There is no such product. 2019 Air?
Yep. I got it earlier this year but couldn’t recall if it came out before or after the new year.

Sheer confusion is expected if you're going to drag in 4 years of iPad models. :p A regular customer is simply going to go to Best Buy, Walmart, or the Apple Store and look at what they actually have.

Apple is currently selling:
iPad Mini 5
iPad 9.7 2018
iPad Air 3
iPad Pro 11
iPad Pro 12.9

Doesn't seem confusing... 2 Pro models, 2 non-Pro, and a Mini (primarily for vertical markets).

If the 10.2 iPad is a reality, it will most likely replace the 9.7 2018.

I expect the Air 3 to be discontinued some time in 2020. (it is nothing more than a way to clear out an excess of 10.5 Pro parts)

I've been saying that the iPad Pros will go to 6GB RAM (not just the 1TB models) this Oct/Nov.

I've been the go-to person for apple-related purchases for years now with family, friends, and at work. I just had someone ask about a perceived good deal on a 2014 model. There is the whole used market that is economically appealing. YMMV on this

Sure. And those looking to buy a 5 year old iPad are penny wise, pound foolish since it will not be able to update to the latest iOS. In those situations price is a priority and they're not going to be driven so much by the particular features.

But to claim that there is confusion because of the history of options over multiple generations is a bit of a stretch. If people are confused by that, I wonder how they're able to decide on which used vehicle to buy... even if they limit it to one manufacturer and model.

Honest answer. I don't know what else there is to add to iPads, but the product line just seems stagnant. I have the 11" iPad Pro and it's good but don't you want a killer feature on it that'll make it great? What features would you like to see on the iPad?
Boring? the ipad PRO is so far ahead of the competition that its a joke - what it needs is SOFTWARE and we are getting a lot with IOS 13.

That's because Apple is so far ahead in this category, there really isn't anything to innovate unless we see a large jump in technology. The only thing really holding the iPad back is software at this point.

Smaller bezels, 120hz True Tone display, class leading speakers, laptop level performance, great battery life, etc. What is there really to add?
+ a much better Face ID which I thought they were going to milk out and release it in 2-3 more years.

Perhaps you would like an iPad that folds? I think a lot of these platforms have really matured and don't have a ton of innovation left in them. As others mentioned, iPad certainly has room to grow in terms of capability which is mostly a function of software.

Yes, boring. Okay, what software improvements would you like to see on the iPad?

An iPad needs at least 4 model numbers.
 • U.S.
 • China
 • Global
 • No-GPS (Wi-Fi only)
Today's news shows 5 model numbers so it's likely just one real model.

Again that is assuming it use Intel Modem. Previous Qualcomm Modem only has 1 for Cellular.

Still even with the possibilities of Qualcomm the 5 Modem number still don't add up.

Edit: I just remember the odd number of model in 11R / S as well, we don't need another one for China due to TDS-CDMA being discontinued. May be one iPad Pro will use Intel and the other one use Qualcomm? Hence the total of 5 models.

iPads are getting boring with the lack of innovation.
What is your idea of innovation that can wow people then?
No..... Needs to be a screen size smaller than 10.1 inches so I can use MS Word or Excel for free (with an account).

Or... MS needs to remove that arbitrary limit.
You have iPad mini. And you can still buy 9.7” iPad for cheap. A10X is nowhere weak.

That's a possibility, but given the Qualcomm settlement was in mid-April, I think the 10.2" is an Intel socket win.

DRAM is dirt cheap these days so how about giving the upcoming iPad 2019 4GB so it's not gimped? I can understand 2GB on a $100 Amazon Fire HD 10 but for iPad's $329 it should have at least 4GB or more for future proofing (wishful thinking).

Man, like everyone else in the MR forums/trenches I would like to think I am pretty informed on Apple products and services. But for keeping up on the iPad line including the mini 5 at 7.9", budget model at 9.7", iPad Air 3 and 2017 Pro at 10.5", 11" Face ID iPad Pro, 1st and 2nd gen iPad Pro at 12.9", Face ID iPad Pro at 12.9", and now a 10.2" and 10.5" non-pro iPad which is somehow different than the current 10.5" Air... I'm actually having to read over this a couple times out of just sheer confusion. Try imaging a regular customer now trying to go in and by an iPad..
Things change over time, and it’s not as if all those models they are currently for sale. It’s really not that complicated, and for many, the selling price makes their decision for them.

No one’s going to mistake a $399 7.9” Mini for a $999 12.9” Pro and no one’s cross-shopping them (though a customer may buy both).

In the middle are three models that are roughly the same size:

Good: iPad, $329, 9.7”
Better: iPad Air, $499, 10.5”
Best: iPad Pro, $799, 11.0”

According to the rumors, the 9.7” model is being replaced with a 10.2”, but I see that as a good thing, not a problem.

Hopefully the new low end model won't be accompanied by a new price bump. The 2018 model was a good deal when it first came out. I'd guess it'll get the A11 CPU used in the iPhone 8 and a camera upgrade equal to an iPhone 7.

With iPad OS accepting external storage. Now would be a good time to add a microSD card slot. The iPad doesn't have the size constraints of an iPhone. Of course that will never happen. One can always dream.

You're content with the current iPad models?
Yes, I am. Thin bezel and unified front design seems good enough for me. The structure definitely can use more work but taken with care, bending should not be a problem.
