Nice to know. I always thought it meant Body and Toe Odor.

Interesting about that invitation is that it mentions a trade show where Apple aren't even on the exhibitor list. It makes me think that the announcements aren't all that directly photo related, or that some of what is to be announced is still vaporware.
I think it is designed to steal some PC software thunder from later in the day. Dang Steve knows how to market!! :D

edit: To make people happy:

Tomorrow i'm going to me a nice new 17 inch powerbook, with a nice HD screen, a nice dual core G4, DDR2 Ram (so long as its actually makes a difference).

I've spent 2 weeks waiting to order this (since i got my student loan!). After last wednesdays dissappointment i'm aiming low, with hopes of getting more? :D

Though, i wouldnt say no to a nice bright pink PowerBook Sock! :D

Happier?! :p

That's a big stand!

I got the following confirmation from my sources regarding Apples short stock of 14" iBook. Due to an overwhelming demand for the 12" iBook for this falls school start, all production was shifted over to 12" iBooks in an attempt to provide enough machines. This evidentally led to a 6 week behind production schedule for the 14" iBook, thus the short stockage.

Yeah i have to agree, it is eerily quiet. There have been no rumors from the appleinsider/thinksecret...which is driving me crazy. Please let tomorrow bring us super cool products...please
One more thing beyond the LAST one more thing ... announcing the new "iRumorKiller"!! :D  :D

I'm hoping they fix some of these manufacturing issues, slim down the design, and go to a widescreen. I also think it'd be cool to bring back the colors like the old G3-iBook toilet seats and G3-iMacs. But here's how I'd do it...
Slim down the design? Um ... last time I checked the Powerbooks were 1" thick. Where do you suggest the "slimming" occur exactly? 17" is already widescreen. And colors? For professional computers? Do you work with preschoolers? No offense meant ... just curious.

I don't think a colored accent makes something look too busy. And personally, I think the white and aluminum is rather boring. Minimalist is one thing, but boring is quite another.

Strange how the only people I hear that dislike(d) the colored Macs are people on rumor sites like this. Almost anyone one else I've talked to in person preferred the colored machines to the boring white-only and aluminum. Of course, maybe I should be thankful they stick to white and aluminum... maybe the next set of Powerbooks will end up looking like the iPod-Minis!

Probably because the people you are talking to are of the same opinion as yourself (most of our friends tend to have similar tastes - that's why they are our friends). The only think I'd like to see would be for a black version (black anodized aluminum would be nice)

Business users (which most "pro" users would be) usually don't want a distracting laptop. When I'm doing a presentation, I want people to be looking at me or the slide I have on the screen, not my über-cool new laptop or something. The glowing Apple logo is cool enough for my taste. (and it should stay white) And if someone else at a conference table had some loudly decorated laptop, it could be distracting as well.

Another reason that I've heard from graphics pro's is that colorful things on or around the screen can distract them from their design work; that's probably why Apple put in the "Graphite" color scheme way back. (It used to be that only "Aqua" blue was available.)

isn't it surprising that nothing really leaked so far? usually at least part of spec. leak before. this time nobody has any info beyond speculating about the obviuos.

the last event was also surprising in terms of the imac but at least the video ipod was rumored (pics from ads) the day before.

i can understand that there is no info about a small thing like a new photo editor. but that there is nothing solid on hardware is strange if we assume that they update all powermacs and powerbooks.

so maybe the updates are not as big as we all hope?

Actually, we knew nothing about the iMac updates last Wednesday before they happened, and look how great they were. Those were some really nice updates: faster CPU and GPU, PCIe, DDR2 (I think it was, wasn't it?), 250GB HHD standard, Frontrow, iSight, Photo Booth, etc. I'd only quibble with the USB dongle modem, which I admittedly DESPISE. But otherwise we got a pretty meaty update. If the PBs go that way I don't think anyone will be complaining.

Ok, who am I kidding--where PBs are concerned someone on MR will ALWAYS be whining and complaining. I will probably be one of them.
:D

here is what i heard from an "insider":

It's a "Special Edition - Early Adopters" MacTel box - one configuration, available to everyone for $1899.00. Specifications are not known - but suppossedly it's wickedly fast, and it comes in an aluminum enclosure similar to a G5 - but in a 10 inch "Cube" form factor.

sorry to spoil it

The idea is OK, but I hope you're not waiting to see this tomorrow. As said hundreds of times, don't wait for anything Intel until next year.

^^ Nice! Thanks for posting that. I think it's pretty certain now that something very cool photography related will be released tomorrow. I'm not even going to start guessing what it will be, but given that invite and now the macdev writers opinion, I can't wait to see what it is.

I can say what I'd like to see though. ;) I'd like to see some kind of photo or digital asset management system, Apple style, released. If you look at that market, there's LOADS of room for improvement. The best app out there on a consumer level is iView Media Pro, which is cool, but lacks the Apple simplicity and polish. Then there's the awful Cumulus, and only marginally better Portfolio from Extensis. Nothing out there thrills me. I think Apple could easily come up with something more powerful and intuitive than anyone else has done yet.

Well, less than 24 hours to go to see what will be.

"Drool-worthy form factor"??? Maybe for 2003. Now these beasts are too big and clunky compared to other laptops on the market.
Have you SEEN other laptops :p Some are thin (which often means lacking things the PB has), but plenty are beasts that look like refrigerators compared to a PowerBook of the same screen size. And sound like them too.

What do you mean? Like a version of the current test platform that people could actually keep?
Something like that--or preferably more refined (and compact). It was an idea someone mentioned earlier in this tread.

BTO stands for Buying Through Overstock.

Actually no, you were right :)

That booth is right across from--and the same size as--Canon's. So I'm guessing it's more than just an asset managment system.

Great! All the better for us!
I wasn't suggesting that an asset management system was all we'd see, just "one" something that I'd like to see come out of this. I'm all for updates to the pro hardware as well. Those towers and PBs need a refresh with some nice updated specs.
But… I can't believe that we'd only be seeing updated hardware, because how would that be photography related? Surely pro photogs can get work done just as well on existing Macs as with any new ones about to be released, right? So, something more is in the wings. I'm gonna stop trying to guess now before I go nuts and just wait patiently for tomorrow at noon.

Waiting patiently are you? And you're still online? Personally I think Macs have one virus, created by Apple, that turns all into Mac obsessive/compulsives.
