I hate to be the bearer of bad news for HSBC/FirstDirect card holders but it doesn't look like they've made the launch.

That's what I'm seeing too. Apple have also updated their web page to put both HSBC and First Direct as coming soon. Way to build expectations and then take a royal dump on them HSBC. They've got 4 weeks, after that all accounts, credit cards and mortgage are moving. HSBC have let me down too much recently, this will be the final straw for me.

Just added my AMEX card on the UK region setting so all is good - all easy. Look forward to using it. Will need a secondary card though, as not everyone accepts Amex.

Just appeared in Passbook in the UK after 6am (UK region settings, not US as some people had changed it to overnight)

Apple's official Apple Pay page at http://www.apple.com/uk/apple-pay shows that HSBC has dropped back to a "Coming Soon" bank instead of one of the initial launch names...

Do people not remember the exact words that HSBC used in one of their press releases? "HSBC...will offer Apple Pay...soon after it launches in the UK." It isn't going live today.
Confirmed by the Apple Pay page on Apple's website right here: http://www.apple.com/uk/apple-pay/.

Is it really unreasonable for people with HSBC accounts to expect them to be in the first wave when they were listed on the apple page as a participating bank and NOT in the "others" section. Piss poor communication from HSBC if this was always going to be the case.

Argos were also previously one of the "Apple Pay in Apps" examples, but now appear to have been replaced with another app, and no longer listed on the Apps section on the "Where to use Apple Pay".

Interesting that HSBC have their brand right at the front of the examples!

It's a superb marketing balls up by HSBC. If they had been clear they were going to participate but not in the first wave, most people would have put it down to prudence and their desire to test the I.T side more. By dropping out at the last minute they just come over as an organisation that can't deliver, which isn't really what you want for a Bank!

You are right of course. It does say soon after: a wonderfully vague word that could mean within hours, weeks or even a couple of months. HSBC appear to have been allowing their logo to headline much of the marketing and only recently have they been downgraded on Apple's website. This strongly implies that they are not living up to the expectations they gave apple. Once again HSBC is behind in their service offering. It pains me that they have me over a barrel because I have insanely low mortgage rates with them as a result of being in the right place at the right time. I would move in a heartbeat otherwise. Not because of apple pay by the way (I can't see why it is better than contactless just yet).
