Anyone know what they mean by this?

"Works with iPad, iPhone, Apple TV and more.

Time Capsule works with Mac computers, PCs, iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, Apple TV and virtually all 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi wireless devices — all at the same time."

I presume they mean the network aspect works, not that they can backup to a Time Capsule?

*edit* And they still talk about Mobile Me on that page too

ur sayin the neew time capsules are better? it only seems the only thing changed is capacity

Yes. There were mentions of this previously on the front page.

As for the Time Capsule and AirPort Extreme, MICGadget claims that the devices are newly designed with better heat dissipation than previous models. They claim that the new TimeCapsule has a lower TDP and low power consumption hard drive using Apple firmware, while the AirPort Extreme has improved signal strength with six antennas built in. Finally, they echo previous claims that the Time Capsule will serve as a caching system for software updates in Lion and iOS 5.

99% of buyers don't care about "improved heat dissipation", they just care about getting covered by warranty if it breaks. Enthusiasts like us do. They also have six internal antennas, whereas the older ones had three. Again, most people don't care about things being a bit faster. Enthusiasts do.

I agree that stepping up to the top-spec'd TC has always been pricey. Very pricey, in fact.

However, I think that it will be difficult to beat everything that the TC does (nevermind even really find it) in another single device. IMHO, it's really worth paying the premium (at least for the smaller capacity TC) over having a few other devices.

Maybe. Or just use the free router from your ISP that works just as good (and in my case it have to use the modem inside it anyway) and plug in an $80 external hard drive into your laptop once a week.

My 1TB hard drive external only cost me $30. Admittedly I got a great deal and it is a refurb, but.....

it backs up faster too that way.

I'm new to laptops, but I would turn off TM even if I had a TC because I wouldn't want the hourly backups to slow my already slow 5400 rpm hard drive down.

Then what? I have to leave my MBP open and sitting there for backups perhaps making sure it is plugged in if the battery is low for the backup?

I'm charging my MBP all the time anyway so doesn't seem like more work to reach for the external hard drive and connect it up too once in awhile.

I'm not anal about the hourly backups. If I'm really paranoid because I'm working on an important project then there's always saving to an SD card.

I do like that the $300 TC finally has 2TB of storage. Before the $300 option always seemed like not quite enough storage to justify purchasing it. NOw the storage has reached a point where I can say hey this can last me awhile.

The Apple line seems to need an Apple NAS-type solution. I've been looking into NAS and it all sounds so clunky to a non-techie like me. Sure, I'd be willing to pay more for Apple to make it easier.

Was really hoping Apple was cooking up something like this around the Time Capsule/Airport Extreme. If I could just get my music onto something I could stream from. I know there are third party solutions, but the more reliable and easy ones are as much as a Mini, which sounds like it could more than handle it, if I could figure out how to configure.

Okay, I'll quit my moaning and wait to see the new Mini Server...:apple:

First, the router doesn't work as "good." It may work as "well," but I doubt it. Also, routers aren't free where I live, they're 50 € additional.

Just so I understand, you value your data/work enough that you manually back it up to a refurbished $30 1 TB hard-drive or an SD card?

Do you not value your work/time?
