In which universe did Apple "hand " Epic a billion people? Does Apple pay for all Epic's advertising? Does Apple give Epic free top-of-the-list app placement in the store? Does Apple use Epic games in advertising of Apple products to entice people to play the game?

Apart from being the delivery mechanism, just wondering how Apple handed Epic all these customers?
Apple is allowing Epic access to sell their game on the iOS platform in a secure manner. Also, in a manner that keeps up with user privacy. We have seen that not having walled gardens leads to hell. Just look at Android and how malware flourishes via side loading.

Again, you don't have to go to walmart to sell your product to a mom for example. A mom can buy from Target too.
BUT with with iOS you have only ONE option if you want to make a app / game for iphone. For iphone there's only one way or the highway. This is the issue.
With google you can buy from several stores. With iOS there's only appstore.
Nobody gives a crap about fortnite on iOS including epic since they used it to prove a point knowingly that will get banned.

But I can't force Walmart to put a product I sell at Target on their website either. They created the marketplace, they get to decide who is on it. Can Apple start selling in-app items in Fortnite? Can anyone else? Why not?

Or Epic created quality content / game engine so apple can grow in this field.
I can't understand how so many people can't see this is a symbiotic relationship.
Complete lack of understanding how business works and what's going on rofl

I agree! Everyone sees it as Apple doing Epic a big favor. Guess what people? Without apps, the iPhone platform dies. Apple needs developers (and especially great apps) and the developers need a platform.

Like any relationship, it works both ways.

My government takes 65% of what I make and they have a monoply too. Wonder if I could opt out. 😀
You can follow the advice of many pro-Apple people here and MOVE, apparently!

More like: Our very first priority is to ensure we keep getting our 30% cut of everything your customers buy, so make sure you enable that back.

I think it’s pretty clearly both...the two reasons aren’t mutually exclusive.

30% seems too high honestly.

You might be surprised to know the markup that grocery stores, clothing stores, shoes, etc. have on the merchandise they sell. Care to guess if they mark up more, or less than 30%?
Every time you buy a pair of pants at Macy’s that’s marked down on sale for 30%... do you think they are still making money, or losing money?

I don't need them to cross advertise as long as my product is on both stores. Each store can do it within their own market. I don't understand the point.

Fortnite is a game. Why would apple sell anything in there?
Now, can apple make a game and sell it on Epic store? Sure they can and they will be charged 12% (versus apples 30%) for doing so, so again, not following your points.

So you're saying that downloading an app direct from Epic is somehow not safe? But more to the point, Epic just wants to be able to choose who collects the money! Not even about the app. So the app still comes from App Store, but IAP is done through Epic. How is that not as safe as any other e-commerce transaction?

Making money, markup is a way higher then 30%. But that is implying the Apple store is only marking up software 30% to consumers.

What the real contention is that store charges the vendors 30%, not that the store is charging the consumer 30% markup.

The thing is, they can move. Plenty of people move to low income-tax states and or countries to avoid paying high taxes. You invalidated your own argument.

Fortnite is not for sale at all. its free. Apple makes $0 unless someone on an iOS device buys a $9 skin or $14 dance.

Apple incurs everything for a FREE, massive in size and patch App.

For free.

I felt like the judge was way too easy on Epic. They AGREED to the developer account license. This is more than a self inflicted issue. They intentionally set out to destroy the AppStore app then shifted that blame to Apple. That's malice intent. Apple should counter sued them for defamation.

You can move but still own and operate things in that state.
iOS is a one way street.

I have an iPhone and I don't have a single Epic game on it, so apparently, having an iPhone is not the same as being an Epic customer.

But they have access to you. Without the iPhone, how would they distribute games to you via the iPhone? I'm not really sure why this is difficult to understand. Do you think because you don't or haven't bought something on Amazon, or stayed at a specific AirBnB that they haven't curated a user base?

stop it. Apps help Apple sell thousand dollar phones. No apps = very limited hardware sales.

this narrative that Apple is not making off free apps is patently bunkum.
