I bet the P2 will be thinner than the original.
I don’t think it would be very ergonomic to hold when they make it even thinner.

Or was this a joke since Sir Ive is so obsessed with making everything thinner, even if the function suffers?

Not in the iMac's current form.

Trackpad would be more likely.

Which really would be all I want. I've been waiting for an Apple "Graphics Tablet" ever since they announced the Pencil. Giving the Pencil Touch and Gestures kinda hinds into that direction, too.

While I doubt we will see something like this just yet (but one can dream, no?), I haven't been this excited for an Apple Event in a long, long time. I'm ready to replace my iPad Mini Gen 1, which I didn't touch for months as it's become annoyingly sluggish.

I find the current Pencil bordering on the "too thin" side, already. So definitely hoping they won't.

A lot of things that will be unveiled tomorrow, next year others will copy paste. Like these ideas for the pencil

Touch sensitive Magic trackpad with an OLED screen that supports Apple Pencil, anyone?

I wouldn't even need an OLED screen (you're thinking Cintiq?). All I want is to replace my Wacom Intuous P&T with something of the style and functionality ala Apple (particularly since Wacom isn't making an entry-level touch-sensitive graphics tablet anymore). Of course they'd gotta make the touchpad bigger, though. I can't imagine scribbling away with a pencil on the touchpad as small as that.

But again, such a no-brainer. You could even transform the iPad into a graphics tablet (there's already an App that kinda let's you do this in-program like a Cintiq...but I use my Wacom as my only input device in lieu of a mouse/touchpad, so I want to be able to use it in the native OS, too)

Magnet is cool again at Apple but refuse to release Magsafe for MacBooks.
The thing I love about USB-C power is the brick isn't permanently fixed to the chord. Also, the magsafe plug always disintegrated in the first 6 months. My USB-C plug is still perfect and if anything happens, all I have to do is buy a new cable, not the whole power supply.

The same thing with the glowing apple that always shown through the front side of the screen if your computer is facing the sun. It's better without it.

Mine never disintegrated with two Macbooks over the course of 10 years. Maybe you should treat your things better.

And being nostalgic, I do miss the glowing Apple. But I do miss white iMacs/Macbooks, too, so there's that.

No, rather the new iPad Pro having the ability to connect to a Mac by usb-c and use it the same way as a waicom drawing tablet.

Look into AstroPad. I just recently learnt about it myself and while it's intriguing, it's not quite what >I< want. But might be for others.

But yes, I absolutely agree. Being able to use the iPad as a graphics tablet on the Mac like a Wacom would be THE dream!

So the smart connector has one more job to do besides smart keyboard, charging the pencil

The new features will be great but I don't use my Pencil that often. Wouldn't mind using the gen 1 a bit longer and just charger externally. Hoping it will still be compatible...

Since the butt end is no longer a removable cap/charge point, I hope you can flip the pencil upside down and use that end as an eraser.

I really don't understand people's need for this. When I was in primary school, I would have preferred to have simply touched an erase icon, or gestured on the pencil to erase something, rather than stop and change my entire workflow to flip the pencil over, then flip it back. But the technology didn't exist then. It does today.

If they are doing this only wireless via a magnet etc stuff then it won’t be compatible with the older iPads. And frankly I dont see them doing it like that for just that reason. There are folks that still have functioning iPad Pros under 2 years plus the iPad 2018 that might want to use this new Pencil for its fancy new features that will only need software updates to work on older hardware.

The only hiccup would be the charging. it would be silly for Apple to cut those folks off when they could just keep the lightning port (which would also be useful for customers that end up with a bum pencil that stops wirelessly charging but the next appointment at their local apple store is a week ago, which happens a lot, or the store has to order the pencil, which also probably happens a lot).

As for the whole ‘but then I can’t flip it over and use the cap as an eraser’, they can have a tap or gesture on the new pencil that switches it. Probably more useful anyway since the tip is a much finer point than the cap

Of course it can be compatible with older iPads if they go full wireless charging. You'll just need an adapter for it. However, the new features aren't likely to function with an older iPad, knowing Apple, but I would still chose the latest Pencil to avoid early obsolescence in the event I were to upgrade my iPad.

Pencil better have off switch this time around.

I agree. I left the Pencil on my desk for a week motionless. And when I went to use it this morning, found it had almost no battery left. How did it eat through a full charge just sitting there?

What if the pencil charges when magnetically attached to the iPad?

Edit: just saw the patent in the comment above mine :) Makes sense! Super excited.
