I also will be buying one. I have a new Discover Card with 0% financing till June on transfer balances. I am planning on charging it and transfering it to the new card.

Like i said if it exists:
15-inch WUXGA 1440x900 resolution
1.7GHz Freescale MPC8641D (dual core)
1GB DDR2 SDRAM
100GB Hard Drive+
256 MB Video Card
Full size keyboard
10/100/1000BASE-T Ethernet
Superdrive Dual Layer
FireWire 400/800
Analog audio in/out
Mini-DVI out

I've been waiting for 6 months for it :). Pretty sick of my 900MHz P3.

WUXGA is 1920x1200, 1440x900 is "WXGA+"

If and when new powerbooks, or powermacs do come out...
how many of you all are actually going to buy them? I know I can't afford one (I am a student) and yet here I am reading through all these post, esp. when nothing new is known... what happens to all of us? and why do I get so damn excited...?

Yeah that's the sad part. I get so excited about these announcements even though I'm incapable of buying anything Steve announces (student, limited income). I got a 30gb photo in June, so I won't be getting a vPod any time soon (mine is personalized, so no sell on ebay), and I will probably be stuck with my iBook for another 3 or 4 years or so. Or maybe it'll just get stolen like my previous iPod did.

So, something more is in the wings. I'm gonna stop trying to guess now before I go nuts and just wait patiently for tomorrow at noon.
It's OK ... just keep reading these threads and we'll keep guessing enough for you to drive you nuts anyways!! :D

Not a lot of details

How come all the Rumor sites are all silent? It must not be that big of an event, or Jobs must've implimented some stiff security controls...something. A day before the event and practically NOTHING is known about what is happening?

Strange. Come on MacRumors, AppleInsider, ThinkSecret....get with the program! ;)

Powermacs go from 2.7 - 2.8
Powerbooks go from 1.67 - 1.7

No wonder they are throwing everything into them but the kitchen sink. You cant go nowhere if your chipmaker isnt.

AppleInsider just confirmed the event at 12 noon here:
http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=1330

"According to sources, the Mac maker will utilize a small conference room inside the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center to unveil its latest professional Macintosh products. The event is slated to begin at 12:00pm eastern time."

Don't like the bit about a small conference room. Makes me think of small updates.

Then again small is relative.

No flaming, I want to hear your suggestions for a new PowerBook form factor. I'm not really creative and aside from colour changes I can't think of any way to change it. What're your ideas?

i have to agree with the form factor changes. Really subtle curves i think. They changed the mini to the nano, the ipod changed (the curve in the back on the chrome) and the iMac, Again the curve in the back. So i'm thinking some sort of subtle curve where they can shave off some space. To "freshen" them up before the big change during the intel switch

I'm buying one - selling my existing 15" PowerBook. It's on eBay and already up to $1966 with 3 days to go!
My existing Powerbook will be cheaper to keep than to sell on eBay. I'll keep it and use it for an iTunes in-home stereo or something.

Actually, some bright-eyed observer over at AppleInsider (I think) made a nice observation.

Apple is *not* listed as an exhibitor/vendor at the PhotoExpo.

There is, however, a very large booth in the middle of the floor marked "Reserve" (#338, IIRC)..... and the contact address for "reserve" just happens to be:
1 INFINITE LOOP,CUPERTINO, CA 95014 .

Classic Apple to be that secretive. And I have a hard time believing that they would contract such a large booth at a Photo (not video, mind you) Expo, unless they had something cool to show off.

Looks like I'm going to check out the Expo after all.... ;)

i phoned up the UK apple store earlier, and yes i was very blatent and asked the question,...whats coming out JUST to hear the tone of his voice whether it was fuelled with secraccy or just clear blankness,.,.. "its more than my jobs worth" with a laughable tone, and he DID advise me to wait,.. i said i was going for a power mac, but he was a good lad i didnt try to get any more out of him as hes being recorded for "training purposes" ...as always

but yeh he was inclining me to get him to call ME back on friday,.. alsoo

he said they are sending logic pro SHIPPED FREE at this time,.too ,.. if thats any thing added

I couldn't find any evidence, but can the 7447A (the current G4 processor for the PowerBook) be jacked up to a higher speed than 1.67?

I'd be shocked if Apple released a new PowerBook without at least some kind of CPU speed upgrade; but if the G5 or 7448 isn't put in; is there still some upside to the current chip?

Next, the new iMac DOESN'T have a modem. Since I won't buy one it doesn't matter to me except....what if new PowerBooks, if they are indeed released, also don't have a modem either? I NEED a modem port still; and I don't want to have to pay extra for some USB substitute on something that should still be standard in a portable.

While we can dream about what the announcements might be the one thing I keep remembering is that Mactels are coming and Apple will have a lot of engineering resources focused on them - especially if the first release is MWSF in January.

What that means for tomorrow would be upgrades that minimizes engineering resources. Dual core G5s should be possible, but I don't think Freescale has overcome their delivery problems from the Moto days in order for the dual core G4s. One can only hope, even if it is a faint hope.

If Apple has had working prototypes for a long time we might get some big surprises buy I am remaining only conservatively excited . . .

With so many disappointments PB-wise, I actually cannot imagine there being any updates tomorrow... saying that, I will be gutted if the PB doesn't get a look in. :( I will be THRILLED if I get in and open up MR to see "New powerbooks!" :D

It IS strange how quiet it is on the rumors front. There's usually some more solid info just prior to the event, although I wouldn't be at all surprised to see some more solid specs show up tomorrow morning from one of the sites. I guess Steve has gotten even tighter control over product information.

I'm not sure there is such a thing as a "small" conference room in the Javitz Center :p Seriously, I wouldn't worry about that too much. Besides, I'm skeptical of how AppleInsider's sources could even know what kind of room it's being held in. I would think that won't be revealed until tomorrow AM when press start showing up. But I could be totally wrong about that. Maybe it's widely known info.

Lessee, about 18 hours 30 minutes to go. *sigh* It's gonna be a long night.

I don't think they'd drop the modem from the Powerbooks because so many people who travel need it, and to get internet access in many hotels around the world you need a modem, its just to travel minded to be removed IMO.

How about a BIO here
https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/1828392/

Yeah, I didn't post the bio because I figured the poor woman would be bombarded.

Notice that they don't even give her title? Maybe she's just a scheduling flunky, but usually they list the person's division after their name at Apple.

Pretty funny.

And I still don't buy the iPhotoshop idea, way too uphill a battle not to mention the potential to really tick off Adobe. And judging from the floorplan that is a hell of a big booth to just show off some new software.

I guess we'll know soon.

he had a slight tinge of empathy on the whisp of his tone for me,... most definatly,... i just ended it,.. "il just have to hang in here then for the time being" he says...."il look faward to hearing from you SOON"

if theyr on commition which i dont know i spose most of these are done on commition, but even so he was pritty genuine and there was no pressure at all to keep me on the line as he knew I KNEW at least somthing soo that was at least the cool thing
