FWIW, I now have two MBPs (one CD, one C2D)... Both screens close and line up properly. As others have noted, there is a small gap, about 1mm all the way around, but this is normal.

As for the Might Mouse, I totally agree. It seems we are in the minority around here, but I can't agree more - the MM sucks. The *ONLY* redeeming quality is the scroll-ball, but that nowhere near makes up for the crappy bottom battery cover and the phony two buttons under one shell design. I run my desktops from a Logitech cordless laser desktop for Mac. Awesome setup. I keep a Logitech V270 bluetooth mouse in my notebook bag.
 
Thank you, it's not just me that hates the MM..
It is in my opinion Apples worst current product. (Halway major product that is, that I have tested)
 
It has horrible tracking, the scroll ball goes on the fritz way too often and that includes both the wired and bluetooth version which I both own. I digging this Razer Copperhead mouse!

Anyway, back the the MBP. :D

Should I charge up the battery before I turn it on for the first time? I'm hoping it gets to me tomorrow although it seems more likely it will be next Monday.

I will take pics of the glossy screen. I haven't seen any pictures of a MBP with glossy screen. I know it's not a popular option but it's kinda hard to believe there on no pics of it somewhere on the internet.
 
Worst Delivery Estimate?

Given the current posts I wonder if I have the worst delivery estimate at the moment. My order is a stock 17" MacBook Pro for delivery in Belgium but my Shipping Date is 14th November and an estimated Delivery Date of 27th November. I'm hoping that this information is sooo wrong else I still have over 3-weeks to wait...

EDIT: Actually, I do note this morning that my order status screen appears changed. The dates are still the same but instead of the dates being listed beside each item in the order it now appears as a summary at the top. I have no idea if this is significant or not.

I feel the same way waiting for mine...it shipped yesterday! Ive never wished I lived near Shanghai but now I kind of do...my girlfriend tells me Im acting like a kid at christmas...oh well. :D

Yes, you are later. My order status changed in the same way, but still shows shipping 7th Nov and Delivery 13th. Can't wait!!!!!!!:D
 
The Mighty Mouse isn't too horrible if you get used to it. I like the 360 scroller. It just takes too long to get used to the right click...and I wouldn't have been willing to put up with it if I'd had a choice of using a different mouse. But I was using someone else's computer. Also, I hate how the second button is turned off by default. It's hard to believe Apple has been so stubborn about this for so long. On the other hand, I like the two finger click on the new laptops better than a split button...because I like having a nice wide button, because I use the button for all my clicking. I don't like finger-tap clicks, because they're too unpredictable. Also those new flywheel mice seem like a much better idea than the mighty mouse 360 ball. But anyway, where's my MacBook? It's thousands of miles away. Like my girlfriend. :(

My 17" is to be shipped on the 8th for a 15th delivery, initially thought that this was just a conservative estimate on apples part, and they would do it sooner, however i recon now it’s going to be around the 15th!;) ;)

Maybe it would help if I just bribed someone.

At the moment it loooks like I'm just going to be unlucky. I'm going to be going back to the UK on Monday for a business meeting close to an Apple Store so picking up a laptop from the store would be possible. Unfortunately, based on the information available, it looks like the Store won't receive 17" models until much later next week at least so I'll have to wait for the Online Store to complete the order instead and hope that the dates provided are bogus.

Why 3GB memory limitation on new C2D MBP?

Does anybody know why there's a 3GB memory limit on the new MBPs? If one put a 2GB chip both slots, would it not work? Or is this Apple trying to capture more of the memory upgrade market?

There have been endless explanations of this in this and other threads. Max seems to be 3.2, so adding 4 GB only cost you money. Just try to find the relevant posts:D

I believe it is a limitation of the Intel's refreshed Napa chipset used in the new Merom-based laptops (as noted by appie57, the limit is 3.2GB). Physically you can add more memory beyond 3GB but it'd be a waste. I believe that the new Santa Rosa chipset scheduled for release next year will raise this limit but for the moment 3GB is as good as it gets, which is fine for me.

I was making fun of everyone who was checking the status of their shipping every 5 minutes. Once mine shipped, I found myself doing the exact same thing. As luck would have it, mine arrived at the Baltimore sorting facility today at 6:45am. This probably means it won't be delivered until Monday so I miss the whole weekend. It stinks since I live 5 minutes from the stupid airport.

This thing is amazing and thankfully appears to suffer from non of the problems discussed on these forums. OK, so the lid is perhaps a millimetre higher on the right (compared to the left) when closed but you'd be insane to have to complain about that. I only noticed because I inspected it really close after reading about other people with closed lid problems. Right now I'm conditioning the battery and then I'll go reinstall the OS (just for the fun and experience of it really). In the mean time I have a copy of David Pogue's Missing Manual Tiger Edition and I'm getting myself aquainted.

edit: Oh and one more thing. The matte screen is just as bright and vibrant as I remembered it in store, I'm so glad I didn't go glossy (each to their own).
 
Mbp C2d Hard Disk 111 Instead Of 120????

hello america :) iam a new italian user of mac. For my switch i have choosen the new c2d 15" (standard).

I have checked the properties and i can't understand why mac os tells me that the total space of the disk is 111,41 gb (instead of 120gb), so i tryed with whatdisk and other programs and it was always the same!!!

moreover the So takes 18GB!!!!! so i have only 93gb...

Do you think it is normal? What about your hard drive?

kwijyboo- Welcome. Yes, that's normal.

I ordered a MPB c2d on Monday from MacMall and got it yesterday. Very nice. I got Parellel & XP installed. So far so good. Keys are all centered and front latch and corners are perfectly even.
