You don’t have to interact with the chip reader at all here, it allows you to skip all that. It’s not as fast as Apple Pay, but a lot faster than their chip and pin system.
In that case it’s even worse if the secure card reader is not the device that’s processing the payment.

i have read that the more credit cards a consumer possess the more likely they are to be in debt and deeper in debt. Store credit cards are known for having the higher interest rates than bank issue cards.

Your observations about store credit cards are spot on. They’re obnoxious and only promote more debt. The nice thing with the Target REDcard for some is that it can be linked right to your debit card, thus NOT being a store credit card. The REDcard works either way depending on how you set it up.

And this is why I like Samsung Pay.
It's a middle finger to those stores and their proprietary garbage like this.
Well except the transmission of the data in the stripe of your card meaning it can be snooped. If it became popular it would would be an easy target .

another reason to boycott Target...the first being their idea that hanging a christmas tree upside down is cool (look it up) ...no, its insulting to the Reason for the Season.
Isn’t the reason for the season the winter solstice? :)

Personally I don’t care how anyone decks the halls or what boughs they use. Just bring on the greens (even artificial) and the lights.

As for the topic, I try to avoid face-to-face shopping except for gas and groceries (and emergency caffeine drinks) so this is just one more reason Target isn’t going to get my business.

It’s a middle finger to you as well since it’s much less secure. Guessing it won’t belong before ne’erdowells figure out how to exploit it.

As much as I dislike Samsung, you can’t claim Samsung Pay is “much less secure”. It uses the same basic tokenization as Apple Pay (which Apple didn’t invent, and is actually from EMVco).

It's just as secure as Apple Pay.
Uses the same tokenization process for each transaction.
Both Apple Pay and Samsung Pay use hardware security (hardware based secure elements).

What everyone should do is fill up a shopping trolley full of stuff then go through the checkout and after the cashier has scanned everything say you don’t have your wallet and say you will pay with Apple Pay then when they say we don’t accept it just walk out and leave everything at the checkout.

Someone would have to be practically holding their phone against mine to snoop it.
The transmission range is less than 2 inches.
And the card data that is transmitted is the same one used for NFC transactions. My real card number is never transmitted.

Seriously, you guys bashing Samsung Pay really need to read up on how it works.
Hint... the same way Apple Pay does.

“Pretty sure I can make a user experience better than Apple”
- People, about to fail, pretty much forever.

Being a dick to hourly workers is hardly a constructive approach. What I did was to gather my AMEX statements for the past 12 months (online), filter all Target purchases, generate a total, and then email their corporate office pointing out that that revenue would no longer be directed to them so long as this is their policy. Cost me maybe 3 minutes.

If thousands of Apple Pay users did this it might have an impact.

Target:
  1. Apply to REDcard.
  2. Wait for REDcard to arrive in the mail then activate.
  3. Open the Target app and click "wallet", then "add payment", then "add a REDcard", then "+", then fill out the form.
  4. At the store, open the Target ap, click "wallet", then aim the phone carefully at the barcode scanner.
Apple Pay:
  1. Add any of the existing credit card to Wallet app by clicking "+" on the Wallet app then fill out the form.
  2. At the store, double click to open the Wallet app and place the phone near the payment terminal and use FaceID, TouchID to authorize.

Ha, that's quite a stretch to include applying for the REDcard and adding it to the Target app as 3/4 of the steps required.

I enjoy using the best payment system out there. Cash. It saves money many times as well. There are discounts available out there for people who pay in cash. You just have to find them. Mom and pop shops and restaurant owners hate the transaction fees and many will give you a discount if you pay in cash. I wouldn’t use it for a major purchase but for the day to day stuff with local businesses I use cash.

Maybe for people that lack self-control, but for those of us that can manage credit it's actually beneficial to use them for the cash back and the 5% discount at stores like Target and Lowe's.

I always love how people that get in trouble with credit cards assume everyone has the same issues. I get thousands of dollars back from cards every year--buys me a new Mac, usually.

Get a handful of the right credit cards and you get a discount every time in the form of cash back, without even having to ask.

This is a non-starter. I don't want 30 ways to pay for stuff depending on the store. I want one simple solution. This almost makes me regret shopping at Target earlier tonight. However, there is nothing that they or any other store can do or offer that will ever convince me to pay through a proprietary app. Apple Pay, Google Pay or my debit or credit card, or cash if I actually have it.

That does not sound faster than double clicking my Apple Watch and then holding it up to the reader. I still get comments from people in line when I use Apple Pay, impressed at how quick it is.
Im also impressed with how fast my Apple Watch is when I use Apple Pay.

On Thanksgiving I bought a iPad from Target (at a amazing price) and used Apple Pay to pay for it in the App. I know that they don't read what we post here, but they should know I will never use this. I won't do it at CVS, I won't do it at Wal-Mart and I am not going to do it at Target. In fact for major Target purchases from now on, I will buy in the app and pick up in store (or I will make them ship it to me for free) , that way I can Apple Pay.
Oh and I do not want a Red Card, even IF you give me 5% off.

Note: After I wrote this I got mad. So I looked on the Target web site and it said to call guest services if you had a issue with an in store experience. So I did. I told them basically what I wrote in my post about my great experience buying my iPad in the app and how I wanted the same thing to be possible in store, I told them I will not use this new thing and I don't ever want a Red Card and that I resent them trying to force me to have one . They documented all of this in an email and sent it off to management. They provided me with a case number and said that a member of the management team would follow up with me and took my contact info for that purpose. We will see if any of that happens, but at least I have called and made my points and desires clear.

when are these companies going to realize that these other "alternatives" are broken and clunky experiences? Also, if you're worried about getting your discounts, just scan with Target app and when you insert the chip of Target card, it automatically applies the discounts.
They know their way is worse - their way just makes them more money so they don't care if it's worse. Using their own payment platform reduces or eliminates the transaction fees they have to pay to Visa/MC/Amex/Discover/Apple and it allows them to track sales information to every individual and sell that information to other companies and use it to advertise to you directly since they know your spending habits.

I need help, and don't know how to use this site...

So I bought a macbook off a guy on craigslist, and I guess somehow my iphone ended up syncing all his contacts off the laptop that he owned, or something like that. Long story short, I have all these random contacts on my phone that I dont want. How do i get rid of them without deleting one by one...

Thank you in advance...
