I think this means I can't use DxO generated DNG files in Aperture 3.DNG files must be generated by the Adobe DNG Converter with the Convert to Linear Image option turned off.
You forgot to mention Core 2 Duo (i.e. 64bit-only).Anyone else noticed that Aperture 3 requires an "Intel-based Mac computer"? No support for G4/G5 processors this time.
Note that you'll still have to convert your Lr 2 library to Lr 3.I started out using Aperture 2, but the lack of nondestructive local edits ("Brushes" as Apple is calling it) absolutely killed me, so I switched to LR2, which has always had local nondestructive edits. LR2's interface is clunkier than Aperture, but I needed functionality over ease of use.
Unfortunately for Apple, Aperture 3 is too little too late. I already have a huge library in LR2 and won't be switching over to Aperture. I'll just wait for LR3, which is going to be released very soon.
If you're using Aperture you shouldn't have a need for Faces :-(

Anyone know if the new version is going to be available at retail Apple stores today? I'd rather go buy in person because I can fake that I'm still a college student and get a discount![]()
Yes, they have. Lightroom is a 64-Bit app on OS X -- and this is your point of reference. Aperture and Photoshop are not in the same league, but Aperture and Lightroom are. And since Apple - and nobody else - has no substitute for Photoshop for OS X, you just have to suck up the fact that Photoshop is still a 32-Bit app on the Mac.
A few questions:
1) Does anyone (a beta tester?) know if it has iPhoto-esque effects like Edge Blur, etc. built into it? That is something that Ap 2 has been missing.
2) What about the ability to add text to a photo? Does anyone know if it is available?
I've looked in the new features and can't find anything. Either it doesn't offer these things or they didn't think them worthy enough to include in the promo material.

sigh... It's sad to read this. Only at Apple will new features be implemented in consumer products before the pro-line. A full year even!!
Not to mention that Faces sounds rather pointless to me for Aperture. Hardly something the pro users have been pining for.
Oh well.. atleast it's 64-bit.![]()
I think faces is great... I can't see why a pro WOULDN'T want to have the option. Same with Places. It's an organizational tool, which is paramount when you take a lot of photos.
Anyways, stupid iPhone-user question: does Aperture include any sort of camera control modes? I'm thinking like the Capture NX software from Nikon which lets you plug in a Nikon dSLR and use the computer to control the shutter release, etc.
No **** really? Leave that bunk ass **** to iPhoto.
Some ******* will say that Aperture is better because it has faces.![]()

Having never used Aperture... do those that have foresee a time when apple might position Aperture as a Photoshop option/replacement?
