That was quick. Bought an iPad Pro 9.7 Thursday and already rumors of the next one.
You should have bought it 2 weeks ago when BestBuy sold them for $375 +tax (base model).

How sad you can't buy, you should apply as a Samsung shills, they pay good just commenting online forums.
Is it still popular sitting in Starbucks with Apple gizmos?

Not every Best Buy offers the same pricing or sale prices. My local Best Buy did not have that offer two weeks ago for the base model.

I haven't touched the one I bought in 2010 in a good 3 years because it's just not that useful when you have an iPhone and a Mac.

Depends what you do with it. I got both, iMac and iPad. I rarely use iMac (only for Final Cut Pro x, Photoshop and Adobe Aftereffects) But I use iPad all the time to browse internet, check emails, use different apps etc.

Dropping the iPad mini sounds like a pity to me.
I do not have one, but several of my colleagues do, and the format seems to make it so much easier to slide in an auxiliary pocket of their favorite bag. My iPad Air always needs to go in the main compartment of whatever bag I carry. Not so convenient. The mini also is a great format to use in crowded environments (metros, buses, street, etc) to check a map, look up an address or a todo list. The iPad Air not so much.

Before people go off on one saying how many different sized devices Apple now/will offer I'm just going to leave this image here...

(That's EVERY device that runs Android.)

And for people saying it's four years old, go figure, it'll be worse now.

Why have a 9.7" and a 10.5" model? BTW, isn't 10" the limit where MS Office is no longer free?

Also, a lot of people find that the mini is the best size for reading in bed.

I use an iPad mini 2 from time to time and it's a great device. iPad mini 4 is a design classic in my opinion. Don't really see a reason to upgrade at this point though, if I did though it would most likely be another mini. Maybe some super features might persuade me, but its ultra compact size makes it useful for carrying from meetings, reading, web browsing and editing documents.

How I wish the new iPad pro would be able to run Mac Os...I love the fact that I can use a stylus with it as I do digital art, but most of the software I use run on Mac only..like a Microsoft surface but Mac...

The 17" macbooks were beasts back in the day. However, they only catered to the minority, which in Apple's world isn't profitable unfortunately.

I think that's kinda what MH01 is getting at, the iPads are appealing to an increasingly shrinking demographic and the Pro versions appear to have only some semblance of popularity in the business sector, yet Apple has no issue pumping money into the iPad lines even if it's nowhere near as profitable as it used to be. So why not bring back the 17 inch MacBooks while they're at it? Even if it only appeals to a minority of users, at least it'll be incredibly useful to that minority and would probably enjoy way more success in the business sector, particularly amongst industry creatives who will get more use out of it than giant tablet with limited functionality for their needs.

This just goes to show that Apple doesn't seem to understand what they're doing lately. Three different iPads whose sole differentiators are really small variations in size, is this really what consumers need or want? This is the sort of nonsense that nearly drove Apple to bankruptcy in the first place.

I've always been a laptop person, I've just never seen the appeal of a tablet. I currently own an iPad 2 and iPad Mini 2 but my kids use them, I hardly touch them. For me the Mac apps are far superior to the iOS apps.

What is the meaning of this image? Market share for each device?

17" laptops overall are becoming more rare. I have two at my store - both over 1000$. Some people, just assured their eye sight is SOOOOO bad that that extra inch on each side will make it better they'll drop 4-500$ more just to have it.

If you think this only happens in the PC world, I assure you, there are people who buy the 15 MBP when all they need is an air simply because of size.

I'd support a bigger MBP but I'd like them to decouple size and performance.

My ideal matrix would be

Macbook 12" (256 and 512) - the MBr is fine, it's recent and the storage amounts are good. This computer is sold to a specific sort.
Macbook Air 13" (256) (This is the value Mac laptop, with previous-gen processors and slower storage, and a less good screen, but at an affordable price. I honestly think it could be swung for <1000$)
Macbook Pro 13 (i5 256, i5 512 and i7 512) (the 13" is a big sweet spot, so give it more options. Going to an i7 gives more than just a storage difference between them)
Macbook Pro 15 (i5 256 and i7 512) (many people who just buy for the size will do fine with an i5, allowing a lower price)
Macbook Pro 17 (i5 256 and i7 512) (same as the 15")

Other storage options can be CTO.

What?! Which ass did they pull this infomation out from? And why even stop there? Why not add 11.2", 6.6", 8.4"? For every pocket or bag the fitting iPad!
Maybe measuring tape will give us the option to customize our screens.......

'Oh yeah" - mr. Kool aid man.

Bit of a sketchy rumour that one. I don't think Apple normally like to have so many variations. That said, it does look like we'll be getting 3 models of iPhone this time.

Wouldn't worry about the iPad Mini - there have always been a large group of people who don't feel the need for one themselves, who have been using their personal lack of interest to predict its discontinuation since day 1. It's now on its 4th revision.

Meanwhile, another day rolls by of wondering if/when they'll be bringing out that rumoured MacBook Pro update. Keep getting mixed messages regarding the Mac. On the one hand, the rumoured update sounds pretty good, and we know they're doing Sierra. On the other, we know (as Tim Cook said) that the average Joe has no need for them because they can already do Facebook and online ordering from the iPad, and the 'power user' audience is being steered towards the iPad Pro (with the new non-pro MacBook being almost like a hybrid / stepping stone). Macs are in the same kind of market as Aperture was: nerds. People Apple doesn't care about, and would rather hand over to someone else like Adobe or in this case Microsoft.

Personally, maybe it's just me but I think tablets are the biggest tech anomaly in our history. They serve a purpose, but replacing traditional computing isn't it. The iPad had explosive popularity because it was made by Apple during the peak of their existence, and the entire computing industry (including Apple themselves) got caught off guard with dollar signs in their eyes and have been focused on trying to replicate that success ever since, at the great expense of desktop/laptop computing. Windows suffered from it with the abominations that were 8 and 8.1, Linux suffered from it with GNOME trying to be iOS and Ubuntu trying (and failing) to jump onto the touchscreen gold rush. Now it's all in a right state.

iPad Pro 10.5 will replace the 9.7 pro.
It will have trimmed bezels to keep the physical size in check. Same will happen for the new 12.9 inch iPad Pro 2.
They will release an updated 9.7 inch regular/" budget" iPad , called the iPad SE.
iPad mini will be dropped in 2017 because of the release of an even bigger 5.8 inch(or even bigger) iPhone pro in 2017 with new design and oled , with almost no bezels.

Anyway, that is my guess...
