Anyone think these new iPad models could be a newer design like the iPad Pros? 2nd generation Apple Pencil support maybe?

Given that the 10.2" model is expected to replace the 9.7", it's unlikely to be a new design or support Pencil 2.

So iPad Pro gets two size, 11 and 12.9", Normal iPad gets 10.5" and something to replace iPad mini? 8.9"?

iPadOS is just a marketing name. It’s still iOS.

Well, considering they only currently sell iPad, iPad mini, iPad Air, and iPad Pros (with Face ID, all earlier models have been discontinued), it’s actually not nearly as difficult as you deliberately made it out to be. The 10.5” iPad mentioned by CoinX is the iPad Air.

I wouldn't necessarily say deliberate since you have to factor in the increased MSRP of these devices. People are more likely now to be buying used and refurbished iPads over just the latest, brand-new mini/budget/air/pro. So it is perfectly fair to factor in the models released in the last few years for what works best for their specific workflows and wallets

Assuming the 10.2" is one model that is definitely happening, 2-3 will be wi-fi and cellular variants of that, which leaves 2-3 unaccounted for, perhaps the rumoured OLED 11"?

There are 3 Model for Cellular, US, Global and China. 1 Model for WiFi.

Leaving 1 Unknown.

Edit: So I look it up, if iPad were using Qualcomm Modem, there will only be 1 Model for Cellular, and 1 for WiFi. If it was using Intel modem it would have 3 Model for Cellular.

But the number of model still don't add up.

Since Apple just Axed the Macbook, it would make sense if they axe the iPad as well. And May be introduce an iPad mini with Cellular option ?

I am starting to Apple think just register more models to confuse us :/

Man, like everyone else in the MR forums/trenches I would like to think I am pretty informed on Apple products and services. But for keeping up on the iPad line including the mini 5 at 7.9", budget model at 9.7", iPad Air 3 and 2017 Pro at 10.5", 11" Face ID iPad Pro, 1st and 2nd gen iPad Pro at 12.9", Face ID iPad Pro at 12.9", and now a 10.2" and 10.5" non-pro iPad which is somehow different than the current 10.5" Air... I'm actually having to read over this a couple times out of just sheer confusion. Try imaging a regular customer now trying to go in and by an iPad..
Sheer confusion is expected if you're going to drag in 4 years of iPad models. :p A regular customer is simply going to go to Best Buy, Walmart, or the Apple Store and look at what they actually have.

Apple is currently selling:
iPad Mini 5
iPad 9.7 2018
iPad Air 3
iPad Pro 11
iPad Pro 12.9

Doesn't seem confusing... 2 Pro models, 2 non-Pro, and a Mini (primarily for vertical markets).

If the 10.2 iPad is a reality, it will most likely replace the 9.7 2018.

I expect the Air 3 to be discontinued some time in 2020. (it is nothing more than a way to clear out an excess of 10.5 Pro parts)

I've been saying that the iPad Pros will go to 6GB RAM (not just the 1TB models) this Oct/Nov.

iPads are getting boring with the lack of innovation.
That's because Apple is so far ahead in this category, there really isn't anything to innovate unless we see a large jump in technology. The only thing really holding the iPad back is software at this point.

Smaller bezels, 120hz True Tone display, class leading speakers, laptop level performance, great battery life, etc. What is there really to add?

I’m lost - all these registrations are likely the different cellular, US, China, etc devices for one iPad model? Or do we think there’s literally this many models and the other specs fall into sub-registrations?

On one hand I’m really happy Apple is releasing new or updated products around the year but because the timings tend to change every year, it’s easy to get caught out and you could end up buying a new device only to find an updated product available the week later like with the new MacBook Air and Pro.

An iPad needs at least 4 model numbers.
  • U.S.
  • China
  • Global
  • No-GPS (Wi-Fi only)
Today's news shows 5 model numbers so it's likely just one real model.

What would you add that is useful and not gimmicky ? Software is where ipad is improving
What else do you want them to do?

What would you like them to add for them to be more innovative? Honest question.
Honest answer. I don't know what else there is to add to iPads, but the product line just seems stagnant. I have the 11" iPad Pro and it's good but don't you want a killer feature on it that'll make it great? What features would you like to see on the iPad?

I was considering getting the most recent iPad Pro 12 inch with cellular, considering the prices right now on amazon but decided to maybe wait for the next model and possible 5G being included...anyone know the rough timeline of these filings compared to when they are actually released? Approaching mid July at this point, I am not sure if it is normal for these filings five months out before the new year. Makes me think like the upcoming phone, this device will not have 5G options.

They just keep changing the size over and over so you cannot use the cases of your older models. Every time you buy an ipad you have to include the price for a new case as well, which is so stupid.
