I've stated before a while back that SJ loved the current iPhone design. In fact I think it would be odd for a redesign as we all know Steve is pretty much set in his ways and knows better than we do.

However, I too would like to see a little bigger screen- but I don't care if it's the same design as the current iP4; just bigger.

I have not (logically thinking) been able to surmise why apple would change its beloved designed phone, showing the world that antennagate was indeed real.

I want it too, but i strongly believe its not comming.

I passed on the 4 because it was behind the times 14 months ago. A new chip and camera is not gonna do it for a lot of people.

I would love to hear how you justify that statement. When the iPhone 4 came out it was not "behind the times", unless you're crazy enough to just look at the raw specs on paper. Better screen than any other phone. Better actual pictures than phones with higher mp ratings. And great performance, if you can ignore the Mhz numbers that most phones try to dazzle you with.

Now, honestly, a fella came into my office Friday with his new iPhone 4 and we both compared the screen to my old 3gs. Loaded a few websites to get a look at the 'retina' effect on small text. We could hardly tell the difference. Believe me, it ain't the selling point you folks think it is.

If you can't say there's a benefit to the screen of the iPhone 4 over the 3GS, then I don't know what to tell you. Other than physical screen size, what are the amazing improvements of these new phones over the iPhone 4?

Personally I like the current design too although an aluminum body like the iPad 2 would be nice. I also don't see how a redesign confirms anything about the antenna. Eventually everything gets a new design. The original Movado was beautiful and unique but subsequently the body of the watch was redesigned while the face remained. Well you could argue iOS is the face and the physical part of the phone is the body. Everything changes, everything. Besides how do you know a new design wouldn't be better? Maybe it will break some new ground.

Wow, no visible differences between the screens of iPhone 4 and 3GS? Wow, just wow.

To be honest I'm a bit disappointed... 15+ months and all we get is a few internal improvements??

Why do people clamor for constantly new and different? The iPhone 4 form factor is beautiful, elegant, and imminently ergonomic. WHY change it? The internals are what count - that's where you get the changes that actually matter. So yes, 15 months and "all" you get is a new, faster processor, better camera, etc! LOL.

The most exciting thing about this news is all the whining and disappointment amongst the forum population! "No new form factor, no sale", "If that's all it is, I'm not upgrading", blah blah blah. I am loving it!

The rumor forum denizens are insignificant to Apple. The majority of the world will continue to love the iPhone and buy the new version in record numbers. Heck, most of them didn't even know a new version was coming, so any new specs are a welcome surprise to them!

Well, I'll be buying whatever Apple unveil on Tuesday. One factor is the resale value of my IPhone 4. It'll probably cost me around £150 to upgrade to the 4S now, but if I wait for the 2012 version, that cost would go up considerably.
I'll be glued to my laptop like everyone else on Tuesday evening (6pm here in the UK).

!

because the current competition is better LOL

you guys are ridiculous! the iphone 4 is outdated and has been outdated since its launch! im as much as a fanboy as everyone else, but facts are facts. right now the iphone 4 is behind every other phone. if the iphone 4s is released with with the features it's supposed to have, the it will only be average compared to the phones that are out now, and then soon be outdated again. if your talking about speed, thats mostly because of ios not the internals. think about it this way: the macbook pros that are out now are great (i have one). they look great, they're fast, and they work great. but even so, you can go get a windows laptop for cheaper, that has superior hardware. when it comes to apple the only things they succeed in for the most part is software

Really weird logic, so specs on paper is more important than the actuall speed when using a device? Who cares if it is the software or hardware that makes a device fast, it is the percieved speed when using a device that is the most important thing.....

Care to be more specific when stating the iPhone 4 has been outdated since it's launch?

you don't get it. all im trying to say is that when it comes to HARDWARE, the iphone is behind when compared to other phones. that's it! not my opinion on the speed or any other feature. just facts. and hypothetically speaking perception isn't everything: if a new, non apple, phone comes out and it has a quad core processor, and the iphone still has a dual core, the other phone is gonna be capable of a lot more.

Again, who cares if the iPhone wouldn´t have the fastest specs out there when it is faster than most of the phones that have better specs?

Essentially, what all of you "…it has to be redesigned…" people are saying is that you want Apple to be more 'innovative' by copying the phones that have larger screens. Sorry I don't see that as being innovating.

like i said before capability is what matters. if a phone has better hardware then it is capable of more. what your talking about is preference and opion.

well first of all screen size isn't something you can innovate. size is size is size. you can't be creative with it. and you can still easily be innovative and have current to future generation hardware. you innovate design, not internal hardware.

Wow. You seriously need to think for a second. Numbers don't mean everything. With a phone that started off as a very basic concept and now grown as an effective mobile platform; that means more than any new processor Apple gives their new iPhone.

Logically, 3GS owners will want an ironed out iPhone 4. On top of that, iOS5 will push the mobile operating race further out of reach for Android and co.

No matter what gets announced on tuesday, most people will be let down but then watch apple's video about how great it is and how much work went into it, then all will love it.

omg, you guys don't get it!! im not giving my opinion! all i am trying to do is prove a point that the HARDWARE of the iphone 4 is and was behind others! and yes numbers do matter, because they tell you what your phone is physically able to do. a good OS can only help out so much!

Let's just get this straight guys.

Apple might just announce an iPhone 4S. Will it still sell good? Yes, because it's an iPhone. But will it sell amazingly as predicted?
I don't think so.

The public would look at how the phone looks first, and then they would look at the specs. If the next iPhone looks just like the iPhone 4, then people would say "if it looks the same as last year's model, i can just buy the iPhone 4 which is cheaper now"
It would be completely stupid for Apple to release an iPhone 4S as their main phone after 15months since the last upgrade.

The smartphone market right now is leaning towards bigger screen, better resolution, better camera, slick form factor.

Unfortunately, i think Apple got it's priorities wrong, I believe Apple could have taken the iPhone 4 launch as a great way to launch an iPhone with a 4" screen. At the time the iPhone 4 came out, a 3.5" would be small. Now a days we're seeing phones with 4" screens at the same form factor as the iPhone. But 4"+ screens.
Now, if the iPhone had text wrap, it would've been even easier to browse the internet, but it doesn't. So a bigger screen does help a lot.

The iPhone 4 has a completely flawed design, with all the issues it has such as: antennagate, proximity sensor, glass breaking, ergonomic design, fact that consumer report couldn't recommend it etc. it would come as a huge surprise to me, if Apple didn't redesign it.

Needless to say, a redesign would be the smart thing to do, and the right thing to do. Will Apple do it? Who knows.

I am sticking with my iPhone 4 but I hope Apple has something better up their sleeves, as just minor updates to the current 4 will be really a downer however I am hopeful they have some trick up their sleeves.

Has no-one seen the rumors that Apple will release two new iPhone models...

Does it escape your reasoning that Apple might just release both and iPhone 4S and an iPhone 5? Has no-one maybe thought that the reason it's taken Apple 16 months to release the new iPhone(s) is because they might release two new models?
