I read today some article which said that it is very unlikely for Apple to hold a spring event this year. It says that some good informed insiders confirmed that Apple will only hold an event on WWDC since there are no new products to introduce at all. iPhone SE 2 is probably canceled, nrw iMac pro got released lately, new Mac Pro is still a year away and Apple Watch got a update as well only few months ago. MacBook Air is supposed to be canceled. MacBooks Are expected to be updated this fall only so that leaves the iPad which could get a redesign but it would be silly to hold an event just to show an updated iPad.

Im just repeating what the article said so it’s not my information. I think I read it on Macwelt. Not sure if I’m allowed to link.

Seems we might need to wait even longer for Apple Pay because I cannot imagine Apple will just release Apple Pay without making a big introduction at a keynote. It would be the biggest launch since the initial launch of Apple Pay back in 2014.

I don't even think they will announce it at a keynote. The last time Apple introduced a new country for AP at a keynote was September 2016, and is was Japan with the "Felica" Payment System. Honestly, if AP in Germany was so important for Apple, they would have announced it much earlier.

So nothing regarding Apple Pay in germany in iOs 11.3 beta 2.
Why should it? I don‘t think Apple has to change anything on the OS or the core apps to unlock Apple Pay in new regions.

Lay back and watch the show. Life goes on without Apple Pay.

Actually Apple Pay Cash support was added on iOS 11.2 beta and finally released to other users with 11.2. So I though maybe they will enable on test level and release with 11.3. Well I do not think that Pay will appear sonn. However, hope dies at the end.

All is ready, since iOS 11.2.5 according to sunny 2k1.

according to sunny apple pay should have been announced a week ago. according to sunny this week should start a slow roll out. according to sunny ios 11.2.5 included changes for apple pay and added identifiers for german banks. first did not happen. his second prediction did not still not happen. not a single user reports back about this slow roll out neither here nor on reddit or somewhere else and we are already in the middle of the week. and his information about 11.2.5 was proven wrong by some guy who checked 11.2.5 and could not find a single change about apple pay.

i dont believe a word anymore what this guy said or is going to say. i believed him a week ago because all he said sounded plausible and why would he make this stuff up. but truth is not a word he told us was right so far. apple pay aint launch in germany any time soon. just not adds up announcing brazil but not talking about germany or netherlands if it were to happen soon. you guys say "no apple wont need to announce it on a keynote." ok i get that but then WHY DIDNT THEY ANNOUNCE IT ON THE EARNINGS CALL. so if not announce it on earnings call, if not announce it on a keynote then when should they announce it. not announce it at all and make a slow rollout? why? if you bring a new feature you would like to tell the people about it or not. like i said ... this would be like releasing iphone x without a keynote. not gonna happen.

unfortuntely there are no news at all about apple pay germany. it has been quite since last year august/september. and sunny was a liar just making stuff up to feel important.

calm down... it's just another way of paying. nothing more. if you want to pay wireless, use your Giro- or CreditCard.

and to be honest... why should they "announce" it in advance? and then on a conference call for US business journalists, who are only interested in numbers around the iphone x sale? brazil was mentioned, yes. in two words, in a subclause. nobody cared. why should anybody...

If it comes to Germany, you will get noticed by Apple and the press.

I don’t really get why everyone thinks it should have been announced during the earnings call to launch soon. AFAIK in Brazil it is only about getting VISA and MasterCard issuing banks to support Apple Pay, very predictable timeline if you ask me. The German market is quite different, most of the card payments are neither performed with VISA, nor with MasterCard. Most payments are done with Girocard, Maestro and VPay, so completely different schemes and with Girocard a very unique German scheme. The infrastructure for VISA and MasterCard AP is ready since 2016, it’s all about contracts and supporting local schemes. It might be announced during a proper keynote, but I even doubt this. I really do think it will solely be a press release and a start one or two weeks later, Apple Pay is no longer the new kid on the block, so why would Apple dedicate a time slot for this on a keynote in 2018?
My bet would be a start in March, but who knows.

My question is: Why does Apple not start in Germany with Amex, Visa or Mastercard or for example Ing Diba? So they put the pressure on all the banks to offer this service too.

because Visa and MasterCard do not issue cards themselfs and Amex is just not existent on the european and german market. starting with amex would be like building a 30 stories building for rent in the middle of Gobi Desert.

You need the banks and you need the big ones, if you want to succeed on the market. otherwise it will end like in switzerland. Apple Pay started with a handful of small service providers and after a year, they are just second place with around 30% share on the mobile payment market, which is still under 1% of the whole payment market.

Compared with the marketshare of iPhone and the fact, that Twint is working on iOS and Android, this number isn't that bad in my eyes, how the press try to view it.

iOS had up to 60% of the market in switzerland and fell under 50% just a year ago. So that's no point for me.

I would say, Apple Pay would have a much bigger influence on the market, if Apple had the important banks on their side. But they don't have any swiss bank at all. Just sidekicks and 3rd Party services.

Twint has UBS, CreditSuisse, Raiffeisen, Postfinance, Züricher Kantonal, Sparkassen and so on behind them.

Apple Pay could not convice one of them. You have to open a second account, a second or third credit card to use Apple Pay.

In Germany, iOS has a market share around only 15%. If they would start without the big banks (Sparkasse, Deutsche Bank, Postbank, ...), Apple Way would be just non existent on the market.

And that will be the reason, they don't offer Apple Pay here unless, they have some important contracts.

No one? I´ve found two where AP appeared. They claimed to use iOS 11.2.5.

I my eyes not at all that handy, then Apple Pay on the Watch. ( I use Boon, so I know what I am talking about)

Thats a very valid point. In my eyes brazil is important for the americans, as it is one of the holiday areas and therefor also interesting for american press (as usually when Apple Pay is rolled out, the number of stores that support it will go up).
Weird enough in Germany it works the other way around at the moment.
stores more and more support wireless paying and include Apple Pay right with it.
I am really amazed how much stores support Apple Pay already and even without them knowing that they do *hehe*
I believe once these forms of paying will be more common, also smaller stores will support it, also because of the significant lower payment they have to do to the credit card companies. I just think they need more time to think about that and the benefits they get (as I wrote already: Less money in the cashier and less risk with cash-money).
I think the less risk also led to gas stations accepting credit cards more and more. And interestingly, the main "free" gas stations also now accept credit, whereas they didn#t some years ago. And I dont know any Gas-Station which only accept cash?

The stores don't "support Apple Pay". They support NFC based payements of Giro/maestro/Vpay/... Cards and Apple Pay supports these systems *smart ass* :D

If you read sites like Concardis, there is some more that just NFC.
NFC is the basis, for sure, but here is also some form of contract to do with the payment provider to accept Apple Pay. A lot of payment providers might put this in their standard service already.
I had already a couple of stores that accept MasterCard NFC but Apple Pay with Boon MasterCard was not working and was rejected. The cashier said "because of security reasons", but I don't know if that is the real issue.
Also it is a difference in payment as a NFC would ask for PIn if you pay over a specific amount and Apple Pay is supposed to not do.
So just plain if NFC then Apple Pay is Not what I See in the wild.

New Dutch Apple Pay support page: https://support.apple.com/nl-nl/HT203027

Interesting fact, this time around there is also a Czech version.

It’s also in German, but they have to translate it anyway because of Switzerland.

So now we have:

I'm not so sure if the Publishing date means anything, because it should be in every language the same.

One little thing I found, when I was digging around the support sites - you can order AP-Sticker for Germany: https://www.applepaysupplies.com/applepaykit.html?___store=ap_de (I don’t know if this was possible before)
