Yup. Bricked mine. Did not do 17.7 update. Went right to Apple Store and luckily they had one in stock so I was out the door 15 minutes later w a new one 🤷🏻‍♂️.
Wow that is fast turn around. It is almost like Apple was aware this could happen and had already decided on a course of action.

Very curious as to how long it will take for Apple to restart the iPadOS 18 OTA. I'll be very surprised if Apple restarts OTA next week.

I have a question - Background: I started to download iPadOS 18 to an M4 13” early in the morning, before they pulled it. I realized that I didn’t have time to wait for it to downloading before it finished, so I turned off the iPad and left it off all day, until I got to where I was going and had internet again. When I got here I turned the iPad back on (connected to the internet again) and saw that that the download was still paused. I ignored it but apparently it continued to download because I got a message that it was available for installation and did I want to install it. I canceled any installation of it. I didn’t try to install it.

My question is I assume that the version downloaded is the old version that is waiting for install, will that version still be there when Apple changes the file and releases it again? Is there an easy way to delete that download and wait? I don’t feel like risking bricking my main iPad at all.

PS - I now no longer see iPadOS 18 available for install, but my question still stands - will the new version, when it gets released, write over/delete the version I downloaded?

Apple stopped signing the iPadOS 18 update for the M4 iPad Pro models, which means the new software is no longer available to be downloaded and installed at the current time.

The update appears to have been pulled following complaints from some iPad Pro owners, who found that the update bricked their devices.

There are reports on Reddit from iPad Pro users who had an interruption in the installation process, leading to an iPad that refused to turn on. A total replacement was required for affected users.

Not all M4 iPad Pro owners have had an issue installing the update, and it could be linked to installing the new iOS 17.7 update before installing iOS 18. Apple will make the software available again when the underlying problem has been addressed.

Update: Apple has provided MacRumors with the following statement: "We have temporarily removed the iPadOS 18 update for M4 iPad Pro models as we work to resolve an issue that is impacting a small number of devices."

I accidentally updated to 17.7. Once committed there’s no turning back. Immediately upon successful install, I queued up the iOS18 update. Installation was successful without issue. I updated immediately, as soon as iOS18 released Monday morning.

Some of us remember iOS 8. There was no iPadOS then. iOS 8 first release caused many iPads to not be able to connect to wifi, including my iPad Air2. Took Apple until iOS 8.0.4 to fix it, many weeks later. I never update any Apple device until a release has been out for a while.

If this is against the other iPad models, then it's not an issue. I love to see what the problem determination of unexpected shutdown during IPadOS 18.0 installing so we can better understand what caused this instance. :)

Yup thats what I believe will end up happening with my own issue. They wont fix it until about a year or two from now. I believe there is a database corruption in the icloud backup storage which is causing the backup storage to increase instead of get smaller. When u delete old backups and backup again the backup should decrease not increase. This problem started in ios 18 on my iphone se 2022

The iOS 18 update has now been completely removed for M4 iPads. It is no longer displayed.

I just received a call and email from Apple to come pickup my replacement iPad pro. I am going to make sure iPad OS 18 is installed on the unit before leaving the store just to be safe.

Let us know if your iPad actually has iOS 18 installed. Officially, there is currently no iOS 18 for the M4 iPad.

yes it was (at least before your late post).

Interesting! Mine isn’t bricked but I noticed that lately it gets sort of stuck on a black screen when I use it plugged in. I did 17.7 and then 18
