I agree that apple is changing their business model and by doing so has purposely trapped a bunch of us into their ecosystem.

How? Well they used to release products that were ahead of everyoen else, yes they cost more, but they were more advanced and better in all ways. So since they kept doing this over and over it felt as if they would keep on the bleeding edge.

So we all spent a bunch of moneys buying apps and other junk that we felt we would keep because the next apple product will always be more advanced, yes and more expensive, but it was worth the expense because it was ahead of the pack.

Now today apple has changed models, they now release ho hum products that are only barley keeping up with the rest of the market. But are still expensive, so they are just milking their cash cow now.

As soon as ATT has a 720P smartphone my 64 gig 4s is on craigslist. :)

I think Apple should create two iphones, one with a bigger screen and one that keeps the regular 3.5 inch screen. They can keep people happy by having two options instead of one when buying an iphone.

only one way to describe this crap between the different OS, Audi RS5,Nissan GTR and the BMW M5,......RS5..Great car quick,refined,understated=IOS5.....Nissan GTR,faster then all of them, raw, pure power=Android....BMW M5...fast as you like though not as fast as the GTR,refined?..yep to an extent,no bling factor........me I'm a GTR Black edition owner,as well as a RS5...and the wife drives the RS5...say no more...for the thrills of mobile ownership...Android..for conformity...IOS5...for a bit of both M5...

Clearly the OP is suffering from a "grass is greener" effect and wants to take it out on people. Makes me wonder if he has even used an Android device for an extended period of time.

I don't see fancy restaurants changing to be more like McDonald's even though McDonald's has more locations and faster service.

Pearls before swine.

Do you guys think that the reason why Apple isn't switching to Super AMOLED is Steve Jobs' LCD love? :D Samsung can barely produce enough for themselves...

So, stop defending LCD. We all know that if Apple decides to use Super AMOLED, you'll be going crazy about it... What are you going to do with real colors on a PHONE? Are you designing something or what? Oh, I'm sorry, it is a big deal to see birds in real color.

lol so many Apple fanboys here.

The OP is right.
It would be awesome if Apple can advance their products further by using smaller transistors, putting in a larger screen and support for faster data speeds.

Hardware-wise, Iphone has been lagging behind the competitors lately.
As a whole package, the iphone is still ok and top or near the top, but competitors are catching up fast, real fast.

Hardware? Still faster than most phones now.

iPhone doesn't need to win the specs war because it uses an integrated operating system custom-designed for the device. Get it? Macintosh is the same way. The OS isn't bloated to accommodate vast variations in hardware, and so it is able to do more with less in terms of specs and performance.

Oh come on! That is an old argument... That's merely because PC producers use crappy batteries, hard drives, screens, etc... We all know that on the same Mac, Windows offers identical, if not better, battery life and identical performance.

In the mobile industry, argument is more valid but only against Android. It is not optimized at all. On the other hand, look at Windows Phone 7. Much faster and slicker than any other operating system with half the specs.

Apple fanboys really need to look around once in a while. It isn't 2007 anymore. (Writing from a 2011 Macbook Air)

I really don't understand this "Apple trapped us cuz we bought lots of apps etc etc". What the heck are you expecting? To get a gift certificate for the Apps you bought to use in the Android market? You paid app developers for their tools on a certain platform. You switched to another? Too bad. This isn't in ANY way Apple's fault. In fact, it isn't the fault of anyone. It is like buying a hammer then complaining that you now need to buy a screwdriver.

This whole thread including the OP is nothing but bizarro whining about NOTHING. He keeps on making up these weird assumption about how AMOLED is better and how 4" is better. What the hell are you basing that crap on? This product is being used by millions and millions and millions. You have zero clue what it is to develop a product that people use almost every minute of their lives.

Tim Cook can gain everyones confidence if the next Iphone is well done.

Who said that Cook doesn't have anybody's confidence? He has been directing Apple for a year or even more now (even did a good job at the last keynote despite knowing that Jobs were dying at the very same time), they wouldn't promote him if he didn't have the confidence in the first place from Jobs himself.

Jobs were working on the next few years worth of products, so even if Cook did everything perfectly next two years, it'd still be credited to Jobs.

The question is can Cook direct the company well 5 years from now, when Job's influence has faded.

Android, you're so far behind the competition. Stop producing your tablet telephones and switch to a 3.5" screen already. Everyone knows that smaller is better when it comes to mobile devices. Surely the technology exists to make this happen!

LOL.....Android is behind? Um, dont think os. And sorry, 3.5" is too small. I dont need a huge screen but at least bigger than what iPhne has. IMO 4" is perfect....4.3" is ok...beyond that is pushing it.

Do cpu clock speed and ram even matter? Because last time I checked, iOS is the fastest out there. iPhone 4S runs all the apps way better than any Android phone. GPU on 4S is twice faster than the competition and 7X faster than the iphone 4. I sure do wish for a bigger screen than 3.5 in.

I have a Galaxy S2 that has a super amoled plus display on it and it cannot even touch the iPhone 4. Maybe i'm super visual but i love the attention paid to detail on the icons and everything on the iP4 which is thanks to the retina display and the pixel density.

You know just like Microsoft trapped me into their eco system... I bought Microsoft Office for Windows and many other such softwares... And Now I can't get Mac Pro because I am "TRAPPED" into the Microsoft ECO SYSTEM!! Windows should take back the license and give me a copy of Office for MAC free of cost...! What a cunning eco system MS has... I hate that company... Now I need to keep buying Windows till the end of time...!!

;)

It's going to be interesting to see what happens IF Apple decides to go with a bigger Super AMOLED+ screen. I've no doubt people will still buy it...even the people here that are bemoaning the idea...the interesting/entertaining part would be how they justify it to themselves after showing so much opposition to the idea.

So why is your username "iPad 2"?

I GOT THIS ONE GUYS!

Probably because he owns an iPad 2?

Just because you have a wish list and/or criticisms of the iPhone doesn't make you a fandroid....yeeesh! People so friggin' sensitive when it comes to Apple....

Early benchmarks show that the Galaxy Nexus is faster than the 4S at some things, so no, the 4S does not run "all the apps way better than any Android phone".

The 4S still has the faster GPU scores (by quite a fair margin) but even so, most people won't notice a significant difference in GPU performance.

And unfortunately, having already sunk well over a $1000 on Apps and iTunes purchases, I can't leave them for the better phones on the market either.

That was your mistake, Don't tie yourself down to one company. If you don't like their business and design choices, Then change. You are the only one who dictates how difficult that change is.

Right I'm sick of these type of comments. Benchmark test apps are daft. What about real world apps. Are they coded for the nexus specifically? I doubt it so that marginal increase is reduced to zip.

Just enjoy what you have.

OP - if you want a larger/quicker/better phone and still use iTunes, then why not buy an iPod nano for your iTunes music and then get whichever Android phone suits you rather than waiting forever for Apple to develop the exact phone you want? If it matters to you so much then clearly you have to make a decision. Compromise on your device or accept that you'll lsoe your iTunes music until someone manages to develop a way of playing iTunes on Android.

Apple are in the business of making money and at present they seem to be doing rather well at that with the iPhone 4s. By choosing to introduce a single model every year, they are going with what they think is the best balance of usability and performance. They clearly won't be able to please everyone but will no doubt continue to sell in very large numbers.

If you're at work can you not plug the phone in as you're using it so much? After all, you must have very tolerant bosses if you're able to use your phone so much that it only lasts 4-5 hours. I probably use mine too much when at work but it still lasts all day, even when using apps which cane the battery with location services.

Apple is a for profit company, their best interest is producing money for their shareholders. Their products balance user's experience with technology while maximizing revenue.

Using the latest and greatest technology isn't always the most profitable. AMOLED display is nice, but if they can't get enough supplies then its lowers their revenue.

Other manufactures can try out new technologies and be early adopters. Apple will incorporate them when they feel the time is right. Maybe they have something nicer but still developing.
