But if the next iPhone has OLED, you'll buy it anyway. And you know Displaymate is biased but you don't know why. Priceless. I'm sure if they said the iPhone had the best display they wouldn't be biased.
We both know perfectly well the reasons for this questions, but I'm not looking for another suspension to point out the presence of a resident community of haters here... So support the brand you love more, I don't care

Yes, I'll buy another iPhone even if it use an OLED. I won't be so happy about it, but I'll buy it because it is so superior to any android device (because of android itself...) and because I invested on Apple's ecosystem quite a lot.
YES, I know DisplayMate are biased, it was pointed out several times in the last two years. What I don't know are their motivations, but I don't really care. Someone defining a PenTile matrix as "the best on the market", well, it's enough to me.

They are balancing factors.
Most, in not all, of the android phones are throttling like mads because manufacturers aren't balancing factors. They just keep pumping up specs, version after version.
And, again, Sony is doing the same on their Compact line, that is ABSOLUTELY THE BEST in android world.
Or maybe the Android manufacturers are innovating at a fast pace compared to Apple who is standing still in the display department

Sony is a nobody in the Android universe. The Galaxy S5 onwards have been stomping them for years now.The S5 Mini was already vastly superior to the Z3 Compact because of a Super AMOLED display which is superior to LCD

My iPhone 6S still is, by far, the best phone on the market.

That spot has already been usurped by the Galaxy S7 at least until iphone 7 launches,

I don't know the reason why they are biased, but several others pointed out that...

BTW that's not my point.
I'm still not convinced (AT ALL) OLED is the right tech for displays. It have several drawbacks , much more than LCD in my opinion. So I'm not sure I want an OLED panel on my next iPhone.

The concept behind that isn't a marketing gimmick, but pure physic: there is no point in going above some resolutions on a 4-5" display.

LOL@ Displaymate being biased. They are THE most unbiased display reviewers out there.OLED S7 has THE best display on the planet. There are countless reviews and tech sites stating this fact

Also there is a HUGE difference between 750P and 1440P

Just look how washed out the iphone display looks

Funny thing is the very same OLED display you are dissing is the display to be used on the iPhone in 2018.Ironic huh?

I actually debated keeping my 6+ another year, because it is still a great phone, but OLED could change that decision for me.
I'm having the same thoughts.

Without fail I've pre-ordered every iPhone at each refresh since the original. However a good portion of the reason was the excitement surrounding the upcoming new models and their features.

But now that all Apple seems to have stopped innovating features of any significance, only creating attention grabbing gimmicks, I'm going to stop buying.

OLED is nice but the first year of anything new to Apple they usually have problems with. So I'm going to take a pass and wait until the following model is released.

Or maybe the Android manufacturers are innovating at a fast pace compared to Apple who is standing still in the display department
what you call "innovating" I call "struggling to survive with a lot of useless gimmicks"

Sony is a nobody ? They are one of the few manufacturer able to produce a decent smartphone in android's world...
S5 Mini superior to Z3 Compact ? This alone says a lot about your knowledge of smartphones....

That spot has already been usurped by the Galaxy S7 at least until iphone 7 launches,
says who ? Since Galaxy S7 still runs Android and TouchWiZ, I would buy a Moto G over a Galaxy S7.

what those pictures are supposed to demonstrate ? The reviewer isn't even able to set two devices at the same brightness ?
Actually looking at those pictures I can see more aberrations on the S7 display (just look at the Gmail icon), but it can just be the photo....

Funny thing is the very same OLED display you are dissing is the display to be used on the iPhone in 2018.Ironic huh?
since when you work for Apple ?
No one know when Apple will switch to OLED and no one know if they are going to use Samsung's panels...
Actually the last thing I want on my iPhone is a PenTile matrix panel..

Where was it pointed out that DisplyMate is biased? You keep making the claim, why not show something valid to support it? A few posts ago you claimed they were biased and that you didn't know why.

I don't worship any company and I have a 6S. I know it's hard for you to accept, but other companies move the industry forward besides Apple.

I don't know their motivations (I suppose it's just MONEY), but as I said since Galaxy S5 review people on the net pointed out their biased position towards Samsung...
And any half competent reviewer can't just ignore the PenTile matrix in their review...This alone speaks about their analysis...

Nope. Other companies just try to keep the pace...

About the s5 mini being superior to the Sony compact, that really shows how little technical knowledge you have.

About the superior display of the s7.
Yes,yours is bigger than mine.
Enjoy it! While it lasts....
Apple trounces Samsung in the soc department, in the camera area, iPhone 7 will catch up or improve over the s7, and in 2017 Samsung will have lost the edge in displays. And then? What will Samsung release? 3D Touch? What will be their innovation?

Apart from the screen and price, there is nothing.... They don' t have their own OS and ecosystem. Cheap Chinese manufacturers are catching up, and Samsung will have to be a price fighter in budget segment.
And in innovation? Samsung will have to wait until Google releases a new feature in android, before they can implement them.
A 1440p oled and a smartphone heads trap holder for VR ? Why use Samsung? You can use a much cheaper android in the next 2 years for that... No in a few years, Samsung will have nice smartphones, but really nothing special ....

Overrated. What's the real deal breaker, a bunch of .99 cent apps?
No, it's the integrated environment, which is more important to us than it is to you. It's more important to a lot of people than it is to you. Calling something overrated means that you hold an outlier opinion (rating) that is lower than the average. The more overrated you think something is, the more of an outlier your personal opinion is.

Did you mean your ? Indeed, but don't worry

You know I meant you. :) And we both know it was nonsense. I'm still waiting for the proof that DisplayMate is biased. And also where Apple is the only company on the cutting edge. I see Apple doing quite a bit of following, not just leading.

Just is the keyword here...
Samsung has a better screen.
But that is just a tech evolution.
What is so innovative about the other brands?
Their OS? Oh wait, they get for free from Google.
Getting in as much memory as possible to keep android snappy?
Huge batteries to get decent battery life?
Making their own socs? Or put in a snapdragon soc from a third party?
Lower mp count for better low light photo' s? Oh wait , someone else did that and all what mattered to fandroids was the count of mp' s!

Did the others develop the first 64 bit soc?
Did the others mass produce a fingerprint reader in a smartphone that just works?
Did the others produce a pressure sensitive screen in masses that just works?
Do the others update 4 year old phones?

You can bash Apple and the iPhone , but they lead and push the smartphone market.
Samsung perfects current tech, and they do a good job.
But new features and software implementation and support? Now, just a good production and development company. Nothing more....
They want to be called innovative. That is part of their marketing. But they are not...

Apple is also not what they used to be, seems too focused on profits , margins, asp' s.
Let' s hope they get their act together in time.

Do you guys have adjacent cubicles?

Meh, Sammys have had OLED for ages and there is a chance of burn-in for static elements on the screen, also the pixels are organic and degrade over time vs. LCDs. I feel like this is repackaging sammy phones, calling it "super retina HD" and doubling the price. I mean I'd like to have an OLED screen but I feel like Apple wants to hang onto higher profit margins for as long as it can rather than innovate, we should have had it years ago, just like 32gb better be default lowest memory choice on all future iphones and we forget there is such a thing called a 5400 rpm drive on an apple computer.

As long as its uniform sub-pixels and color accurate, I don't care.

WQHD is barely enough resolution for me not to notice the non-uniform sub-pixels on Samsung screens and the inaccurate color can be seen from 10 feet.

You can find by yourself.
Since they consider "the best display on the market" a panel with a PenTile matrix and a color accuracy that will degrade over the time for the inherently wearing of sub pixels on OLED displays, well, that's enough proof for me.
And , again, yes I'm absolutely convinced Apple is the only company on the cutting edge here. They did mistakes, for sure, but they have the best overall product.

Does this mean we'll finally get a good redesign for iOS? I hope so...
That's for sure.
With white backgrounds an OLED panel would consumes twice an LCD.

Then they won't use a Samsung panel, since Samsung use PenTile matrix that is a shame. Samsung boosted up resolution to cover this flaw, but I don't think this is an efficient solution, especially on a 4.7" display.
Color accuracy? When it's brand new.... On an OLED panel sub pixels wears out in a different time depending on their color, so accuracy will vary.
Burn in effect is still present, and power efficiency on bright backgrounds isn't great.
So it's not a win win solution. It has drawbacks and I'd like them to use a more advanced lcd instead.

I wonder, who is this "us" that you're speaking of? Are you the voice of all Apple consumers everywhere? Please. To me, it sounds more like "you" trying to defend your opinion. For clarification, I've been an iPhone owner since the 3GS model. As a result I own hundreds of paid apps with IAPs and have invested heavily in iTunes-purchased media. If ever I had to walk away from Apple's ecosphere and jump to another brand/platform, than whatever. (I have more important things to worry about than my level 300 Infinity Blade save.) Maybe if I developed Apple apps and content for a living it would be difficult to cut ties, but unsure since it's not my line of work. I just feel people who otherwise cite that they can't leave are being superficial and that the general argument is dramatic and overrated. My personal opinion of course, but doesn't invalidate what I'm saying either.

I never claimed to be the voice of all the Apple consumers everywhere. I'm just saying that there has to be a lot of people "overrating" something for you to feel it is overrated. If you didn't think people liked the ecosystem than you do, you wouldn't use that word.

Very few people say "sand in the armpits is overrated". They only use that word about things that they think other people like, and that they wish other people liked less.

So when I say "we", I speak for the people who you feel are "overrating" Apple's integrated ecosystem. And since you CAN'T speak for us, the idea that we are being superficial is one that exists only in your head; you're claiming to know our motivations better than we do ourselves.

what you call "innovating" I call "struggling to survive with a lot of useless gimmicks"

What gimmicks are you referring to? Given Android's worldwide marketshare - don't you think using the phrase "struggling to survive" might be a tad off base. Forget about whether or not they are high end phones or cheaper ones. "Struggling to survive" is purely your bias coming through. And that's ok. But it's not fact, is it?

I'll also suggest that some of Android gimmicks of the past, Apple has since developed. Now perhaps you think they are more elegant - and for some I might agree - but without Android testing the waters, who knows if Apple would have adopted those "gimmicks."

Oh well keep on thinking that then, but you're wrong. I know there are more aspects to a display than just resolution, but a higher resolution makes a difference, there's no two ways about it. You can even tell the difference with Sony's overkill 4k smartphone display vs 1080p

And the jump to 4k and 8k (and I doubt the later will ever happen in mobile devices) will be incremental, its not a WOW factor because the human eye can't see that many pixels.

It all depends on distance.

Put a smartphone in a VR headset holder a couple of inches from your eyes, and you need 1800 PPI to be "retina" if you use Apple's definition.

Exactly what I've been saying. The leap to 4K and 8K isn't going to be for "normal" viewing per se. It's going to be because of what's required for companion devices like VR. I personally can't wait.
