Quote from Steve Jobs BBC website

"We set a new record for Mac sales, we think we have a real winner with our new iPhone 3G, and we’re busy finishing several more wonderful new products to launch in the coming months."

My money is on slimmer laptops based on the tech in the MBA. I think the Macbook Touch is unlikely but how cool would that be!

Jesus christ, slimmer?!?! The last thing we want is the ****ing MBP to get THINNER ---___--- By insisting it's 1" rather than 1.3" Apple already force us to make do with grossly underpowered GPUs, no blu ray, vast heat etc.

Any thinner and Apple should have to admit that they don't sell a high end portable.

No. All screens from 17" to 22" are the same resolution.

Why? That's not the point.

The MacBook Pro's are better.

Then don't buy it, as has been previously stated.

k, first off, I'm not anti-macbook so stop feeling so offended.

Second, my point with the standard/optional is your paying more so you should be getting 250 g hard drive as base especially since the blackbook which is not suppose to be as good as the MBP has a larger one than the standard low end MBP.

I'm getting a MBP because I NEED the dedicated graphics. I may not think $500 justifies it but i have no choice, because I need the graphics card for what I'm going to use the computer for.

and to the guy who said that 17" to whatever sized screens have the same resolution, that has nothing to do with the difference in a 13" and 15" screen size. And I might add that many PC 15" laptops have better resolutions than the MBP so Apple might want to improve that as well.

All in all both are great machines, and the best options out there because they run great. Heck there macs! I'm just saying that for $500 I think we should get something else a little meatier or I'd even be happy if the blackbook and the base MBP had the same standard hard drive size. To me it insults those who get the MBP to spend $50 more to get what a $500 cheaper laptop already has. Now enough said.

speaking of thinner laptops, why is it that the macbook weight as much as the mbp? i think they should make a redesigned based on this. the macbook can be so much lighter and it would make me want to buy it MOREEE

Hell, the Thinkpad x300's 13" screen has the same resolution as my current 15" MBP.
Yes, they could certainly up the resolution (amongst many other things) on this thing.

Yeah nevermind give us 'true' millions of colors rather than the dithering that goes on to emulate it.

I've just been to an Apple Retailer in Malta and asked him whether he had heard from Apple about any updates for the MB, MBP and MBA and he replied that he haven't heard anything and usually Apple inform them about new (or updated products) between a month and two months the products are released. If what he is saying is true then we won't be seeing a new MB for at least two months!

The iBook was 1.35", why can't Apple make the MBP 1.35"?

LED Screen? A toss up.....but I hope so. If Apple is redesigning the MacBook for the next several years then you'd think they'd go this route.
LED screens have nothing to do with case redesigns.

In June 2007, the MacBook Pros first got LED screens, and the design didn't change one bit.

both have speakers, what's your point?
Better speakers?

No, all those small things don't justify a difference of $500 to me.
So what? There's still more differentiation between the MacBook and the MacBook Pro than a GPU and a backlit keyboard.

Are we paying $500 more for GPU and backlit keyboard. Distinguish the lines!

If the 17" MacBook Pro was 1.35" they could fit blu ray, an 8800 GTS (link) and a bigger battery in it.

...

Ughh god, thinking too hard about the value of the MBP is depressing.. I should have just stayed an ignorant fanboy.

Don't feel bad being concerned about the hardware.

After reading that Steve Jobs has taken this week off (AppleInsider), I find it hard to believe we'll be seeing the notebook update before mid-August.

Thus the battery life wouldn't go down as much as people seem to think it will. Don't forget the 45 W Extreme dual- and quad-core processors.

What I find intriguing is that although nobody seemed to complain about the thickness of the iBook, everybody seems to complain about a thicker MacBook Pro.

I think it has more to do with Apple making everything thinner. So to make the MBP thicker is going backwards in those peoples eyes. I personally don't mind a little bit thicker notebook if it means that I can get more features or better cooling in the process.

He could be taking a week off to prepare for new products in the comming weeks

yeah people need to know that thin is not always the case

Because they are fanboys, they will defend the status quo until the bitter end.

Besides, these new cards can auto switch between integrated and dedicated graphics to save battery life.

We'd then have better battery life on the go and vastly better graphics when needed.

Why isn't this the ONLY possibility for the new MBPs ----___----

wait I hope the company doesn't shut down when he takes time off, what happens if when he retires? No more Apple? I think they will be prepping without him, maybe he set everything in order and when he comes back he will be rested and ready to sell new Macbooks.

"Welcome back Steve and welcome new Macbook!"

It's like a friend who brings you back taffy when he goes to the beach.

A large part of Apple's dogma when it comes to new products is image;if it the product is physically an "improvement" over previous models, then in the eyes of the typically ignorant consumer it's a better buy. Granted, the iPhone 3G is thicker than the original, but only by .02 inches. However, its sides are tapered and thinner than the center of the device, much like the Air, thus making it feel thinner in a potential buyer's hands. Apple would only increase the thickness of the Macbook Pro if they thought it more aesthetically pleasing to the consumer.

Image is everything...to the ignorant.

So THAT's the target market of the MacBook Pro!:rolleyes:

I can't wait to see the new MBP designs. They have been using that same design since 2003. I hope the new MBP's will have a black/aluminum design like MBA but it will be bigger. I think it will look like an old tibook. but update with the new features.

omg, i have talked to 2 apple employees and they told me that apple doesnt tell them nothing, if an updated laptop comes they will only know when they open the new stock.. he said they dont know until they get some new boxes in the store and they have newer barcodes (or somthing) then they know its a new product
they will know about 2 days before it will be on display he said..
