What is taking apple so long? I ordered mine on Saturday from the UK store online. That was the 28th and its not even due to arrive until the 9th.

Dispatch was set for this Thursday (2nd) but i dont see why its that long when they are in stock and it was a basic build laptop with no changes made.

I could cancel my online order, get a refund, train 4 hours to london and pick up one from in store quicker!

Problem is Apple have already taken my money so that would take about 4 days to get put back in so i might aswell wait

grrrrrr its taking too long!

I just checked my shipment status page on apple's website and I get the following:

Estimated Delivery Date 06 Nov 2006 (Subject to change)
Current Delivery Status In Transit to Customer - Shipment on Schedule 01 Nov 2006

I know it still says EDD is the 6th but I could have sworn that the bold date also used to be the 6th. I certainly don't remember it being the 1st. I don't know if I'm remembering wrong or if this even has any significance. *shrug* Maybe it's the date the status was updated and due to some time difference it appeared as the 1st. Who knows? I sure don't.

It's been like that for me since the weekend, I don't think theres anything that we can read into it though. However if it is Europe now we should be getting many more updates tomorrow and maybe even UPS will receive our stuff.

Dude, where's my C2D MBP?

Ordered 2.33 Ghz, 160 GB, matte screen on 10-25, estimated ship on or before 11-3?

Must have gotten on the slow boat from China...or do orders for higher ed institutions get put on that boat automatically?

Come on Steve, have some love for your friends in academia! ;)

My MBP's route

Keep in mind I live In Utah.

Started in Shanghai, then to Alaska, then crossed OVER Uath and all the way east to Indiana, now it's in Minneapolis...but supposedly i'll receive it tomorrow.

Congrats to everyone who finally received their MBPs!

Woo! I got my new MBP last night! SO EXCITED.

Being the geek that I am, I had to document the unveiling. lol
http://blog.minderupt.com/my-macbook-pro/

Funny story - I had to pick it up from FedEx as I wasn't home when it arrived (I wasn't expecting it until Nov 3!). I stood in line for about 10 minutes - there were about 5-6 people ahead of me ALSO picking up their new Macbooks. LOL all our packages looked the same - and when the lady behind the country brought mine out, she screamed "Yup! Another Mac on its way!"

She said she's been busy all night getting people their MBPs. Looks like the first wave of shipments arrived in the bay area! haha.

This is my first Mac - SO EXCITED. Thanks all for your advice!

Thanks so much for "documenting" it all... I love those kinds of things. :D I thought your FedEx comment was funny because the other day I was thinking, "I wonder if the FedEx guys ever think about how many Apple computers they deliver each day..."

Just ordered, after landing a sale for my 12" PowerBook. :) Hurray! 15", 2.33, 2GB ram, 160GB hard drive, plus an STM alley bag. So stoked.

Haha... What's really funny is when my partner's black MB came, the delivery guy asked me "so, did you get a white one or a black one?" :)

The industry analysts weren't lying when they said that more and more people are switching to Macs from PCs. I think we have quite a mini-revolution on our hands. The good ol' days of M$ I think are nigh.

I was tooling around with my RC2 Vista install. It's really nothing but a souped up XP. Not sure if people will really be RUSHING to the store to upgrade.

M$'s R&D has really faltered, especially in the area of user interaction.

yay.

nice I just picked up a STM alley bag too, where did you get yours from?

Has anyone had one delivered to UK yet? I wouldn't mind an idea of the timeline involved if possible. My 2.16/2gb Ram/120gb HD was shipped yesterday but since then the only thing to be updated is the delivery date, back a day to the 10th. How can a plane from China to England take 12 days?

If I had to guess... The delay is because it had to go through France. You know how those Frenchmen are.. :p

The problem is that it won't be delivered directly to UK but first to the Netherlands and then to UK. Moreover, you have to subtract not-working days, in which it won't be delivered. Then, you must consider delays like cargo full or technical problems (if you read the last few pages, you'll find examples).
Has it been shipped directly with TNT or with K & N?

I'm sorry for you: it seems that this KN is the worst express courier.
I can't understand why some are shipped with TNT and some with KN. I think it's by case.

Ah! Now I feel like an idiot - I've just popped my number in there and things look better:
01 nov 06 32 05 Flight Booked Apple Shanghai
31 okt 06 30 61 Consignment Booking received from supplier Kuehne & Nagel Shanghai
30 okt 06 00 04 Picking confirmed, EDI received Apple Shanghai
30 okt 06 30 63 handover at supplier Apple Shanghai
Does this mean its flying tommorow?

I ordered it along with my MBP, right from the Apple store. I would normally have gone with a booq -- I love my 12" PowerSleeve -- but they're too expensive, especially considering they've moved to more generic sizing. And the convenience of ordering my bag in the same order as my computer speaks for itself.

haha... I love that. I definitely agree. I think more people are switching over to Mac's now than ever.

I'm a switcher. It helps a TON that I can still run Windows on the Mac now. I've adored Mac machines for quite awhile now...but never bought in because of my involuntary need for a Windows based machine. I can still run all the apps I'm familiar with, and learn to use the superior OS X. This is what has finally sold me on buying a Mac...

...however...it'd be nice if they'd finally send my machine. I ordered a base model 15" MacBook Pro...only CTO with a 160GB HDD on the day they were announced (last Tuesday). It has YET to be shipped!!! What's the deal?

Mine was an academic order, and I got it today. :D - a day early, and on the original "will ship by" date.

Hey, to the guys who were debating w/ me about the hard drive - the 160GB drive is the Hitachi!

I didn't bother with the printer, since I already have two laser printers and a photo inkjet. I'm in the same boat, as I have to start looking for a new bag or briefcase for the MPB.

The wait is killing me. This is both my first Mac and my first notebook.

The Mac laptops are outstanding. I'm no longer an evangelist as most everyone that asks me what to buy knows I'll say Mac and when they buy a PC they end up getting a Mac eventually. You'll be very happy with the MBP--all around great computer. My last desktop model was a dual G4 that I had picked up when they first came out. For what I do--graphic design--these new Macbook Pros are a fine replacement for any desktop. I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of CS3 UB.

I too have a color laser and two inkjets, I added the Canon MP 450 to give to my wife and son to use when I hand down the current MBP to them.

well, my laptop is offically on it's way, it might not be physically on it's way, but it's in transit.

Yes, great fun to see pics of the new macs.

Heh, back in the day when I ordered the Pismo a few hours after they were announced I picked it up from the UPS hub as well, they said they were spending the majority of the day handing over Apple laptops. All the same box to nearly everyone in the place.

It was a fun bonding experience. :)
