Trawling through bank websites I found this page: https://www.sparkasse.de/service/kontaktloses-bezahlen-NFC.html

Interesting that they quote Apple Pay (and Android Pay) and mention, that "soon" customers would be able to pay with their smartphone or smartwatch. This isn't concrete information with a start date, but the new Sparkasse terms of service (from the end of last year) and increasing information from the Sparkassen in the last few months about new payment methods for "smartphones" this year are increasing my hopes that 2018 is the year for Apple Pay in Germany.

Let's see what happens tonight.

For me it sounds a bit like we are building an own system and it's using the same technology as Android and Apple pay

It would really be surprising when such an old fashioned bank like Sparkasse would be an Apple Pay partner for launch

But the page isn´t new. Not old though.

Sooner or later they have to support it.

I´ve just seen a German tweet where someone claims that AP appeared on his phone. Nothing, on mine so far.

This seems fake to me. It's no proof at all. You can get the same notification by changing your region to US, activating apple pay cash and switching your region back to Germany. The apple pay cash card will still be in your wallet app but you will not be able to configurate it or add another credit/debit card.

It’s the same screen I get in the Netherlands in 11.3 beta with region set to the Netherlands. It’s not fake. I get the same error message.

And you never changed your Region to US before? Well then it seems like apple is indeed preparing the launch for apple pay in Germany and maybe the netherlands too. I would be more than happy to finally use apple pay!

Seems like some more (to me subjectively more trustworthy) guys have this appearing on their phones...

I just got round to activating my UK cards (switched to UK region), set everything up, set it back to Germany and the cards have stayed in my wallet. Hooray! A tap on the "+" sign gives me an error message though... sadly! I did also try activating some German cards of mine through the UK region setting (which apparently worked through the US region setting just before the UK based Apple Pay launched back in 2015), but no success. I tried Ing Diba, Sparkasse and DKB cards. Apple Pay wasn't even able to detect my Sparkasse cards, but was able to read the numbers off of the DKB and Ing Diba cards. Is that a sign?

Before I could click the plus and try to add a card. It wouldn’t give me an error until card issuer not supported. Now I get this error message when clicking the plus sign. So something has changed

Doubt it, it has been reading the numbers of my Dutch credit card for a long time. Now it won’t let me enter the screen anymore so that has changed.

Let’s hope so!

Were you getting the wallet settings option before today with region settings set to the Netherlands or is this new? I see nothing with region settings set to the Netherlands running 11.3 beta.

I noticed them yesterday when pointed out they weren’t there for somebody who’s not on beta. Didn’t really pay attention.

@sunny2k1: We must be talking about at least one "Direktbank" such as DiBa or DKB and either the Sparkasse or the Volksbanken/Raiffeisenbanken (although they are traditionally even slower at adopting new tech than the Sparkassen), right?

It's getting exciting! But if these settings are shooting up everywhere now, that must mean that Apple Pay is due soon... At the very latest with the release of iOS 11.3.

If the rumors (of launching partner) are true, than it would be the largest launch of Apple Pay so far... (percentage of possible accessible cards)

My Austrian Bank made an Update today, they said they made preparations for a new Feature???:D:):apple:
