Having Matched pairs makes a minimal difference. Having more ram is going to be better then having matched pairs....it really depends...are you going to be using a ton of ram? thats only when it is going to make a difference.
Thanx. I'm a heavy RAM user (musician) and am trying to decide if getting a 17" MBP would be a good replacement for my Powermac G5 2ghz DP with 2.5 gig ram. I would intend running eSata striped array for sample based sofware and FW800 drive for audio recording. Would then give me portable option as well as studio based.
Are the FW800 and FW400 all the same bus as b4 or is there now more firewire bandwidth than G4 powerbook.
Any thoughts on the above forum friends??
eSATA > FW800 > USB2.0 > FW400
eSATA is 2400 mbps, FW800 is well 800, usb2.0 is 480 and fw400 is 400mbps
The big criticized thing about firewire was before was the bus bandwidth and how after plugging in more then 1 device really cut down the transfer rate, maybe that has improved now

Yeah but in practice, FW400 > USB 2.0 because firewire has a sustained speed of 400mbps whilst USB 2.0's quoted speed is the fastest burst speed it can handle. USB 2.0 speed also depends on processor activity, do too much on a computer and your USB transfer speed suffers greatly.
The sustained transfer speed is why firewire is the protocol of choice for video transfer and sound production.

My new Sony KDL-32s2010 doesn't have a glossy screen either. Looks fantastic, and it's virtually glare free.
I've really never seen glossy screens outside of notebooks. I'd hate to have one for a desktop!
btw my machine just came today, matte screen...havent even opened the box until tonight, have to many meetings through out the day :-( the box is so light! my FIRST MAC!!!
Congats on your first Mac! My Macbook Pro is still at the friggin dest sort facility. I hope it arrives today.
My status just got updated with:
28 okt 06 32 55 flight departed Apple Shanghai 01 nov 06
Seems they don't like to update the shipping status over the weekend >_<
Hopefully I'll get further notification about its location today.
I got the same update, however this is different from all the people whose laptops have landed in Europe, I wonder why ours are treated differently.

You're the first person on this forum from the UK I've seen get their MBP so far, at least not from an Apple Store.
edit: Just out of interest (you may have mentioned this before) but did your order consist solely of the MBP. I'm wondering if the rest of us are having to wait longer because we're having our MBPs merged in transit with the rest of our order, am I correct in saying yours came all the way with TNT?
Well, mine's still stuck in Shanghai or somewhere between there and Anchorage. We just see tracking notifications when they get scanned to leave a FedEx facility. Doesn't account for how long they sit on the loading dock, on a truck, waiting for a plane, etc... I did notice that FedEx changed my estimated delivery from 11/1 to 11/2 in the last few hours. Hmmmmm...
NO WHINE! & Latch mechanism is symettrical and perfect. Pics to follow...
