By my reckoning the first of the 17 inchers should start shipping today (6 November) or tomorrow. Here's hoping.

I hope so. Mine is reporting a 11/7 ship and a 11/15 receive. Judging by reports here, I really hope it takes less time than that.

I was told yesterday by undisclosable sources (LOL) that CompUSA has quite a few 17" MBP C2Ds in their warehouse waiting for the go ahead to release for sales

:D

This has happened to me on multiple occasions with both FedEx and UPS. I've never actually had them forge a signature, but I've had them just leave signature required packages. Or I've had them sign off on it with their driver # or something.

I've been surprised at the number of packages I've not had to sign for from FedEx, DHL and UPS, which contained valuable packages! But none of them were from Apple - I've always had to sign for theirs. Which is good! (I just think that Apple should remove the "signature waiver" link from their "order status" page, since it won't be honored!)

Why would they be holding them?

They are holding them for $2799.00 ransom ... :D

Actually ... I don't know, but suspect it has to do with "resellers" contracts about selling a product that the company might not be shipping yet.

And actually I am not sure that is what he meant, but it sure sounded like that.

Can someone with a Hitachi HTS541612J9SA00 120 GB hard drive let me know if their's is giving off a "Geiger counter" sound?

This is actually my second C2D MBP (the first one had a Fujitsu drive) and this one makes much more noise (but it would probably be normal volume level non-Apple machines) when accessing data.

That was the first thing I noticed when turning the new machine on. Much more noticeable than the sound from my old PowerBook's Fujitsu drive - never really heard the drive there.

Well, nothing shipping for the 17" today. Here's to hoping that we get that shipping notice tomorrow! Maybe Monday will be good for something at least!

I ordered my MBP last Friday. This will be my first mac. I am very excited.

I want to thank all MR Forums posters for their imput. The discussions are very usefull for a Mac newB.

Cheers

Peter

Ah, the change isn't in the dates but in the fact that the dates are now certain, not estimated? If so, that's nice! My dates are still estimated to 7th and 15th as they have been since I ordered the 24th. (MBPRO 17/2.33/2G/160/256VRAM/SD-DL-NOB)

Hmmmm.....interesting. My details have always stated 'Ships by 07 Nov' and 'Delivered by 14 Nov' since I ordered on the 24th.

Who'll be the first to post a 'Shipped' notification for the 17"? I reckon it's about 18 hours away for me - tomorrow, around 3pm in Western Australia.

Mine gives me "Estimated Shipping: 14 Nov, 2006" and "Estimated Delivery: 27 Nov, 2006". A definite date would be much more comforting...

Apple Store Here I Come - 17"

I'm 1st on the waiting list at my local Apple Store for the 17" MBP!

Here's hoping they release them for retail sale the same day you guys are scheduled to have yours ship (Nov. 7) !!! :p

Thank god I passed on the Pb G4 1.67 when it first came out, knowing it was old technology at the time, and not worth the money. I waited and waited and waited as the Pb G5 never materialized, and then waited some more for the true Core processors with Microarchitecture and 64bit.

Cheers to everyone who waited like me. Our time has come!

I'll let you know when I get my call from the Apple Store!!! :D

Mine's on the truck for delivery! Woo hoo! My first Mac will be in my hands in mere minutes!

Just the base 15" model with only CTO being the 160GB HDD (for those who'd like to know): On FedEx vehicle for delivery, CALGARY, AB.

YEAH!!!

I just called the manager and had him move me up to the top of the list :D :p

Seriously, after the recent reports of problems with the uneven back-lighting in the 15" model, I'm considering having them move my name down a few spots. I wanna know if people report the same issue with the 17" display before I plunk my money down. So go right ahead -- be my guinea pig ;)

Mine has not changed today:mad:
Expected shipping Nov 7th
Expected Delivery Nov 13th

I had hoped it would change today, but no.....

I just noticed mine says:

Ships by: Nov 08
Delivers by: Nov 14

Unfortunately this thread is what brought it to my attention so I have no idea when it changed.

Frustrated with New MacBook Pro Core 2!!

Well, I have had my MacBook Pro Core 2 for almost a week now and have to say I am a bit disappointed and frustrated. To top the list, the fan runs constantly and at full blast on the computer from the moment you start it up til the moment you shut it down. Called Apple and was hoping for a firmware update to fix the problem. But, nope. They ran through all of the possible fixes and now tell me I will have to ship it back to them and they will send another one out and I should have it back in a week.
Other quircks I notice on a very clean install. Mail.app sometimes will just give me the beachball for up to 20 seconds before it starts responding again. IChat also takes forever to load with the same issue. My Powerbook 1.5Ghz never had these problems. There are other Apple programs that seem to pause for periods of time before they work. After that they seem to be happy.
But, I just have to say that I am a bit frustrated with spending so much $ and have these issues right off the bat. I was expecting some huge speed improvements, and have seen a few, but many more quircks than I was expecting.
To be fair, I LOVE being able to run Windows when I need it in a virtual window (instead of a dedicated laptop) and iPhoto loads much quicker as well.

Ladies and Gents

I have done it, ordered a brand, spanking new Macbook Pro 15" 2.33 Ghz C2D with 2 GB RAM and a 120 GB Harddrive... Glossy!

Not that anyone should particularly care, but this ADC student discount gig is pretty spectacular. I paid $100 to join, and I go this computer at $2007+ $164 tax... that puts the grand total at about $30 shy of $2300. Compare that to $2700+ plus had I not.
Plus from the buzz I hear, I get a free copy of Leopard (when released) from my ADC student membership. So as far as I'm concerned, I got this ADC membership for free, because I would have most certainly paid to upograde Tiger at the aforementioned time.

On the note, I'd like to say I'm wholely expecting Mr. Jobs to release Leoard at Macworld SF, January 2007. That sort of sneaky, intentional announcement of a later ship date than planned would make so much sense for the company. Not only will investors be throwing panties on the stage of Macworld, but it surely upstages the release of Vista, that month. From the negative campaigning against Microsoft over the years, showmanship appears to be a big deal for the company. In any regard, I'm excited!

Well, no firmware is going to fix your fan problem. You've got a bad system, Either a temperature sensor is not working properly or you have improperly seated heatsinks, etc... Get it replaced. And it looks like you've already started to do that.

I would also attribute some of your other quirks to the same temperature issues.

Isn't it November 7th in China now?!?! Ship my **** dudes! Eff you Apple for not inventing teleportation so that my 17in gets here quicker!
