Its silent, no dead pixels, quality seems ok but the powerbook G4 looks better built... but this is awesome.

Add me in there, mine arrived at Anchorage at 12:49pm as well...PA/standard shipping/Nov. 2 estimate.

... but I just got it like 30 min ago...After giving it a once over I take that back. It looks great

Glossy or matte? If it's glossy, could we get a pic? Looks like they are using Hitachi for the perp 160 drives. Wonder if they will source Seagate for any of them?

Mine Came Today

I ordered last Tuesday, about one hour after the store came back up with the updated models. I got a 2.33 15", matte, 3gb, 160. And, yeah, I ponied up the extra $15 bucks for 2-day shipping.

Mine shipped from Shanghai on Thursday, four business days earlier than originally estimated. It's status was frozen at "Intl Shipment Release" all weekend. So I was mildly surprised when it came today.

First impressions: this thing rocks! build quality is every bit as good as my 12" PowerBook. I can't wait to get some time to do some serious work on it...

First Mac - Refurb Core Duo or new low end Core 2 Duo?

:) Hey! :)

Decided I'm going to give Mac a go now that my pc laptop is pretty much dead (it had a rough 3-year life though, due to a "on-board flight incident.."). However, I'm on a student budget, but the MacBook won't do it for my use (I'm used to better graphics) so I think I have to invest in a MacBook Pro. I've been looking into getting a Pro for a while, and decided to wait until the Core 2 Duo came out hoping they'd but a better graphics card into the cheapest Pro (which they didn't  ).

Anyway, I can get the Core2Duo 2.16GHz for $1800 w/128mb graphics, the 2.33GHz for $2300 w/256mb graphics.

But a refurbished Macbook Pro 2.16 GHz Core Duo with 256MB graphics card, 1gig ram,100gig HD is $1600.

I don't know much about performance, processors etc and all that, so which one should I get? Core Duo with the better graphics (I play WoW, nice with good graphics then) and cheaper price, or should I settle for the cheapest Core 2 Duo? My previous laptop had a 40gig HD, and it wasn't full since my music was on my iPod.

And in terms of future compatibility with the new OS, any difference processorwise?

Besides playing some WoW, I'll use it for Office Pro software (I'm studying mngt...), create java progs in Eclipse, watch movies, surf and occasionally play around editing some photos.

Any help appreciated, cause I'm stooopid when it comes to comparing computers. Thank you! :)

Really the way to go if you are a student is sign up for ADC( apple developers connection) it cost a 100 dollars to sign up....but the 2000 dollar macbook pro drops to 1600...and the 2500 drops to 2000...you have 20% as opposed to 10% of the normal student

Mine was in Alaska at 12:49 today; estimated delivery is by 12:00 Wednesday Nov. 1. I selected the "free shipping" option.

I live in Washington state, which is closer geographically to Alaska than most of you others; but quite far away politically. :D

According to the Salem NH Apple Store manager. I feel for all of you who ppl who decided to order online. :D :p

I'm at school at WPI, about an hour south of there, and I'll be driving up between now and this weekend to grab a 15inch high end model. Can't wait.

Y'all are going to think I'm making stuff up, now that I'm the only one who's still down for Nov 1st (just checked again). Like I say, I'm guessing that when I wake up tomorrow, my projected delivery date will have slipped like all you guys'.

Anyone else surprised by how little the package weighs? Mine is down as only being 4.5kg... weird. Apple lists the computer alone as 2.54kg... can't believe the power adapter, accessories and packaging are all less than 2kg.

OK, I think I've taken this thread to new depths of obsessiveness. Sorry.

So my new MBP C2D that is arriving is a "low" 15": 2.16 C2D / 2GB.

It's relacing a 17" MBP CD that is also 2.16 Ghz and 2GB RAM (but more vRAM).

Anyone interested in a few benchmarks? I'm only going to have both machines for a day to transfer stuff over (I guess Thursday evening), the 17" is going bye-bye to pay for the new 15". But I think I might have a chance to run a few simple tests, hopefully nothing too elaborate.

I could run a benchmark on processors to comare 2.16 Core Duo vs. 2.16 Core 2 Duo or on video (128 vs 256MB). I guess even the drives (it'd be 120GB 5400 on 17" vs. 160GB 5400 on 15").

If someone had a suggestion on a benchmark that wouldn't require a lot to setup or forever to run I'll try and run it both machines while they are both here.

Or maybe no one cares since we'll all be fixated on the new C2Ds that are all coming that day... :) Or maybe someone has done this already, not sure...

d.
