Yeah the design is neat, but I don't like the fact that there is cut content on the rounded corners. If you watch a movie or play a game that's fitted to an ipad screen, you're going to miss a small amount of content. This sucks. Style over function, that's the way it goes with Apple these days it seems...

Yeah, it’s cut content. They’re gonna sell you back those corners as DLC

This rumor clearly suggests that the cap will not be detachable and the only charging option will be the wireless one.
BT pairing, no metal band, no seam near the top in the pic all point to that.
So no adapters. AirPower mat is almost certainly not coming any time soon and even if it does having it as the only charging method for those with older ipads is not a viable option.

Yes, and?

We don't know there won't be a smart connector on the Pencil. In which case, Lightning to Smart Connector. Also, I mention the AirPower mat in general ... there are plenty of QI chargers on the market for the iPhone, so yes, even a Qi mat charger made by anyone, or simply a Qi magnetic adapter designed especially for the Pencil.

And just because having a Qi charger for you just for the older iPads is not a viable option, doesn't mean it is for everyone. So I stand by my previous statement. You want to use Apple's latest tech with older devices? There's probably going to be a way in this case. It might not be your first choice, but a way nevertheless. Apple never promises they're going to support old devices with new technology anyway, so I'm not sure what the problem is here? If Apple didn't support it at all on older devices, I wouldn't be surprised. But chances are there's a way to use it in this case if someone really wants those new features without upgrading their existing iPad. And that way may be buying a Qi charging mat, which is an investment in the future of Apple products which will be Qi compatible, not just an excessive one-off purchase just to charge a pencil.

Magnetic attachment and induction charging would be amazing additions, as would an "eraser" on the back end of it. My Wacom tablet styli had that feature for years, and it was incredibly useful.

At what point do you think Apple will merge iOS and macOS? I ask because it seems every year the IOS devices get more powerful.

I postponed Apple Pencil order for 2 months to get Apple Pencil 2 for the low cost iPad 2018... I hope it will be compatible.

But everyone on here keeps telling me that it's better to erase by removing a shoe and using a spare toe, or triple tapping while dragging your tongue across the screen, or staring intently at the content to be erased and hoping the eraser fairy comes along and takes care of it.

You can laugh all you want on his comment, but he does have a point - one I've pointed out before, myself. Not so much for playing games, but most certainly for editing photos.
Okay you have a point there. I laughed at the idea of missing content while consuming media.

Much easier to press “E” or hold down a finger on the screen.....never been a fan of turning around the tool to erase, it takes way longer

I never found utilization for the original Apple Pencil, but if they make some significant changes with version two, I might consider it, I just want to make sure that it will offer some enticing new capabilities for the price tag of likely $99 or more. Most likely I would use it for notetaking, but I’m not much of a sketcher in that respect.

IPads used to be the cheaper alternative to computers. Now, iPads cost as much as computers. So what’s the point of having an iPad?

While Apple's angle is: what's the point of having a computer (aka Macbook)" for most people.

Apple would be happy to sell most people a Mac—Macs are $499 to over $13,000—but most people don’t want to buy a Mac anymore. iPad outsells them >2:1. iPad maxes out at $1,279, so I’m sure they’d rather you bought a Mac.

But if you want an iPad instead of a Mac, Apple will gladly sell you one, whether an entry level $329 model or a maxed out 12.9” iPad Pro for $1,279.

Of course they’re also happy to sell you both :) Either one or both, Apple’s going to be happy no matter what.

Now with a great Apple Pencil I would like to see Apple bring back system wide hand-writing to text recognition.

I already commented on that other thread, I use both, they actually complement each other for me. But those whobuy a Mac for a $13k are in no way in the market for an iPad as an alternative, nor are the people for whom an iPad is sufficient as their only computing device in the market for a $13k Mac. This comparison doesn't even make sense - different niches.

However, for a whole lot of people, the iPad Pro, even standard iPad, is more than enough and can sufficiently replace a computer. They're not gonna buy both.

I wasn’t implying an iPad could replace a $13,000 Mac. My point is Apple would make a lot more profit if people would by Macs instead of iPads.

Some posters here (not you) are pushing a lie that Apple—usually they’ll say Cook—only cares about iOS devices and “hates” the Mac. Which is ridiculous, because those same people will tell you Apple (aka Cook the bean counter) only cares about profits. Which of course would mean he’d love the Mac and hate the iPad that’s cannibalizing its sales.

The reality is Apple is ok with you buying a Mac and/or iPad. If you’re going to buy a desktop or notebook computer, they want it to be a Mac. And if you’re going to buy a tablet computer, they want it to be an iPad. It’s really that simple.
