By the way, to all you guys complaining over the presenter earlier - the guy is Bob Borchers and he's Sr. Director Product Marketing of iPhone at Apple.

I do agree however that the guy who did the Air guided tour should have done it, but it makes sense that the product marketing guy for the device gets to do it.

... an insult to prosumers.

I had to look that word up in Dictionary, and I got several very different definitions:
1 an amateur who purchases equipment with quality or features suitable for professional use: : the magazine is aimed at the prosumer who uses a $10,000 camera to make home movies of his dog.
2 a prospective consumer who is involved in the design, manufacture, or development of a product or service: : a panel of prosumers weighed in on the plans for the new shampoo.
• a person who designs or produces a product for personal use or for sale: : she's a driven prosumer with one idea: to make a better-smelling toothpaste.
• a well-informed and proactive consumer: : prosumers read labels, sometimes obsessively.

ORIGIN blend of professional or producer or proactive and consumer.

You are obviously using the last one ... I like it.

Actually, the vid was 30 minutes and very informative. Really makes my mouth water. I think you guys are overly critical of the presenter. I thought he was very appropriate for the task at hand.

Hi, I've just watched the iPhone 3G guided tour and spotted two little screws at the botom of the phone. I believe a lot of us remember those photos of black plastic 3G iPhone backcovers. So, my guess is: plastic back-cover will be easily replaceable by customer.

That GPS is always stationary. I want to see it move while in a car. If that is always a thing that has to be clicked to give location then there is no point to that GPS. It has to flow with movement and they have yet to really show this in action. Guess we will have to wait and see its real functionality.

It appears to follow your movements. It's clear in the maps demonstration video on their site.

New Apps for iPod touch?

When will I be able to play Super Monkey Ball or that Caveman game on my iPod touch?

I somehow get the impression that all the comments about creepiness are coming from fat sweaty creepy nerds with Cheetos residue on their neck beards and fingers sitting in their parents basement typing away.

In real life, I've noticed the people who spend all of their time talking about how creepy other people are tend to be creepy or ugly themselves and like to pick on average people to make themselves feel better.

How you act can dramatically change how others perceive you. What makes someone ugly to me has more to do with how they treat others rather than their appearance.

This was shown in the keynote wasn't it? Of them driving down lombard street in san francisco... lol. would be kinda pointless if it had GPS but not track where it is.

No.
That guy is pretty creepy.

I seriously doubt in 10 minutes that guy will go into anything that complicated. Those tutorials are so vanilla and useless it's an insult to prosumers.

That's because they aren't geared towards prosumers.....

They want to show how accessible the phone is to the average consumer. Believe it or not, not everything Apple does is geared towards YOUR needs....

Darn- I can't watch it as I'm at work (I guess I shouldn't be on the forums either). Does it mention anything about iphone 2.0 multiple calendar or contact support? I am interested in tapping into my exchange work e-mail and calendars, but I don't want that mingling with my personal data that I have on my iphone now. Up till now, from what apple's announced and leaked firmware shots, it has looked like if you want exchange push calendars or contacts, you can't maintain a separate personal set. Thanks!

I think that's what MobileMe is for.

This video frustrates me.... The dude keeps on saying "The iphone 2 dot 'Oh' software..." IT'S iPHONE 2 POINT ZERO.... 2 POINT ZERO!!!!!!
Where did they find this guy? But I'm pretty sure he's reading from a card... but even though, the car probably says "iPHONE 2.0 SOFTWARE" and he's still saying it wrong... AAAAAAAAAAaaaah!

that is all
thank you

go back to your mum's basement, you dont know what you're talking about. kthxbai.

WTF?? They don't mention GPS turn by turn directions. They only show GPS as tracking where you're located.

The MAPS portion in the full demo still has you hitting the "next" button at junction points.

Yeah. I hope they fix this. I guess it might be a bit of a battery drain but why not track where you are as you travel?
As it is, it's no real step up from the current situation. And in most major cities the current triangulation usually finds me down to the block. It's just the same old thing with a more accurate starting point.

And where's the horizontal keyboard on SMS and mail???

Yes, it follows you, shows this in the video in fact.

What it does not do is give you voice turn by turns. Or traverse your route, it will, however, keep your current position in the center.

3G speed

So I think there must have been some artistic license in there, because those websites loaded up FAST with the 3G connection. I mean, the NY Times loaded up in ~1 sec or so. Surely, it can't be that fast with 3G, correct??

Wow. Stereotype much? I'm sure the many people who've shared the opinion on this thread are just like that.

I'm just so thankful that we have normal people like you on this board with whom we can interact ...

Anyone else see that??

I just noticed that as well! Thank goodness - I won't have to pay for any SMS plan after all. Meebo is okay, but having a dedicated client (especially with the ability to show on the home screen how many messages I have) will be eons beyond Meebo or any other web app for the purpose.

When will I be able to play Super Monkey Ball or that Caveman game on my iPod touch?

Yes, you will. iPod touch should be able to play nearly every App offered in the new App Store (the only applications I don't see working are those requiring GPS or a cell connection)

can they get someone cooler or with more personality to do these things? they really need to change that dorky guy already.
I think they guy is great, there is just something I can't put my finger on about him. Watch his body language when he says you can "tap and tilt" you way though a game. The guy should be doing Paxil commericals. Oh, and notice all though all of Apple's stuff, it is never, ever "the" iPhone. It is iPhone.

Seriously though I think a bubbly person with a gee whiz ain't this great personality is just the thing Apple should stay far away from. Your iPhone is not a toy.
