Not sure if it's me, but Steve is talking really slowly, pausing a lot and looks like he's momentarily forgetting parts of his speech (he probably has teleprompters but that's what it looks like), like when he's summaring/listing the features of the iPad, he almost stops before saying 'Facetime camera'.

Oh, please! The only reason you're saying that it because of his medical leave. That happens every single Apple keynote...nothing unusual. I'm positive that you forget things too, especially if you're speaking in front of hundreds of people.

A bunch of random observations:

No mention of an open spec to implement Facetime. It was a pretty big deal with the first iPhone 4 presentation, but almost nothing since.

I was using Safari on a Mac and the display went to sleep, twice, that's really bizarre, most video playback apps manage to prevent that, I think regular Quicktime app prevents it. I had to set the sleep interval to an hour.

It's really nice to direct upload video to sharing sites, but I've found that can be slow, hours to upload 8 min of 720p video. I hope the uploading can be done in the background, I'd hate to give up using the device for more than an hour.

It would be nice if there was a good way to get non commercial permission for music. I don't expect that to happen, but seeing the video edit demo, that's a potential problem when you can upload self-edited videos and it's so easy to add music from your personal library. Going through endless unfamiliar tracks can be hard if you're trying to keep it legit with royalty free tracks.

Ive's head tilt is a bit distracting. I think he's done it with every single video released by Apple, one might think that he needs a brace.

I noticed it too. You could use the hot corners to prevent transition to screensaver (I use the top left corner).

You mean captain's chair :)
Interesting how this sat ominously empty before the keynote..

as usual, the stream is pixelated, choppy, and constantly starts and stops (i have a 12 mb dsl connection). apple sucks at the internet.

It played beautifully for me full-screen over my DSL connection.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to get an iPad now. Garage Band looks insanely good, as does iMovie and Pages. This is the way I want to work, by simply grabbing items on the screen and manipulating them as if they were real. The mouse is gradually going the way of the floppy drive.

Just saw the Video and I'm a little worried

It was a great iPad 2 Presentation and I'm one of those people who is really excited about having a portable Garage Band to work out music anywhere i go.

That's great.

But Magnets??? Magnets, the erasers of magnetic encoded data on the surface of a portable device that i might bring near all the other computers I have with Spinning Hard drives in them????

Is this going to turn into the next Antenna Gate. Magnet Gate?

Maybe it's all in their plan to make PC's seem even worse.
Bring a magnet clad iPad 2 into your office next to your PCs and Laptops and after an hour or two they all start crashing and corrupting files.
They must have mentioned that phrase Post PC device at least 20 times.

Magnets! i hate Magnets!!

Am I wrong to be worried here??

Safari

I noticed that while using Chrome. Switching over to Safari full screen looked much much better.

i think their going to create a huge mess with this release. No preorders!? can only order online on the 11th and wait or goto a store after 5pm? wow the crowds at the stores is going to be unbearable. dunno why their not allowing preorders and reserve for in store pickup. seems like they want there to be huge mobs. maybe since the verizon launch was handled so great yet people thought the product failed they probably want it to be a huge scene for this thing.

keynote was great tho. I was super excited to hear steve walked out earlier today so it was great to see it. Garage band looks pretty amazing as well.

Probably doing it because Verizon screwed up Apple's mojo by having such a subpar iPhone launch.

They need this to put Apple back into the media with special launches and big deals and lines and stuff going on...

I had no idea magnets affected ssd and non movable parts. I would find it a safe bet the engineers at apple have some magnetic magical secrets.

Polyurethane vs leather

Funny moment in the whole video is when he is introducing the smart cover and says: there are 2 types, one made of polyurethane which is used to make spacesuits, and the other is made of leather (then he pauses, and you know he had to force himself to not say, "which is used to make cows?")

In case anyone cares.

The stream from Apple's site won't work with PPC Macs.

Is Apple trying to tell me it's time to upgrade my iBook?

Yes, you are wrong. Apple uses a magnetic latch in their laptops and it's in pretty close proximity to the hard drive. Do you hear people complaining about data loss due to the latch magnet? No. The magnets being used for these purposes are not very strong and do not project a strong field. You shouldn't have any issues.

Probably not strong enough to damage spinning drives that's in another device that also has a cover.

My concern is more on what happens to your credit cards and ATM cards if you put them on the cover with magnets?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

So great to see steve out there today. He is such a master with his presentations!!

Loved seeing Steve, I really wish the guy the best even though I have never been a big fan of him personally, no one should have to endure what he has.

I do like the new iPad, but the cover... it just seems like really weak design. It just is not up to par with the device itself. It needed to be sleek and instead of the raised/lowered regions it should have been smooth and solid looking. The HDMI dongle is a bit wonky as well.

This is the closest I've been to wanting one, but until I can run (even just select ones) OSX programs as well as apps I just can't do it. If Apple eventually starts using their CPUs in their laptops or other products and ports the code so it could happen, I'm beyond in.

It seems both the device and the presenter are 33% thinner yet still working out okay for now.

It felt to me like the tone of the comments were a victory lap of sorts. The focus on the post-PC era for example. Apple lost the PC era despite innovation, leadership, and lawsuits. All very hard, damaging, lessons for the person and the company.

I for one felt myself cheering for Steve personally on each mention of the accomplishments of Apple over the past 5-10 years, but recently in particular.

One wonders what the fourth device will be after iPod, iPhone, iPad, but we now have an answer to where TV comes from. It's your iPad, 1080p included, UNLIKE Apple TV!

Rocketman

GET OVER IT! If it was deteroious, do you think they would have included it?

I really, really hope you guys are right about this.
Every time I get advertising in the mail in the form of a fridge magnet I chuck them.
I guess I'll just be really cautious with this Smart Cover.
But if I am right they are going to be calling it the Dumb Cover. :D
I Foretold You So...

DSL Less than 2 MBPS and no problems

as usual, the stream is pixelated, choppy, and constantly starts and stops (i have a 12 mb dsl connection). apple sucks at the internet.

I think you need to tell us about your OS version, wi-fi and a few other things before you zero in on your connection speed and putting all the blame on Apple... and WHEN you were streaming the keynote. As the title of my message states, I had no issues (boondocks DSL connection AND wi-fi)... albeit well after the event was streamed. I suppose it could be the number of users accessing the keynote at the same time as you, but even so... it doesn't confirm an Apple failure... though it could hint at how unsuspecting they were at just how many people would be putting demand on their servers at the same time.

I think the criticism I have of your post is that there was no pertinent, constructive or validated criticism from you.
