Is it still popular sitting in Starbucks with Apple gizmos?

People would sit in Coffee shops with their Apple laptops because until recently they were the only company making laptops with battery that lasted long enough and devices light and portable enough to be able to use them in such locations with ease. I know i would not have done that in say 2008/9 with any of my Windows based laptops, battery maybe 2 hours at a push and so heavy and bulky.

So why not bring back the 17 inch MacBooks while they're at it? Even if it only appeals to a minority of users, at least it'll be incredibly useful to that minority and would probably enjoy way more success in the business sector, particularly amongst industry creatives who will get more use out of it than giant tablet with limited functionality for their needs.
Bringing back the 17" MacBook Pro would break their longstanding policy of making nothing I want to buy.

Did you even read the article?

The iPad mini probably will go, as most people will be contempt between the largest iPhone and the smallest and cheapest iPad.

Used mine all day, what now?

Use my ipad 3 every day...

The problem with pushing the plus phones as iPad mini replacements is that they don't run iPad versions of apps and no-one has actually written anything to take advantage of the plus screen.

Dropping the iPad mini sounds like a pity to me.
I do not have one, but several of my colleagues do, and the format seems to make it so much easier to slide in an auxiliary pocket of their favorite bag. My iPad Air always needs to go in the main compartment of whatever bag I carry. Not so convenient. The mini also is a great format to use in crowded environments (metros, buses, street, etc) to check a map, look up an address or a todo list. The iPad Air not so much.
The 6s plus can do those things well enough. And there's not much difference in screen size when your watching a video due to most videos being 16:9. And it's more convenient to carry around.

Having said that, the mini is a better browser and ebooks reader due to the aspect ratio.

I don't care what sizes they have but they need to make the iPad Pro a lot better. If they really just change the screen and cosmetics, but fail to make fundamental improvements, it's a soon to be dead product line. I own 3 iPads, and would love the pro to become a lot more robust and actually compete with my MacBook.

Noted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has released a new research report outlining his expectations for the future of Apple's iPad lineup, predicting three new iPads ranging from 9.7 inches to 12.9 inches to be released in 2017.

According to Kuo, Apple is aiming to introduce a new 10.5-inch iPad Pro model next year to go along with a 12.9-inch iPad Pro 2 and a "low-cost" 9.7-inch iPad model. Kuo makes no mention about the fate of the current 7.9-inch iPad mini, although many have assumed that model may be phased out as the recent 5.5-inch iPhone "Plus" models have helped lessen demand for Apple's smallest tablet.Looking even further ahead, Kuo predicts "revolutionary" changes for the iPad lineup for 2018 "at the earliest," with Apple making "radical" changes to the iPad's design and shifting to an AMOLED display.Kuo remains conservative in his predictions of iPad shipments, cutting his total 2016 shipment forecast from 45-50 million to 35-40 million due in large part to a lack of new models before the end of the year. Even with updated models in 2017, however, Kuo predicts shipments will continue to decline as part of general trends in the tablet market.

I know. There is always one Forum member that says in reply to an article that "Steve Jobs must be Rolling in his grave." Or "If Steve Jobs were alive, this never would have happened." It's a slightly over-used quote on Macrumors.
I mean, your response reads as if you took the person at their word. Which is why I mentioned it...

We use 7.85" iPad Mini (A5) daily for reading and net surfing. 9.7" is too heavy for hours reading session. 5.5" iPhone screen is too small. And we prefer 4" phones anyway. So, if Mini goes, Apple goes.

10.5" sounds logical, it differentiates Pro line from Classic iPad.

Am I the only one that want a Mac OS iPad???
Yes. Yes you are. There are times when I wouldn't mind a consumer-level (vs. developer) iPad simulator for OS X. But OS X really needs a full-time hardware keyboard and a trackpad under my thumb. Writing code on a virtual keyboard is no fun (well, it's fun that you can debug Python in line at the grocery store, but a real keyboard is still infinitely preferable).

Wait, so no more iPad mini, and the current most popular size the 9.7" is going to be dumbed down to a low cost model making room for the 10.5" pro model? I dunno. This sounds kinda weird.

I think they're contractually obligated to make sure that "Pro" doesn't actually mean anything.

Apple is definitely investing in the 'Pro' moniker in the iPad. This must be their way of ultimately wanting the customer to transfer from PC's/Laptops to the different models of the iPad, which offer a size/variation for everyone.

IMO, I would never use an iPad as a replacement for my main computer. Never going to happen in this household.
