I figured this out in April/May of this year. It's not that hard, isn't it?

Every late January / late February is minor product bump month.

Spring is for more significant product updates.

Every January is NEW products month. So I don't know why people are expecting updated Mac Pros / MacBook Airs / MacBook Pros / MacBooks / etc. at Macworld. For Macs, Macworld is for new or revamped (Intel transition) products.

Completely bogus assessment of past history.

If you didn't notice, Apple switched to intel chips which completely changed the game. Apple can no longer update on their schedule. Apple must keep up with the competition if they want to remain relevant.

Apple will most likely update MBP's & MBs to Montevina within a month or two of the general release which occurred on the 14th. It is possible that mac mini, & MBA, might also see the same. I think the imac will get the new quad as it already is using an early Montevina Plaform.

Is it possible to order the old case design the week the new one comes out?

I have been holding out on buying a mbp for almost a year. I am going to purchase to one in the August-September time frame. When a new redesign comes out, does apple immediately remove all the old case styles besides the refurb models? I am also planning on taking advantage of the back to school ipod offer.

I'm on the fence because I really think the case design has been a huge hit and it is rated very well. If the new design takes advantage of mba designs, like the keyboard or the loss of an optical drive would really suck.

I have only read through the first 4 pages of this thread, so if this was already discussed, I apologize. How long does apple allow returns only for the reason that I want the new design.. what about for a small fee? I need some advice. When did macrumors finalize a rumor on last years update?

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

I think it is 14 days from purchase to return the product. If the box has been opened, then there is a 10% fee on the return.

I would bet that if you went down to the Apple Store the day of the new macbook pro announcement you could buy the old model.

Unless they completely clear their old stock, they would probably have a few hanging around that you could purchase.

On the Montevina launch date laptop manufacturers announced their new models. All except for Apple. Getting information out of the Politburo was easier than getting info out of Apple. :D Has Apple been told that the cold war is over ? Do they realize that people need to make plans for school purchases ? I guess they're not worried to much about their customers buying the new pee cees because Vista sucks so bad. Must be nice to have captive customers you can treat like mushrooms. Keep them in the dark and...:D

Just why would Apple not put a LED display in a MacBook?

Oh yeah LED would be more likely first because that was the news back a few months ago that they were ordering 13 inch LED screens. I think it's either going to be LED and a case revision or just LEDs, either of them is great.

Gahhh! I want this to happen ASAP! I really think it is going to happen this Tuesday or next Tuesday. Notice that the "New Macbook Pro" sign is gone from the Apple store site? The "new" sticker is gone! This has to means something. This and the whole "Best Buy was notified of a reduction in shipments during the next two weeks" thing shows me that the update is soon!

Somewhere Steve Jobs is giggling at us.

like I said before people need to stop complaining of the leaked shot of the case with out apple logo. it could eirther be a shot with out the cover peace on, or a shot of a new LED blacklet logo

If you'd take the time to read the warrantee agreement that you signed, you'd notice that case damage isn't covered. Your warrantee isn't necessarily void, they just won't pay for the dents made by you dropping your computer.

problem with that is how do apple oor others know it was user caused? with out running a full test of some sort...

I think the news regarding Best Buy pretty much confirms that the update won't happen tommorow. Why would they say two weeks if the new release was only a few days away?

However, it's also worth considering that many people go off to college in mid-August and will have to buy their laptops by then. Apple could lose several sales to companies like Sony, Lenovo, HP, and Dell, all of which have recently announced new notebooks. (In fact, I think Sony's new SR series will definitely be competition for the MacBook.)

VMWare all the way

I hope they do MBP first if they don't do them together. (since I have to get a MBP hehe)

My $ is on July 29 or Aug 5 for the release based on this new info, probably J29.

I hope it's a case redesign too, so I can go into school with the obviously new laptop, but I'll be happy if it just has the higher FSB/RAM speeds.

The other thing that seems likely is that the 17" base will be the 2.53Ghz chip, so only the mildest of speed bumps, but the upgrade would go from 2.6 to 2.8, and for that kind of upgrade I might spend the extra $225, I wasn't even considering it for the 2.5 to 2.6

The other good thing is that I wanted to get it at the Apple Store (I hate buying things online - I want my new toy now) but to get the high-rez matte screen, I had to pay for the 2.6 processor, but if it's a 2.8 I might just go that route - can't upgrade the processor.

Just glad I'm working again so I can think about that processor upgrade and maybe that nice looking black Samsung laser printer, it's only $100 after the rebate.

Also with the printer rebate, it seems like it's ongoing but it also expires, but the day after one expires a new one starts, is that generally the case?

Also is there anything worthwhile to do with the stock RAM other than keeping it around in case you have to ship the thing back to Applecare? I know I want to go to the 4GB (assuming that's still the limit) because of the video work and running Vista and all (It runs so much happier with 4GB on my desktop, sure it will feel the same here)

And heck - that brings up another question - do people prefer Parallels or VM?

Personally I like VMWare better. Most of the people I talk to tend to like VMWare's Fusion better. This could be because VMWare has been in business a lot longer than Parallels.

Cool but still need new ACD Apple?

Cool I wanted a new MacBook Pro 17-inch, I need something portable after hearing about this news i'm definitely waiting for the revamped MacBook Pros, now Apple need to revamped the cinema display I can't not stress that enough we need new displays Apple.

so only the mbp are getting redesigned??
what about the mb is it only getting speed bumps??

Steve Jobs is afraid that people will stop purchasing the current Mac as soon as upgrades are mentioned. The iPhone is the only hardware product that they have mentioned a shipping date ahead of time. Sometimes there is a minor mention of some new upgrades. But with the Intel MacBook/Pro laptops forget knowing before they are shipping.

Yea, I agree so I think it will come out the 29th. But the fact that they changed the site to NOT say the "new MBP" has to mean something, right? This will most likely happen before the end of July. Anyone disagree/agree?
