This is such a poor video of choice, MR. Please replace asap.

First of all it's awkward as hell, and secondly they messed up the whole process anyway.

It's not about speed, people. For those of us who don't like to carry a lot of cash, it's about security. As a victim of identity theft (twice) I'm more than excited to have :apple:Pay.

Very true. It will also be faster for me. Just wave phone that I carrying hand anyway.

Do you guys not have tap-to-pay over there? I have my iphone in a wallet case, and credit card in the slot of the wallet. To pay for a McDonald's, or groceries or whatever, I just take my wallet out of my pocket, touch the corner of it on the machine, and put it back in my pocket. Total two seconds. This looked like a complete farce.

In the US do you still have to put your card in the machine and type a PIN?

First we see it featured at the famous parisian boutique Collette, then on the cover of Vouge China, and now this!

I don't carry around a lot of cash, which is why I carry around a credit card. It takes me less than 10 seconds to remove it from my pocket and press it against the sensor for immediate payment.

The best part? You don't need an iPhone to use it...

I have yet to meet a single cashier that can remember my full name from a cursory glance, never mind the 16 digit number. Even if Apple Pay was available in Canada, I'd still use my credit card -- just as secure, and a heck of a lot quicker.

I love the expression on that order taker's face! Combination of playing along with this experiment and sort of interested in what is going on.

I went out for a bicycle ride today without my wallet and no cash. Just me, my bike, and my phone. Stopped at a vending machine and purchased a drink with Apple Pay. It was quite liberating.

What vending machines support Apple Pay? Can any store/machine/etc that supports payments via NFC use Apple Pay? I thought the retailer also has to do something in their internal system to accept the Apple Pay transaction? Am I misunderstanding?

Not a very good demo. I bought some razors at Walgreens not long ago using ApplePay. Was very quick. As soon as I touched the button it was done.

For me, it's more about having access to my payment methods without carrying around the cards than it is the speed of handing over cash or swiping a card vs. paying with :apple:Pay.

Until phone batteries last indefinitely, apple pay is accepted literally everywhere and my driving licence can be shown and accepted by the authorities via an app, I personally will still have my wallet on me.

Hardly discreet either is it, reaching out with your illuminated phone. I've dropped my credit card on occasion when using it as NFC payment for my lunch. Dropping my phone doing the same would make lunch considerably more expensive!

What if you have multiple credit cards? You can't just tap your wallet. And no, most cards do not have tap-to-pay or "Pay Pass" as they call it here.

So no, this is not a "farce". Not only that, but do your tap-to-pay cards require a fingerprint for identification in case someone steals your card?... Didn't think so.

In the US do you still have to put your card in the machine and type a PIN?

Yes, the USA is very behind on chip-and-pin technology. Our systems are completely different than most of the world. Chip-and-pin is just rolling out in 2015 here.

You need to remember that the USA is the 3rd largest country in the world, and one of the largest in terms of land area, so the infrastructure takes a LONG time to upgrade here.

You can't judge speed from a cashier's first time accepting Apple Pay. She hadn't pressed the right button. The guy waiting in line wanted to show everything that was happening so much slower than it will be when it becomes routine and nobody is filming it. I know it will be much more convenient for me because i carry my phone in my hand when I'm in stores. YMMV.
