Uh, the 3G on/off toggle seems a bit buried to me, even though he tries to spin it otherwise.

I always enjoy watching Apple's guided tour videos, but when I saw this one, I couldn't help but make this:

I still don't know what 3G is. Is it just using cell phone signals to get a fast internet connection? Also, if ipod touch ever gets GPS, that'll still work anywhere right? GPS just uses our satellites right?

Simply put, the iPhone 3G runs on the 3G network, which just means that when you're not in a wifi hotspot, you can get speeds that are approaching the speed of wifi. The old iPhone used something called EDGE which was way slower.

If the iPod touch ever gets GPS, it'll work anywhere, but keep in mind you need an internet connection to load the maps from Google maps, incase somebody builds an app that is preloaded with maps (which someone surely will...). iDork 2.0 didn't explain it well?

I'm sure that people will argue with my above answers on how they're not "technically" correct, but that's what it comes down to. 3G on the iPhone will make accessing the internet faster.

Change the guy

That guy is just weird. I thought Apple were interchanging so called 'apple employees' in each video. I don't know why he's been doing them all so far. He doesn't bring across the right image of the iphone in my opinion - he almost puts me off! But the new features look cool.

heres a thought on the 3g issue. my nokia 6120 regularly downloads emails at 3.5g! we have had 3g for a few years though, but i dunno whether its actually 3.5g from the network,or just nokia saying "look how fast we let you download"....hmmmm anyway back OT! (sorry i do ramble and go OT alot!)

i loved the guided tour. ive never used an iPhone so it was great to see some of the ins and outs of it, especially changing the dock, and moving icons around.

but heres a question, how do i get photo's from my iPhone onto my macbook? if the bluetooth doesnt allow file transfer.

Connect the phone to your macbook via the supplied usb cable and then the new photos will appear automatically by default into iphoto as a device like a camera and from there you can download. Bluetooth would be a lot easier though!

I may be dreaming here but earlier on I downloaded and watched the tour it was only on for maybe 15 mins and was about the changes to the phone and the 2.0 update. I just went back on to check something and it seems as if its a new video with the whole "how to use an iphone" thing.
its been a long day someone tell me if i'm right or just a little crazy:confused:

Why did they choose this fugly bozo to do the vid, is this a joke? Even a mockup vid would have chosen a better guy..jesus...

are they then stuck in iPhoto? ive never used and prob never will use iPhoto, i just have all my pics from my phone, camera's,and old pc in various folders.

i really dont understand why apple haven't enabled file sharing with the iPhone, its only a software tweek....and makes things a million times easier!

seems i was not dreaming, thought I'd trashed the first one but I did not, it only lasts for 12 minutes and tells you whats new on the phone and about the software update, the one on the site now is a proper guided tour of the phone like they did last year, maybe thats why a few people on this thread are getting mixed up with the length of it:confused:

No, no, don't despair; you're not going crazy. There are two different videos. One for those who are planning on buying an iPhone for the first time that goes through everything including the basics including how to use the Phone and Internet etc. This video is about 30 minutes long.

The second video is just an update on the new features of the iPhone and 2.0 software which is aimed at existing iPhone customers. This video is about 12 minutes long.

You can switch between the two buy clicking the two links on the Toolbar:

- Guided Tour
- New Features

Hope that helps!

Eagle-eyed Chris! Very interesting and very well pointed out.. Have they had the iPhone 3G fully functional for all this time?

Then again, if you noticed that it reads 9:42AM on the iPhone Clock but it reads something along the lines of 12:32/12:42? Could be different time-zones but hey who can say?

Okay guys, I've just gone and Registered for the pure reason of commenting on you commenting how 'creepy' the presenter for the movie was.

Who cares?

The demo was supposed to get the message across, inform the public of the basic features of the iPhone and not a lot else.

To me, the presenter was clear and precise and I learnt a lot that I didn't know before.

So I guess what I'm saying is haven't you got something better to do than to comment on the attitude and way the presenter portrays himself.

By the way, I'm new here.. so Hi!

The 9:42AM is the standard time that Apple uses on all their iPhone images and video demos. There is actually a value in the SpringBoard plist (SBFakeTime) that when set displays that instead of the real time for just this reason. As far as where 9:42 came from it is approximately the time during the MacWorld 2007 keynote that the iPhone was unveiled.

The 12:32 is just the time that the NYT was updated.

Another fun little Apple and "time of day" number factoid. Look on any Mac box (iMac, MacBook Pro) and the time listed on the screen shot on the box is the version of OS X that it came installed with, ie. 10:53 or 10:46 for 10.5.3 and 10.4.6 respectively.
