True, but if Apple are still using some kind of server grade HD, these can be a lot more expensive. Anything up to about £250 in the UK.

Apple to Western Digital: Can we use this hard drive in a server?

Western Digital: Yes.

Apple: Thanks for the server grade hard drive.

I don't think "server grade" goes farther than that in this case.

Hmm non of the links seem to be working for me. Can't get to the TC or the AE to show up in the store, and all the links provided don't work.

Same design, no new features. Meh!

THIS..

eventhough the pricepoint is nice, im going to wait for the Mac Mini update.. if they can put 3TB on that, i'll buy the mac mini.. anything less than 3TB and i'm going to build my own 3-4 TB media streaming HTPC PC with RAID..

i really just need a mac mini with 3TB/+ or a time capsule running macOS or itunes(probably will never happen)

*waits patiently for the mac mini updates*

edit: NOTICES that all other mac computers pretty much max out at 1TB... i might as well start putting the inventory together to build an HTPC PC right now :(

I'm slightly disappointed in the refresh but its NOT because of the color. Sheesh!

We're all still assuming all they've done is stick a different sized hard disk in there. Until somebody has one in their hands and performs a tear down, we don't know what changes have happened underneath the surface. The last model of Airport Extreme Basestation could do 450Mbps over wifi, I can't believe they've released a new model with no new features, can you?

I think people complaining about the lack of RAID support in a TC are missing the point of the product. It's for simple backup and recovery of your Mac. It's not intended to be the only place you store important files. Its made to easily recover a lost or damaged file, or to recover your entire Mac in case of a drive failure. If the time capsule fails you have your Mac, if the Mac fails you have your time capsule.

If you want more than that, get another product.

I was thinking the same thing. Especially since the Time Capsule 2TB model that doesn't appear to have changed gets a new part number - MC344LL/A versus the new one MD032LL/A. I guess time will tell.

Why is it that you only can stream music with the airport express? I have a really old express...like 6 years and music is breaking up if i stream a youttubeclip at the same time or sometimes just out of the blue. I want to upgrade to fix this problem, but it seems that timecapsule or extrem both cant stream music.... is that true?

Not sure exactly what you mean by streaming. We use a 2-3 year old Airport Express with several hard drives attached to hold video files. Over our gigabyte ethernet, we've never seen any problem playing full HD movie files on the Mini connected to our TV. I can't ever remember seeing any video artifacts show up when watching movies. I don't know about then having a second file being accessed at the same time causing troubles. I'd have to test that. The only problems that are almost guaranteed is to have multiple, multi-gigabyte file copies going. It does seem to like one copy going at a time.

On the site, it says:

Wireless drive sharing.

Time Capsule also works great as a wireless hard drive, whether you have a Mac or a PC. It sets up in a snap, giving you a networked hard drive you can use for storing and sharing all kinds of files. If you’re a MobileMe member using a Mac with Mac OS X Leopard or Snow Leopard, you can even access the files on the drive over the Internet.5

Apple is going to deleted MobileMe.
So it would seem obvious to me that in OSX Lion you also can acces your drive true the cloud?
Am I wright? If you have an Internet connection ofcourse.

Ready to Buy

I was on the fence for a 2 TB before the update. I just couldn't force myself to pay 499.00 for it. Now that the 2 TB has dropped to the old 1 TB pricing I'm sold.
1 TB just wasn't enough, but I wasn't paying 200 dollars for a 2 TB, same as now, I wouldn't pay another 200 dollars for a 3 TB.

Where did you get this archive of Apple's site from like '07?

The secret's in the URL. ;)

I'm talking about the Airport Extreme. In the latest version of the APE page that archive.org has from December 20, 2010 there is no "new" next to the graphic.

However, the text is identical. Wouldn't it be nice if they justified the "new" badge by telling us how they've improved performance/range?

Hi guys, does anyone know if TC has a better wireless range than the Airport Express ?

So cuttIng thru the ****, it looks like it won't host my iTunes. That sucks, with iOS devices cutting the cord, that would mean more iTunes sales to iOS only households.

Since m hopes are dashed, how do. Wirelessl host my iTunes movies for ATV? Can I put my movies folder on a TC and use an alias in the iTunes folder structure? I don't care that I need iTunes running but my hard drive is near full with movies

It's easy to do (but unsupported), just move your iTunes folder to an external drive, then plug it into an extreme. Mount the drive in finder first (important) then fire up iTunes. Works great - and if you're careful you can even share one set of files between multiple computers.

Note that it does NOT work with an alias - you have to move the root of the folder in iTunes preferences, then consolidate your library into the new library to move the files.

But with Apple's new download-everywhere policy, be careful that you don't end up with a bunch of duplicate files if you use multiple computers.

lol Now the website when you click 'buy now' says that the Time Capsule is currently unavailable. This is one of the slowest and worst updates Apple has done on their website

Well the AE upgrade was disappointing. I was looking forward to a next gen upgrade and this isn't it. So if I want to get one from say BB how do I know I have the latest 6 antenna model?? What model number on the box do I look for? Where is that price drop too that was claimed for it?
