Excellent news! How long has it taken to arrive from initial ship?

Question about the 15's speakers. It seems to me that the left speaker is slightly more "tinny" sounding than the right speaker. Is this normal or should the 2 speakers sound exactly the same when using the sound system preference to shift the sound to one speaker only? And yes, I have tested this out on multiple songs by multiple groups.

On it's way

Does anyone have an idea how long it's taking Apple to ship MBPs? I ordered a C2D 2.16 2GB 120GB Glossy last Friday. I was wondering when it might be ready to ship. Like everyone else, I can't wait to get my hands on it.

Just checked and the Order Status page shows it shipped today!! Of course it missed the cut off time in China. So, hopefully I'll receive it Friday or next Monday!

Mine got shipped last night

Nov 1, 2006
7:58 PM Picked up SHANGHAI CN Package received after FedEx cutoff
7:58 PM Left origin SHANGHAI CN
6:37 PM Package data transmitted to FedEx

How do I get the estimates arrival date? Thanks

This MBP is amazing... I love it... :D

I still need a few weeks to get the hang of it..

How can I copy/ paste and so many other short cuts that I can't live without. There is also no right click (no properties or the rest) :(

I'll enjoy learning from scratch how to use an OS.

[Edit] It only opens 120 degrees not 135, but who cares. :D

I'm not sure what you're asking about the copy/paste...

As for the right click, you can turn on a two-finger tap as an alternate click. This can be set to be a right click or other function.

Just drag the application icon into your dock. DONE! You'll find that EVERYTHING in OS X is all based on common sense. Eeeep. I didn't intend for that last comment to be insulting...it's just odd how EASY OS X is to use after you've been stuck in Windows world for so long. My fav example is the uninstall process. Drag your app into the trash...that's it! No more going through the install/uninstall process like in Windows!

After a week of waiting, my base model with a 160GB HDD MBP FINALLY shipped this morning! Wheee! My first Mac!

Don't worry and thx... I'll need time to get used to this babe.. I love it.

apple-c

apple-v

You'll find you don't really need to right-click in OSX. But if you do, put 2 fingers on the trackpad and click.

Ctrl + C <-- Copy

Ctrl + V <-- Paste

Ctrl + x <--- Cut

... etc...

That should be "command" + v and "command" + x . The command key is also known as the apple key... it's the one with the, er, Apple on it.

Enjoy.

To learn a few more detailed things one nice method might be going on Amazon (or to any book store or an Apple store) and getting a "Mac Bible" or other OS X book for $30 - I've been using Macs since the 1st one in 1984 and when I take the time to sit down with a book like that for a few minutes I still learn shortcuts and tricks that have evaded me for a long time...

:)

PS - $19: http://www.amazon.com/Mac-OS-X-Bibl...=pd_bbs_1/002-7293447-8816029?ie=UTF8&s=books

Actually, it's command-c for copy command-v for paste and command-x for cut. (the command key is the one with the apple and clover-leaf pattern on it)

If you open a drop-down menu, most of these keyboard shortcuts will be noted (e.g. all of these are on the Edit menu).

You can also hold down modifier keys (ctrl, shift, option, ?) while a drop-down menu is open, and the relevant changes should appear.

Cheers

Congratulations! And welcome to the learning curve! You'll find that OS X is damn close, to Windows, but different enough to require a bit of rethinking.

I suggest that you have officially graduated to the Mac Basics & Help discussion.

You'll be talking to more appropriate parties there.

Thank you all for your help. This thing is getting easier by the minute and with you people around, I don't think I'll be getting any problems.

patrick0brien, I'll add the link to my favorites. You people rock...

buy C2D MBP now, or wait?

Hi. I've been waiting for these core 2 duo to be introduced into the macbook pro's. Now, I can't decide if I should buy one in the next month or so, or wait till Mac World. I guess I'm not as concerned with if Leopard comes out, since I could just upgrade. What is holding me back is the vid card. When do you think it will be upgraded? I'm majoring in Computer Science, but want to get more into photography and video editing on my own. I'd also want to be able to play some games like BF 2142, but not have the macbook pro as my main gaming machine. Would I be okay with the x1600 256, or should I wait till the vid card gets an update? That would be like May I'm guessing?

Well I finally got my 27GB home directory moved over to the new machine, and have been happily playing. This thing sure seems bloody fast compared to my Powerbook (although I never really thought of my Powerbook as "slow").

Today will be the real test though - the apps I have to use most often at work are Dreamweaver and Photoshop; both of which will be running under Rosetta. Wonder how well they'll do?
