The only problem with Blu-ray is that it will never allow for a 4 hour battery life. Thus, I don't see Apple adopting it.

until the battery technology improves. i don't really care either way, but if you're right and power consumption is the main argument against it then i agree with BJWanlund, it will only be kept out until battery technology can support it.

The decreased shipments is supposed to keep the macbook numbers around zero so when the new ones are released they can save money by not having to ship the old ones back and Apple can't afford to have Best Buy in low numbers (possibility to losing customers) for a month so I think it will be a lot closer than you think.

I found this from February so it might help spread some light on what they are doing.

Don't bet at the big table on that one - look how long they went without iPhones online and in the stores. Apple apparently does what it wnats, when it wants.

Can someone tell me what exactly is rumored to happen to the MacBook's because that's the one I just bought, the blackbook and I would be really pissed if it changed...
So what exactly is suppossed to happen and when.
I hope not,
Alex

Can anyone shed some light on how long it takes new laptops to become available from the announcement date? Are they normally available for purchase immediately from the Apple store? Or is it normal to wait a week or two if it's a major overhaul?

I can't imagine Apple would want to lose sales for a few weeks, so it seems like they'd want to have them available from the get go, but is this consistant with their history? It would be torture to have amazing new laptop's announced and still have to wait weeks for it to arrive.

3) Here's a hint: Mac/PC applications and games, along with folders in the Library to squirrel **** away you almost never listen to, and a better tagging system for video.
  • Skimming for videos.
  • Intuitive tagging system.
  • More options in the multiple item Get Info.
  • Cover Flow like the iPod.
  • Song listening history like Time Machine.

Considering how Apple was happy to add things like CD and DVD writers before they became "mainstream", that they have not chosen to add a Blu-Ray player, much less writer, is a sign that they may very well not consider the technology important enough to offer.

There are some physical limits to fitting a slot-loading drive in some of the current portables (and perhaps iMac), but nothing stopped them from offering it with pre-MW2008 Mac Pro refresh. Yet they didn't do it.
I completely agree. The high price is also not an issue because Apple has no problem putting in RAM BTO options costing thousands of dollars.

People keep putting forward reasons why Apple "must" include Blu-ray, those reasons are valid, but signs just point the other way.

Rumored: aluminum case for the MacBook, redesign for the MacBook Pro
Fixed that for you.

You both forgot the inclusion of a multi-touch trackpad, which i still insist is just as important of an update as an aluminum redesign.

Well Should I?

Hi newbie here.

I am not really happy with the design of my MB, although the performance is more than I need.

An online etailer is offering rebates. So, in the opinion of anyone who cares to express it, will I regret getting an MBP now?

Not at all. I have a MBP now and LOVE IT as does family that just bought a MBP

If you need one or want one, you will not regret getting one at this moment

I would like to know that as well... that will mean by any chance even an update tomorrow would not guarantee us landing the new laptops immediately??

wont happen. maybe with in the next 2-3 weeks

Now this is getting annoying. Just 2 weeks ago everyone was like "I'm putting my money on the 29th" and now everyone's saying the 5th then they'll say the 12th next week. Make up your mind!!!!!!!!

Well, my friend just told me she had a dream about a new macbook line, and that in the dream, I was very happy I waited to buy mine. The prophecy has been written! Apple has no choice but to fulfill it.
