Actually a true Audiophile would tell you that at higher bit-rates, such as Apple's AAC at 256 kbps the difference between a lossless file and a compressed file is virtually indistinguishable, and multiple ABX blind tests support this theory. Let me guess, you also think HD 24/96 Audio sounds better, right?

What makes all the difference in the world are your speakers and the quality of the mastering your file has.

Actually, no, that's not what a true audiophile would tell you - because it would depend ENTIRELY on the music that is being compressed whether or not 256 kbps would be enough to be indistinguishable (hint, if you listen to music with lots of cymbals, they can sound like they're in a drainage pipe at that bitrate). If you're listening to some godawful pop music, it's not going to matter. Let me guess, you can't have a discussion about anything without attempting to insult someone else's knowledge?

The best speakers in the world aren't going to sound very good when hooked up to that 3.5mm headphone jack on your last iPhone. Is it becoming clearer now?

Adaptors aren't a solution to a problem that never existed! Bluetooth is not the answer either as wireless headphones need charging. If they dropped lightning for USB-C and kept the 3.5mm jack, that would be fine.

I agree with you on the last part. Just don't see any of this normalizing until after a couple of years of shuffling from all companies involved. Samsung wants to create a proprietary port just to compete...should tell you where the competition's mind is at.

My Bose earplugs stopped responding via the remote yesterday on my first outing with the new adapter on 7+. When I pulled out the adapter and turned it around it worked again and has been since.

They removed a perfectly good and working solution for no good reason, and I'm definitely not alone in thinking this. There are plenty of people on here who see straight through the Apple marketing BS on this one.

What about this is marketing? Pretty sure they had a good reason as well.

A lot who blindly buy for the new shiny logo

How many is a lot? 10 million? 20 million? 60 million? Every person who buys one and likes it? Pretty nuts how far down the rabbit hole you've gone that you now let common sense fly out the window so you can label people who like what you don't.
[doublepost=1474328896][/doublepost]
Using 3.5mm headphones requires a lightning adapter dongle. No thanks. Not spending my $$ on that.

This is exactly how the discussion should begin and end. There's really no argument - don't like it, don't buy it. No need to try and insult anyone who agrees with the decision...which is what, 99% of this discussion? People trying to get attention by insulting Apple users on this forum? And the rest the response?

CD drives were a perfectly good and working solution as well... Oh well...
Old jack, earbuds work on every iPhone, including the 7.
New jack, only works on iPhone 7, doesn't work on iPhone 7.

I think we can end the discussion.

New discussion. If they are 'standardized' cables, why can't they also work on the iPhones that have a lightning port? What's so special about the lighting port on the 7 that the new earbuds with lightning dont work on the 6 or 5s?
What?! It this really true? Bad Apple! I was going to use them for my iPad Air 2. ***** **** **** ***************

It comes with the phone, dude....

Early adopters

Not flying down the rabbit hole one bit. It is common sense that early adopters who are fanboys always upgrade right away are apple's bread and butter. Can't accurately judge how big the sales disappointment will be until later sales numbers come out.

Hahaha... Lets make something that was working fine into something complicated, with no real benefit and not work.

You've never seen this happen with an analog jack? Because, FYI, there are two types of control sets for analog jacks and you will find that it's already way more complicated than you thought.

If you think people buy things for a shiny logo, you're flown down the rabbit hole. If the number of people who buy iPhones were Apple fanboys, ALL Apple products would sell like the iPhone does. Otherwise, what is Android's bread and butter? There are even more sold yearly so they must have EVEN MORE FANBOYS!?!?!??!?!?!?

Really piss poor this considering they've removed the standardised jack that worked perfectly. They should be ashamed.

You clearly haven't spent much time in stores and talked to people who upgrade yearly just for sake of upgrading to a new Apple product. Not really a mobile phone is vastly different than a 2,000-3,000 device still a minor amount of fanboys do upgrade their computers and iPads yearly. A 600-1000 dollar phone is different than the other devices you are trying to make a point with.

No Android users can't be classified as same kind of fanboys as they have so many options and have many more options to choose from. Some are manufacturer fanboys but nowhere near the amount compared to the apple fanboys who buy device just for sake of status.

I did not agree with the decision to remove the 3.5 mm jack. I would however, thought that Apple, having made a courageous decision, would have made it an absolute certainty that there would be zero issues with the ear pods. These rookie mistakes, failure of quality control and lack of accountability is worrisome. I expected better from Apple.

They did a good enough job pissing off this one. I'm likely going to buy a Google Pixel or Pixel XL this October. If not one of the Pixel phones, I'll buy another Android device. I'm firm in my decision not to buy an iPhone after six years of using iPhones exclusively.

Bye Felicia

Yes, the fidelity of THAT headphone jack in your smartphone is not so hot. There are headphones that provide their own DAC that do much better.

What is it with people like yourself who are so sure of yourself that you attempt to insult someone else's knowledge before even disputing a point?

You just do not know what you're talking about. Headphone jacks in and of themselves do not have "fidelity." DACs may have "fidelity," but not jacks. And there simply are not any headphone manufacturers making 3.5mm headphones with DACs in-line. The reason is because the signal IS ALREADY ANALOG by the time it gets to the headphone jack. That's what an iPhone 1-6S's internal DAC does. Converts the digital 0s and 1s to an analog signal which can be transmitted through the phone's speakers or the headphone jack.

Please, I know you might be into guitar amps but you clearly do not know anything about digital audio.

Huh? What makes you think they aren't? This is from the Apple Lightning EarPods webpage compatibility section:

iPhone Models

iPad Models

iPod Models

The greatest inconvenience caused by the removal of the headphone jack is that you can no longer charge the iPhone and use your earphones at the same time unless they are wireless, which are expensive, need to be charged as well, as if we don't have enough devices to charge already and have worse sound quality than most wired earphones. Or you get another silly dongle.

Here we go again...yet another poster whose argument is "You clearly don't/haven't" etc etc etc. No, I clearly am a person you do not know who does not agree with you and has quite a different outlook on it all. Also, I upgrade my Apple iPhone every single year and among the "early adopters" especially now that the iPhone upgrade program exists. However, I own other smartphones as well...and I think you don't understand the numbers. See, 7 years ago, a million in a weekend was a big deal. You might get away with calling them fanboys...but when you're talking 10s of millions of people, and calling them all fanboys, you have lost your bearings.

WHY HAVEN'T THEY TORN THIS DOWN YET!?

What the hell is inside it!?

Mac, I hope you are sitting down. I know you are desperately hoping there is a "666" and pentagram inside, but iFixit already took it apart and corroborated what Apple said. So sad, I know.

Here, since you are struggling because the iPhone 7 is already setting records for the best ever display, battery life, camera, processor, etc., I copied the link for you to save you having to find it-

Don't worry. You'll find other things to excoriate Apple over.

The adapter is worse in every way

Check on iMore. They have one of their excellent video tutorials on how to use it. Don't blink, however, it takes almost two seconds and then you can use any headphone you want and never have to think of it again while you use a phone that is clearly, as Tim Cook said, the bestest ever. Unless, that is, you are in that tiny, tiny group who can't get it out of their mind that there is now a two inch extension on the end of their headphone cord instead of marveling at the best display ever tested and reviewed by DisplayMate.:)
