Funny moment in the whole video is when he is introducing the smart cover and says: there are 2 types, one made of polyurethane which is used to make spacesuits, and the other is made of leather (then he pauses, and you know he had to force himself to not say, "which is used to make cows?")

And I thought I was the only one. I said it out loud even.

I was watching in firefox and itvseriously sucked. I switched to safari and it was amazingly clear and beautiful. Could they be a little more subtle in their tricks?

Gonna get and iPad 2?

So anybody gonna get and iPad 2 when your iPad 1 is less than a year old?
I hate to say it but I'm dumping mine first chance I get for one of these new ones. I need that Garage Band App.

Oh come on... Is that the best/worst criticism you have?

In case anyone cares.

The stream from Apple's site won't work with PPC Macs.

Is Apple trying to tell me it's time to upgrade my iBook?

The last iBook was discontinued in 2006. Just think how lucky you are to have a laptop that is still working after five years (could you say the same of a PC?). And no , I am not an Apple fanboy, but an IT support professional in an education environment still maintaining eMacs for goodness sake when most of our PC desktops of the same era died long ago... and you don't say what OS you are running, how much RAM is installed, how up-to-date your OS is... Griping for the sake of it methinks.

Crossroads

I loved the comment at the end, with the street sign showing the intersection of technology and liberal arts. No-one but Apple has managed to mix art and science so perfectly. And they've been doing it since 1984 under the brilliant leadership of Steve Jobs, with a few years lost to thinking inside the old beige box. And no-one but Apple can mix hardware and software with the elegance of Garageband and iMovie.

I would hate to be a Samsung or a Microsoft right now.

as usual, the stream is pixelated, choppy, and constantly starts and stops (i have a 12 mb dsl connection). apple sucks at the internet.

JAJA the pc people all they can say is "apple sucks at internet" but windows really rocks ROFL

Actually I can double that with a 7 year laptop still working great for most things can't say that even for some new laptops.

It played beautifully for me full-screen over my DSL connection.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to get an iPad now. Garage Band looks insanely good, as does iMovie and Pages. This is the way I want to work, by simply grabbing items on the screen and manipulating them as if they were real. The mouse is gradually going the way of the floppy drive.

ditto ditto ditto

It was a great iPad 2 Presentation and I'm one of those people who is really excited about having a portable Garage Band to work out music anywhere i go.

That's great.

But Magnets??? Magnets, the erasers of magnetic encoded data on the surface of a portable device that i might bring near all the other computers I have with Spinning Hard drives in them????

Is this going to turn into the next Antenna Gate. Magnet Gate?

Maybe it's all in their plan to make PC's seem even worse.
Bring a magnet clad iPad 2 into your office next to your PCs and Laptops and after an hour or two they all start crashing and corrupting files.
They must have mentioned that phrase Post PC device at least 20 times.

Magnets! i hate Magnets!!

Am I wrong to be worried here??

yup

Loved seeing Steve, I really wish the guy the best even though I have never been a big fan of him personally, no one should have to endure what he has.

I do like the new iPad, but the cover... it just seems like really weak design. It just is not up to par with the device itself. It needed to be sleek and instead of the raised/lowered regions it should have been smooth and solid looking. The HDMI dongle is a bit wonky as well.

This is the closest I've been to wanting one, but until I can run (even just select ones) OSX programs as well as apps I just can't do it. If Apple eventually starts using their CPUs in their laptops or other products and ports the code so it could happen, I'm beyond in.

just get one, really-they will change your mind about how we interact with technology-Steve and Apple make life good...

sold my 16gb wifi today-order white 16gb on the 11th-NO F***** hesitation AT ALL...

The new iPad looks great, I'm glad it comes in white now.. But still Its not something I'll be getting, primarily because I have no use for it, and its expensive, I'd rather upgrade my PC instead.. I have used iPad a few times, and the experience is pretty good, but it can't replace a desktop for the work I do..

It would seem that GarageBand will work on iPad 1. It's iMovie that won't.

iPad meh 2 is an okay product at a somewhat reasonable price. It's neither magical or revolutionary. I won't be buying one either.

Use your mind and run tests on your line noise, line speed to your first connection and follow the route of your connection to the server [most likely Akamai] serving up the content.

The network will only work around as many lowest point network routers as possible. A few flooded pathways along the way can absolutely kill performance.

Blame Akamai.

I always wait for Apple to post the video in iTunes for download... much better quality when it's not streaming.

I did this (spoiler free with the script from Voidness) and it worked really well, only skipped once during the entire thing after the download.

QUestion???

hi folks,

I couldnt find any mentions about release date of iPad 2 for non listed countries.. Do you have any idea about the tentative release date in countries like Hongkong,Singapore et al...

It's really about quickness and ease of use and not worrying about moving or bendable parts that can break on a laptop or PC, not for heavy computing or gaming, but for really fast browsing and passing around a group of people with no worries on how they'll treat your laptop or ultra portability without having to hold an iPhone 4 right up to your eyes to fill your field of view or worrying about the battery/safety of your laptop etc. Also for filling out forms and keeping up to the minute access to databases (especially in the medical field) I think are where it's really going to make the biggest difference. If you want to explain anatomy, a surgery, side effects, current vital stats, and experiment results all at the same time with one durable device the iPad is unbelievably more practical than a laptop that can easily snap open or get who knows what in the keyboard or a set of different, static, expensive to print slides and pamphlets than can get torn or lost.

i did however really want a higher resolution display, we've truly been spoiled with the mind-blowing iPhone 4 retina display ...

Nothing beats watching the Keynotes for product releases.

I'm glad Stevey seems to be doing well. It was a good thing he gave this Keynote.

I thought the first iPad was amazingly thin, but thinner than my iPhone, wow.

as far as i can tell, the Apps will work on the first iPad too, you just obviously wont be able to record video into the iMovie app
