4S if there is also a 5 coming out... If there is only one phone, even if it looks like the iPhone 4 it will be called the 5... So I think there are two models based on this article.
Again, this is why I give up. And I guess none of the other examples I gave prove anything either. I can't wait until Tuesday. And actuallyl Al Gore said exactly that, "new iphones in October".
----------
That isn't proof...
We don't know if that company actually HAS any info... We don't know if they are speculating or not... We don't know.
Without a valid source we don't have a leak.
Um, all of that data actually confirms what the Apple engineer told the New York Times, but I guess that doesn't matter. It could be conincidence, but probably not. You guys would make poor investigators, haha.
So you're saying reading these threads is a waste of time? LOL![]()

The 4S takes the place of the iPhone 4 with dual-mode radio and faster processor (the S is for speed, right?). The iPhone4 becomes the cheap iPhone everyone is expecting. And yes, there will still be an iPhone 5 with the better camera, more memory, and maybe other hardware features that will top the iPhone 4S.
Dcuellar said:I think your logic is flawed by way of the 3GS. Apple could have called that model the iPhone 4 but saved that moniker for its successor. It's quite possible and logical that Apple would name the one and only next iPhone the 4S. Just like with the 3GS the "S" is for speed as the 4S will be capable of HSPA+ on GSM networks where the 4 is not. Perhaps it will have some tweaked speed advantage on the CDMA networks too.
Will there be an iPhone 5? Probably. But I'd hedge my bet it comes out in 2011.
Is there any way to find out how the 3GS did in sales compared to the other phones? If it did significantly lower than the iPhone 1, 3G, and 4 then I doubt they would use 'S' again in their names unless they have an iPhone 5 ready to be announced as well.
It would be nice to see the stock for Apple tomorrow. I'd like to see the reaction from this slip up.
Let's make things interesting. People on each side of this debate say they are absolutely sure they are right. So why not put a little weight behind your words? How? Bet your profile on it.
No matter which side you take, put your MacRumors profile on the line. Change your signature to reflect your feelings, and pledge to never post again if you are wrong, just like I did. Because I'm absolutely positive Apple will not be releasing an iPhone 5. All evidence points against it, and anyone saying otherwise is just engaging in wishful thinking.
So c'mon, do you have the courage of your convictions to put some weight behind your words? Or are you just spewing hot air?
Have you committed your life for Macrumors? You know, this is just a Smartphone getting release in 2 days. Why so serious? Just enjoy the rumors. See what others have to say. Reply and that's it. No betting, mate.Let's make things interesting. People on each side of this debate say they are absolutely sure they are right. So why not put a little weight behind your words? How?
