True about the press release, but the Apple website did have HSBC on as a launch partner on the list of banks on the Apple website. Now they have changed HSBC to 'Coming Soon'. So either Apple have messed up with the details, or HSBC have messed up with the implementation here.

Do people not remember the exact words that HSBC used in one of their press releases? "HSBC...will offer Apple Pay...soon after it launches in the UK." It isn't going live today.
Confirmed by the Apple Pay page on Apple's website right here: http://www.apple.com/uk/apple-pay/.
Here's the press release from HSBC: http://www.about.hsbc.co.uk/~/media.../hsbc-and-first-direct-apple-pay.pdf?la=en-gb

Have added my Amex and MBNA card and managed to pay on DLR with my watch. The guard was even able to check that I had paid by holding his card reader to my watch. That was cool.

So you tap in with your watch and tap out and it calculates your journey and charges your card? You don't need an app open?

Just used apple pay on tfl! Ok experience but for the buses it's still easier to just throw a chip and pin card on the reader!

Just added my Amex card in without an issue, but my First Direct cards are a no go.

It's a real shame they've dropped of of the Day 1 partners, but I know this will absolutely be an HSBC thing and not an FD one (FD are part of HSBC).

[Edit] - Also just had a "Welcome to Apple Pay" email from Apple.

Still getting "Your issuer does not yet offer support for this card" when trying to add my RBS visa debit card!

I thought MBNA were not in the first wave but my MasterCard just added fine to both watch and phone. Also Natwest debit added. Must now go and look like a tit in the co-op trying to pay for some bread with my watch.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news for HSBC/FirstDirect card holders but it doesn't look like they've made the launch.
Hopefully it wasn't to spite them for that careless tweet on Sunday! 'Cos to spite them would be to spite me! Ah well, good job I've got a Santander 1-2-3 debit card primed and ready to go!!! :D

Quick question:
Can you have 1 card registered to multiple devices?
Eg. A joint account debit card that the wife & I both use?

Amex and Santander 123 Debit successfully added to both iPhone (9 beta 3) and Watch (1.0.1, I think, not os2 anyway...), now looking forward to trying them out later in the day!!

Shocking performance from such a major bank. I'm hoping its just tech / server issues. What a disappointment, HSBC I'm going to switch banks today just to spite you for ruining Apple Pay launch day! :(:(:(:(:(:(
Wow. That fickle? You’d switch banks for a reason you don’t yet know about?

That's the British humour you Americans still don't seem to get! Or if you're not American just uptight!

Banks aren't for life anymore and actually in the UK, Nationwide are a building society with more benefits for customers. So yes actually, we can be fickle with our banks, when a multi-trillion pound institution can't offer us something we want in line with it's competitors.
